<p>This paper describes the key elements from early planning to completion of a new bridge over the River Barrow which is part of the New Ross bypass in the south of Ireland. The structure has a total length of 887m, with a span arrangement of 36-45-95-230-230-95-70-50-36m. The two central twin spans are the longest of its kind in the world (extrados with a full concrete deck). The bridge carries a dual carriageway with a cable arrangement consisting of a single plane of cables located in the central axis of the deck. The design and construction focused in providing a structure with long term durability, resilience, and a robust approach to design scenarios using the Eurocodes and state of the art analysis techniques, including extreme events such as fire and ship impact<i>.</i></p>

"Internet of things (IoT) domain targets human with smart resolutions through the connection of “M2M” in all over the world, effectively. It was difficult to ignore domain importance field of IoT with the new deployment of applications such as smartphone in recent days. The most important layer in architecture of IoT is network layer, because of various systems (perform of cloud computing, switching, hub, gateway, so on), different technologies of connection (Long-Term Evolution (LTE), WIFI, Bluetooth, etc.) gathered in layer. Network layers should transfer the information from or to various applications/objects, via gateways/interfaces between networks that are heterogeneous, therefore utilizing different connection technologies, protocols. Recent work highlighted IoT technologies state-of-the-art utilized in architectures of IoT, some variations among them in addition to the applications of them in life."

The objective of this study was to identify and quantify design and construction features most important to joint faulting of joint plain concrete pavements. With data obtained from the Long-Term Pavement Performance (LTPP) database, an analysis approach that combined pavement engineering expertise and modern data analysis techniques was to develop guidelines for improved design and construction of Portland cement concrete (PCC) pavement. The approach included typical preliminary analyses, but emphasis was placed on using a series of multivariate data analysis techniques. Discriminant analysis was used to develop models that classify individual pavement into performance groups developed by cluster analysis, which was used to partition the pavements into three distinct groups representing good, normal, and poor performance. These models can be used to classify and evaluate additional or new pavements performance throughout the pavement's design life. To quantify the levels of the key design and construction features that contribute to performance, the classification and regression tree procedure was used to develop tree-based models for performance measure. The analysis approach described was used to develop the guideline on the key design and construction features that can be used by designers to decrease joint faulting of jointed plain concrete pavements (JPCPs).Key words: faulting, Long-Term Pavement Performance (LTPP), jointed plain concrete pavement (JPCP), cluster analysis, discriminant analysis, classification and regression tree (CART) analysis.

The technology for incrementally launched structures has been known for several decades. It had not been utilized in South Australia until a recent flurry of activity revealed that this method could be economically utilized for both small and large structures. Within 3 years, four structures of various sizes were constructed using the technique. A double-T prestressed concrete recreational jetty was incrementally launched at one of Adelaide’s suburban beaches (Brighton Jetty). Twin single-cell prestressed concrete (PSC) box girders were incrementally launched over eight lanes of traffic at a busy signalized suburban road intersection without disruption to traffic (bridge over Port Wakefield Road). Two incrementally launched major bridges were constructed over the River Murray, Australia’s longest river. The first structure consisted of steel girders composite with a reinforced concrete deck (Berri Bridge, 330 m long), and the other structure was a single PSC box girder (Blanchetown Bridge, 410 m long). All these structures are mentioned, but the focus is on the PSC box girder structures. Construction problems associated with the use of permanent bearings as launch bearings and the sensitivity of box girders to construction tolerances are discussed, and the lessons to be learned are presented. Finally, an unsuccessful attempt to monitor the long-term prestress of the Blanchetown Bridge using state-of-the-art optical fiber technology is discussed, including the reasons for its failure and possible improved future methodology.

Abstract Global health is a multifaceted concept that entails the standardization of procedures in healthcare domains in accordance with a doctrine agreed upon by experts. This essay focus on the creation of health demonstration areas by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to establish core nodes for integrated state-of-the-art health services. It explores the origins, theoretical basis and aims of this technique and reviews several European experiences during the first 20 years of the WHO. Particular attention is paid to the historical importance of technical cooperative activities carried out by the WHO in regard to the implementation of health services, a long-term strategic move that contributed to the thematic upsurge of primary health care in the late 1970s.

The steel roof of main palaestra of the World University Games is a long span space structure of single-layer fold face reticulated shells. The space positioning installation of members of this structure is very difficult, and the control accuracy is very high. In order to improving the installation accuracy of this space structure during the construction, a method named bulk-way assembly technology at high altitude with multi-points supporting had been adopted. After the closure of the steel roof structure the temporary supporting jigs began to be uploaded. During this process the supporting jigs quit work gradually and the main structure began to carry the load. Different uploading way will make different influence for the main structure and supporting jigs during the uploading process. These have to be considered in the structural design and construction stage. This article adopts construction mechanics and FEA method to analyze the uploading procedures according to the real construction process in order to finding the actual internal force and deformation and ensuring the security of the structure and supporting jigs. Lots of results have been obtained as guidelines in theory for the design and construction.

Predominant analyses of energy offer insufficient theoretical and political-economic insight into the persistence of coal and other fossil fuels. The dominant narrative of coal powering the Industrial Revolution, and Great Britain's world dominance in the nineteenth century giving way to a U.S.- and oil-dominated twentieth century, is marred by teleological assumptions. The key assumption that a complete energy “transition” will occur leads some to conceive of a renewable-energy-dominated twenty-first century led by China. After critiquing the teleological assumptions of modernization, ecological modernization, energetics, and even world-systems analysis of energy “transition,” this paper offers a world-systems perspective on the “raw” materialism of coal. Examining the material characteristics of coal and the unequal structure of the world-economy, the paper uses long-term data from governmental and private sources to reveal the lack of transition as new sources of energy are added. The increases in coal consumption in China and India as they have ascended in the capitalist world-economy have more than offset the leveling-off and decline in some core nations. A true global peak and decline (let alone full substitution) in energy generally and coal specifically has never happened. The future need not repeat the past, but technical, policy, and movement approaches will not get far without addressing the structural imperatives of capitalist growth and the uneven power structures and processes of long-term change of the world-system.
