This article reports on the results of a R &D study on standard evaluation instruments used to measure students’ higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) in Indonesian Language textbooks for the tenth-grade students registered in the academic year of 2019/2020. A qualitative approach to data collection and data analysis was employed. The identification of the research object was carried out by coding various data about the diversity of standard evaluation instruments of HOTS by examining the operational words used and the form of competency measured. The data were analyzed with regard to the level of tendency towards the measurement of certain aspects of thinking. Based on the findings of the research, it can be seen that HOTS contained in Indonesian textbooks class X are already diverse; however, the percentage of diversity is not yet proportional. The aspects include creative thinking (28.3%), critical thinking (37.2%), problem solving (18.6%), and decision making (15.9%) of all evaluation instruments analyzed. A less proportional percentage of each of these aspects shows that the utilization of HOTS standard evaluation instrument development criteria has not been maximally pursued.

The implementation of physics learning still does not involve students' thinking processes. It is very important to practice higher-order thinking skills, one of which is creative thinking. One of the mandated learning models in the 2013 Curriculum is inquiry. This study aimed to analyze the effect of dynamic electric puzzle science tool-assisted inquiry learning on students' creative thinking skills compared to conventional learning. This study used a quasi-experiment research type with a control group pretest-posttest design. This study was done in class XII. The sampling technique was purposive sampling, with XII IPA Al-Qalam as the experimented class and XII IPA Al-Furqan as the controlled class in the academic year of 2020/2021. Data collection was done by creative thinking skills instrument test, which consisted of 5 essay questions. Data were analyzed by using SPSS 25.0 for windows on normality, homogeneity, and N-gain test. Learning outcomes data of both classes were normally distributed and homogenous. Based on the result, the average score of the pretest and posttest of the controlled class were 39.2 and 70.7, while the average scores of the pretest and posttest of the experimented class were 49.0 and 80.2. Data analysis was done by using t test, and it resulted that tcount was 2.439, while ttable was 2.009 or tcount > ttable  and the significance was (0.01) < 0.05 meant that there was a significant effect of the inquiry model towards students' creative thinking skills if compared to conventional learning. The improvement of creative thinking skills in experimented class gained <g> score of 0.64, whereas the controlled class gained <g> score of 0.51. Inquiry learning assisted by dynamic electric puzzle science tools can increase students' opportunities to engage in inquiry-based activities and develop students' analytical and creative thinking skills.

Higher order thinking skills are essential for student future. The 2013 Curriculum demands the existence of an evaluation instrument to train student higher order thinking, not only the thinking skill in the lower cognitive domain, but also in a higher domain. One of the efforts to enhance higher order thinking skills is to engage students with the questions integrated by cognitive C4-C6. This study analysed aspects of  higher order thinking in an evaluation instrument. This study used descriptive method by collecting evaluation instrument data used by teachers to evaluate a learning process. Evaluation instruments used by teachers at schools are still in the C1-C3 cognitive level (C1 47%, C2 47%, and C3 6%), the evaluation instruments are not eligible according to the standard applied. The skills demanded by the Fundamental Competency of the 2013 Curriculum. Higher order thinking skills of students are still relatively low, with the percentage mean of 52.03%. The low cognitive level obtained in the evaluation instrument used by the teachers is the reason of the low thinking level of the students.

Outcomes-Based Education (OBE) brought about a significant paradigm shift in the education and training of learners in South Africa. OBE requires a shift from focusing on the teacher input (instruction offerings or syllabuses expressed in terms of content), to focusing on learner outcomes. OBE is moving away from ‘transmission’ models to constructivistic, learner-centered models that put emphasis on learning as an active process (Nieburh, 1996:30). Teachers act as facilitators and mediators of learning (Norms and Standards, Government Gazette vol 415, no 20844 of 2000). Facilitators are responsible to create the environment that is conducive for learners to construct their own knowledge, skills and values through interaction (Peters, 2000). The first critical cross-field outcome accepted by the South African Qualification Framework (SAQA) is that learners should be able to identify and solve problems by using critical and creative thinking skills. This paper seeks to explore some higher order thinking skills competencies required by OBE from learners such as critical thinking, reflective thinking, creative thinking, dialogic / dialectic thinking, decision making, problem solving and emotional intelligence and their implications in facilitating teaching and learning from the theoretical perspective. The philosophical underpinning of these higher order thinking skills is described to give direction to the study. It is recommended that a study focusing on the assessment of these intellectual concepts be made. The study may be qualitative, quantitative or mixed methods in nature (Creswell 2005).

Learning Arabic is more dominant as a skill than a Science. The learners’ goals are able to use Arabic both spoken and written well and correctly. While HOTS is more dominant in requiring learners to think integrally. Therefore, it is important to consider the extent to which the Ministerial Regulation accommodates HOTS through a study of the basic competence of Arabic contained in it. This study is a literature review of the basic competence of Arabic in the Decree of the Minister of Religion (KMA) number 183 in 2019 in HOTS perspective. The object of this study is the basic competence of Arabic in KMA 183 in 2019. The result shows the basic competence of Arabic in KMA 183 in 2019 to accommodate the ability in higher order thinking such as problem solving, critical thinking, and reasoning. While the Basic Competence in KMA didn’t achieve creative thinking and decision making.

This study aims to determine the implementation of learning by applying the Student Facilitator And Explaining (SFAE) model and the improvement of students' creative thinking skills on the topic of harmonic vibration. The method used in this study is pre-experimental with one-group pretest-posttest design. The samples of this study were students of class X MIA 4 SMA Karya Pembangunan I Ciaparay with a total of 30 students. The sample was chosen by random sampling technique. The field observation sheet instrument was used to observe the implementation of the SFAE model. An essay type test was given in order to measure students' creative thinking skills. This study discovers that the average implementation score of teacher’s activity was 83% which belongs to the good category and the students’ activity was 79% which belongs to the good category. The Improvement of students’ creative thinking skills based on normalized gain was 0.56 which belongs to the medium category. Hypothesis testing used was paired sample t-test with the results of t-count (36.06)> t-table (2.052). This result means that the SFAE model can be used as an alternative for improving students' creative thinking skills for the topic of harmonic vibration. Thus, implementation of the SFAE model can improve students' higher order thinking skills. The SFAE model can also be implemented for learning on other physics topics at various levels of education
