China has proposed the notion of sustainable development in the framework of a hazardous society in response to global environmental challenges. Research on regulatory concerns is critical for ensuring the application of the concept of sustainable development in the building industry. China’s regulation, on the other hand, suffers from a lack of supply and an ambiguous value orientation. The former is a symptom of the current regulatory structure, whereas the latter is the root of the problem. To overcome the value-oriented dilemma, some studies plan to conduct research using the logic of the norm. This has the disadvantage of having a limited field of vision. The interaction between man and nature should be considered while examining value orientation. When anthropocentrism, ecocentrism, and anthropocentrism in ecology are compared to the environmental legislation in my nation, it is clear that anthropocentrism in ecology is the value orientation that should be followed at the moment. Three challenges that require attention are presented based on this value orientation, as well as the uniqueness of the construction industry and risk society theory.

Constructions in Dong inhabit houses respond to the cosmopolitan ecological thought “Man and nature live in harmony” with landscape of simplicity, nature and unity of heaven and humanity. It is not only Chinese nation’s cultural treasure but also a distinguished one in the art of architectural world which forms going through long-term choice and elimination of nature and human society and includes many reasonable ecological construction experience. This paper summarizes its ecological construction experience by researching traditional houses of Dong inhabit villages in Sanjiang, Guangxi to provide guidance for local architectural creation and sustainable development of villages.

The construction sector exerts an exceptional impact on economic development all over the world. Adequate buildings and infrastructures made by the construction sector ensure that a country reaches certain targets like social development, industrialization, freight transportation, sustainable development, and urbanization. This study aims to determine the construction sector’s connectivity with other sectors through complex linkages that contribute immensely to the economy and gross domestic product (GDP). The data were collected from the Department of Statistics Malaysia and the World Bank from the year 1970 to 2019, and the Pearson correlation test, the cointegration test, and the Granger causality test were conducted. The vector error correction model (VECM) was created for short-term and long-term equilibrium analysis and impulse response function (IRF) was performed to study construction industry behavior. Afterwards, the forecasting was done for the year 2020 to 2050 of the Malaysian economy and GDP for the required sectors. It was revealed that some sectors, such as agriculture and services, have forward linkages while other sectors, such as manufacturing and mining, are independent of construction sector causality, which signifies the behavior of the contributing sectors when a recession occurs, hence generating significant revenue. The Malaysian economy is moving towards sustainable production with more emphasis on the construction sector. The outcome can be used as a benchmark by other countries to achieve sustainable development. The significance of this study is its usefulness for experts all over the world in terms of allocating resources to make the construction sector a sustainable sector after receiving a shock. A sustainable conceptual framework has been suggested for global application that shows the factors involved in the growth of the construction industry to ensure its sustainable development with time.

Resumo: O presente estudo teve por escopo analisar em que medida os mecanismos de tutela internacional da Propriedade Intelectual podem tornar-se um óbice ao desenvolvimento sustentável. No primeiro momento elucidou-se a questão do desenvolvimento sustável e a disparidade entre países do Norte e Sul no atendimento à necessidade de progresso tecnológico sustentável. Posteriormente, o sistema de resguardo à Propriedade Intelectual no âmbito internacional. Utilizou-se o método de abordagem dedutivo e da pesquisa bibliográfica auferindo que, diante da necessidade de harmonizar-se as demandas de desenvolvimento social e ambiental, o momento é de necessidade de abertura legislativa e cooperação mútua. Abstract: The present study aimed to analyze the extent to which the mechanisms of international protection of Intellectual Property can become an obstacle to sustainable development. In the first moment the issue of sustainable development and the disparity between North and South countries in meeting the need for sustainable technological progress was elucidated. Subsequently, the system of protection to Intellectual Property in the international scope. The method of deductive approach and bibliographical research was used, given the need to harmonize the demands of social and environmental development, the moment is the need for legislative opening and mutual cooperation. 


The relevance of the study is due to the fact that the economic development of civilization in the 21st century is accompanied by numerous environmental and social challenges that scientists around the world are constantly working on. Technogenic and natural disasters that occur on the planet are associated with climate change, which in turn, a significant number of researchers and world leaders believe is a consequence of economic activity. The subject of research of the article is the concept of sustainable development, which actually includes these three aspects: economic, social and environmental.. The goal is the evolution of the concepts of nature use in the context of global environmental challenges and their practical use in countries around the world. The objective is to research the concept of sustainable ecologically balanced development of the national economy. General scientific methods are used, such as system analysis. The following results were obtained: the transition to sustainable development has led to the emergence of numerous concepts of its implementation in the area of addressing sustainable use of natural resources. The theoretical substantiation of such in terms of the laws of thermodynamics is simply impossible, as well as the invention of "perpetual motion". However, the use of inexhaustible energy sources (such as thermonuclear, solar, geothermal, tidal, etc.) and renewable biological resources (transgenic, cloning, etc.) allows us to talk about the possibility of theoretical justification for sustainable ecologically balanced development. At the same time, relative, since this nature use is possible only within use) of the limits of balance in profit and expenditure (reproduction natural resources). Conclusions: implementation of sustainable development is possible only in the form of sustainable eco-balanced development based on rapidly renewable biological resources and the use of practically inexhaustible energy sources, as well as the use of high technologies. Such development can provide a solution to economic, social and environmental problems with the preservation of the natural complex.

The current model for society’s development, based on the unconscious use of natural resources, points to signs of exhaustion, requiring a reflection in order to formulate strategies that overcome the challenge of coexistence between the relationship between man and nature. The use of tools such as sustainable indicators has been shown to be effective in the identification and understanding of socio-environmental phenomena and in the subsequent decision making by public management, assisting in the resolution of problems, and consequently, acting as a resource for sustainable development. This study aims to propose the development of an urban sustainability indicator for the municipality of Umuarama, in the state of Paraná, Brazil. In order to build the indicator, data from different aspects linked to Sach’s sustainability model are to be collected, and later put into statistical treatment to standardize it and make its comparison possible, resulting in its index, which is expected to analyze the current state of the local sustainability and sustainable development.

RESUMENEn este artículo se presentan resultados obtenidos en distintas propiedades relacionadas con la durabilidad y características resistentes de morteros de cemento parcialmente sustituidos con diferentes residuos agrícola e industriales que presentan actividad puzolánica: ceniza de lodo de depuradora (CLD), ceniza volante (CV), residuo de catalizador de craqueo catalítico (FCC), ceniza de cascara de arroz (CCA), reforzados con acero. Los resultados presentados demuestran que es posible un desarrollo sostenible de la industria de la construcción. Esto puede conseguirse mediante la reducción del contenido de clinker en los cementos y reutilizando subproductos industriales y agrícolas con un adecuado nivel de durabilidad de los materiales de construcción elaborados a partir de ellos.Palabras claves: durabilidad; sostenibilidad; subproductos industriales; subproductos agrícolasABSTRACTThis paper presents the results obtained in the evaluation of a series of properties related to durability and strength of steel reinforced cement mortars partially substituted with different agricultural and industrial residues presenting pozzolanic activity: sewage sludge ash (SSA), fly ash (FA), spent catalytic cracking catalyst (FCC) and rice husk ash (RHA). These results show that it is possible to achieve a sustainable development in the construction industry. This can be obtained by reducing the clinker content in cement and reusing industrial and agricultural byproducts with an appropriate level of durability of the construction materials fabricated from them.Key words: durability; sustainability; industrial byproduct; agricultural byproduct

The focus of research has mainly been on the life cycle approach to project development, while limited attention has been given to the ageing construction companies that make all these activities/processes happen. This paper examines the organisational factors determining the sustainability and growth of building and civil engineering contractors in South Africa. The paper explores whether there are specific organisational factors that aid the sustainable development and growth of contractors in the South African construction industry. The paper analyses data gathered from face-to-face interviews conducted with four established and twelve upgraded and successful building and civil engineering contractors listed on the Construction Industry Development Board’s (cidb) Register of Contractors. The aim of the study is to identify the organisational factors critical for sustainable contractor development and growth in South Africa. The study found that organizational factors responsible for the sustainable development and growth of construction contractors include the size of the founding team members, management capabilities, strategic decisions made by founders/leaders and the ability of the company to constantly evolve, adapt and respond effectively to threats/challenges whenever they surface, amongst other findings. Capacity to generalise the results of the study to the large cidb registered contractor group is limited by the smallness of the sample size. Future research should make use of a larger sample size to obtain more general findings. The results of the study imply that the founding team size, experience, entrepreneurial and managerial capabilities, capacities and organisational structures that enable the efficient response of companies to external and internal challenges are key components of the definable arrangements that will support the sustainability and growth of construction organisations. The paper is of value to government departments and agencies such as the cidb and contracting firms in the construction industry.
