Abstract At a time of successively implemented educational reforms on the level of early-school education, presently concerning the youngest generation of Poles, there is an exquisitely topical question about the school maturity of the contemporary child. Hence, an attempt to turn attention to proper preparing the child for taking the compulsory education is a priority objective of the present article. The attention should be also turned to the essential role in this implementation process for the system and methodological education which is a basic education environment - a family. Authors, having exploited the expository method as fundamental form of the realization of the established purpose, made an attempt to depict not only a substantial role of the early-school education (by stressing the appropriate intellectual, emotional and social development of the child), but also to define school maturity indicators and determinants. It was also underlined, that the appropriate assessment of the child’s school maturity constituted the essential determinant of his proper functioning in the school environment. Additionally, an attempt was made to depict the model of the mature child ready for the early-school education through indicating factors which determine acceptable readiness. A return to the current issues of imposing compulsory education on 6-year-old children was also made.

The level of competence in mathematics among Polish students is insufficient, as illustrated for instance by low final examination scores in lower and upper secondary schools. Thus, it is only natural to ask questions about whether mathematics is being taught appropriately and whether adequate strategies, methods, and educational principles are being used. In this context it is necessary to ask future teachers – sophomores majoring in preschool and early school education – if they feel prepared and ready to introduce small children to the realm of mathematics. Most future practitioners of this challenging profession dislike mathematics and consider their current professional competences to be average. When assessing students’ preparedness, in both substantive and methodological terms, the author found that reluctance towards mathematics and belief that mathematics is an exceptionally difficult subject are both transferrable. On a more optimistic note, the analyzed group of students are ready to further improve their professional skills through lifelong learning.

The article examines the role of image for training future teachers-choreographers at the Institute of Culture and Arts. The modern period of Russian development has indicated the necessity of updating the key priorities in the system of professional training, including the sphere of culture and art. Hence, the professional image as an important qualification of any teacher becomes not only a significant but also marketable professional skill that can greatly increase the pedagogical effectiveness. At the same time, developing a professional image is a long and difficult process and it is the product of self-knowledge and self-development. In this regard, developing a positive image of a person becomes an urgent problem not only for the politics and business, but also in teachers’ activity, including the teachers of culture and art, whose task is to train highly qualified and competitive specialists. The characteristics of the concepts “image”, “professional image”, “image structure” are introduced. It is shown that image reflects a certain style of new social behavior and it can directly influence the training of future teachers-choreographers contributing to its success. The article presents the empirical research results concerning the role of image in the professional activity of teachers of choreographic disciplines who train future teacherschoreographers. The article examines the attitude of students to issues of their own image and the image of teachers on the example of the Institute of Culture and Arts.
