An analysis of the wool productivity in Caucasian breed sheep of various sex and age groups is presented, and the effectiveness of selection in terms of the length, fineness, thickness and yolk of wool is shown. It was revealed that in the CJSC of “Plemzavod named after V.V. Kalyagin, the Hero of Socialist Labor”, the average clip of greasy wool is 5.8 kg when the yield of washed fiber is 59.1%. It has been established that the genetic recourses of the herd enable the farm to receive an average clip of 3.4 kg of washed wool. The selection differential for washed wool clip in animals of different sex and age groups was determined, which has made 0.9-3.3 kg, or 28.8-63.5%. The sheep capita of the Caucasian breed in the breeding plant is characterized by very thick wool (95.7%), which is confirmed by experimental data, where the total thickness of the hair follicles is 59.1 pieces per 1 mm2 of skin. It was established that the selection differential by the length of wool in the context of sex and age groups varies within 1.5-3.5 cm, or 16.7-43.8%. The revealed differentiation of wool fineness in Caucasian breed sheep confirms the consolidation of the herd by this trait, where the 64th quality is the leading fineness. It was experimentally established that the amount of wool fat in greasy non-fatted wool is 8.3%, the amount of wool sweat has made 12.1%, and the amount of diphilic substances is 3.2%. The ratio of wool fat: wool sweat is 0.70. It is noted that animals of the Caucasian breed have a white wool yolk (94.9%) and a sufficient amount of it (95.6%), which indicates a good consolidation of this trait in the sheep capita.

SUMMARYThe generation interval may be defined as the mean age of parents of all progeny born, or as the mean age of parents of only those progeny destined to be selected as replacements. If the mean age of parents of replacements is used, selection differentials must be calculated within parental age groups. If the mean age of parents of all progeny born is used, the selection differential contains a component due to disproportionate selection of replacements from different parental age groups.

The purpose of researches is to increase wool efficiency and quality of wool Akzhaiksky meat-wool breed of sheep due to purposeful use of new lines. Material for researches served Akzhaiksky meat-wool breed ewe of the BAK-4087 and ZKATU-7082 line. Both lines were created by method of difficult uniform and diverse selection of initial material that has allowed to receive animals of desirable type from which animals of the second generation from them by homogeneous and heterogeneous selection have been received selection for cultivation «in itself» has been made. Lines were created by taking into account wool efficiency and its quality indicators. In article comparative indicators of wool efficiency are considered it is bright the compared lines at 8-month age. By wool cutting in the original and free wool the ZKATU-7082 lines ewes are surpassed the contemporaries from the BAK-4087 line on 0.17 and 0.13 kg, respectively. From ewes BAK-4087 lines 64.0% of wool of the 56th quality and 16.0% – the 58th quality are received, and from it is bright the ZKATU-7082 lines 66.0% of wool of the 58th quality and 30.0% of wool – the 56th quality are received. Other wool by quality in the compared groups was the 50th quality. For indicators of natural and true length of wool and fortress of wool fibers the BAK-4087 lines authentically ewes are surpassed by ewes ZKATU-7082 lines. The obtained data can be the basis for improvement of wool efficiency of Akzhaiksky meat-wool breed sheep.

Abstract Background Understanding patient preferences in emergency departments (EDs) can provide useful information to enhance patient-centred care and improve patient’s experience in hospitals. This study sought to find evidence about patients’ preference for physicians when receiving services in EDs in Iran. Methods In this discrete choice experiment survey, 811 respondents completed the scenarios with 5 attributes, including type of physicians, price of services, time to receive services, physician work experience, and physician responsibility. Analyses were conducted for different social and economic groups as well as for the total population. Results This study showed that the willingness to pay (WTP) for being visited by a physician with a high sense of responsibility was 67.104US$. WTP for being visited by an emergency medicine specialist (EMS) was 22.148US$. WTP for receiving ED services 1 min earlier was 0.417US$ and for being visited by 1 year higher experienced physician was 0.866US$. WTP varied across different age groups, sex, health status, education, and income groups. Conclusion As the expertise and experience of providers are important factors in selecting physicians in EDs by the patients, providing this information to patients when they want to select their providers can promote patient-centred care. This information can decrease patients’ uncertainty in the selection of their services and improve their experience in hospitals.

Abstract. Background: Establishing understanding of infants’ dietary intakes can support interventions to improve their diets and overall health. Because information on the dietary intakes of infants aged ≤12 months in Saudi Arabia is scarce, this study examined the diets of infants aged 6 and 12 months in Saudi Arabia and determined their main dietary sources of total energy and macronutrients. Methods: A crosssectional dietary survey employing a single 24-hour recall was performed between May and December 2015 with a sample of mothers of 278 healthy 6-month-old and 259 12-month-old infants. An analysis of the dietary intake data determined the nutrient intake adequacy and the percentage contributions of foods to energy and macronutrient intakes. Results: The respective mean daily energy intakes of the 6-month-old and 12-month-old infants in the study were 703 kcal and 929 kcal. Both age groups recorded adequate nutrient intakes, with the exception that the 6-month-olds’ mean vitamin D intake fell below the recommended Adequate Intake (AI), and the 12-month-olds’ intakes of omega-6 fatty acids and vitamin D were also below the AI, along with their iron intake which fell short of the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA). Conclusion: The data generated here will assist health professionals in planning interventions which aim to improve infants’ diets and to offer guidance to parents on the appropriate selection of food for their infants.

Compared to the attention that children's literature scholars have paid to the construction of childhood in children's literature and the role of adults as authors, mediators and readers of children's books, few researchers have made a systematic study of adults as characters in children's books. This article analyses the construction of adulthood in a selection of texts by the Dutch author and Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award winner Guus Kuijer and connects them with Elisabeth Young-Bruehl's recent concept of ‘childism’ – a form of prejudice targeted against children. Whereas Kuijer published a severe critique of adulthood in Het geminachte kind [The despised child] (1980), in his literary works he explores a variety of positions that adults can take towards children, with varying degrees of childist features. Such a systematic and comparative analysis of the way grown-ups are characterised in children's texts helps to shed light on a didactic potential that materialises in different adult subject positions. After all, not only literary and artistic aspects of children's literature may be aimed at the adult reader (as well as the child), but also the didactic aspect of children's books can cross over between different age groups.

ABSTRACT All clinical S. pneumoniae specimens isolated from patients with invasive or sterile-site infections admitted to one regional general hospital in southern Chile were collected during a 5-year period (February 1994 to September 1999). A total of 247 strains belonging to 50 serotypes were isolated in this survey: 69 in patients under 5 years of age, 129 in patients 5 to 64 years old, and 49 from patients 65 years and older. Eight serotypes were identified in all age groups, while all other serotypes were found exclusively in one age group or in patients over 4 years of age. Serotype 3 was never found in patients under 5 years old, and serotype 14 was not found in patients >64 years of age. There was no difference in the serotypes causing infection in each one of the 5 years of the survey. Our results suggest that both bacterial virulence factors and host factors play an important role in the selection of S. pneumoniae serotypes causing invasive infection. Possible host factors include age-related differences in the immune response. Comparative studies with other areas of the world may help to further understanding of our observations in southern Chile.

Abstract This study examined service use and expenditures for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) living at home and in the community in California in 2005 and 2013. The number of people assessed for IDD services increased, along with the percentage of individuals who did not receive any services between 2005 and 2013. Controlling for client needs, children age 3–21 were less likely than other age groups to receive any services using logistic regressions. All racial and ethnic minority groups were less likely to receive any services than were white populations. Females, younger people, and all racial and ethnic minority groups who received services had significantly lower expenditures, with wide geographic variations. The disparities by age, gender, race/ethnicity, and geography have persisted over time in California.

The aim of the study is to optimize the comprehensive treatment of patients with severe arterial hypertension, through the use of multicomponent rational antihypertensive pharmacotherapy, followed by the use of unloading therapeutic exercises. 32 men with severe arterial hypertension were examined. Initially, a clinical, instrumental and laboratory examination, registration of blood pressure and its 24-hour monitoring were carried out. The average daily systolic (ADBPsyst.) and average daily diastolic (ADBPdiast.) blood pressure were determined. A multicomponent rational antihypertensive pharmacotherapy, according to the clinical recommendations for the treatment of arterial hypertension was selected for all the patients. In at least 3 months after the selection of pharmacotherapy, the patients were divided into two groups, comparable in gender, age, severity of the condition, features of the disease course and medicamentous therapy. Patients of the 1st group (active treatment group) against the background of pharmacotherapy were prescribed unloading therapeutic exercises according to a patented technique. The 2nd group of patients continued to take pharmacotherapy and it was used as a baseline group. The average age in the 1st and 2nd groups was 46,3±6,8 and 43,6±7,2 years, respectively. Patients of the 1st group were prescribed unloading therapeutic exercises and in 3 months in both groups the ADBPsyst. and ADBPdiast. were compared. Initially, there was a significant increase in ADBPsyst. and ADBPdiast. compared to the normal range in both groups. These indicators in both groups differed insignificantly. In 3 months after pharmacotherapy, there was a significant decrease in ADsyst. and ADdiast. in both groups, but these indicators remained elevated and did not reach the target level. Then, in the 1st group, unloading therapeutic exercises were included in the comprehensive treatment. Patients of the 2nd group continued to receive pharmacotherapy. In 3 months after including unloading therapeutic exercises in the 1st group, there was a significant decrease in ADBP (syst. and diast.) not only in comparison with the initial data, but also with the data in 3 months after pharmacotherapy. In the 2nd group, these indicators did not change significantly compared to the three-month data. In 6 months, ADBPsyst. and ADBPdiast. in the 1st group were significantly lower compared to similar indicators in the 2nd group, which proves significant clinical effectiveness of unloading therapeutic exercises in patients of the 1st group. The results obtained confirm that patients with severe arterial hypertension have such types of disorders at the cellular-tissue and microcirculatory level that are not eliminated only by drug therapy. For their high-grade correction, along with multicomponent pharmacotherapy, it is necessary to include unloading therapeutic exercises. To optimize the treatment of severe arterial hypertension against the background of receiving multicomponent antihypertensive pharmacotherapy, it is recommended to include unloading therapeutic exercises in the therapeutic complex.

A method is proposed that allows us to obtain the values of the rate constants (CR) of the processes of mechanodestruction (mechanical cracking) of kм, oxidative destruction of kо, and recombination of kр macromolecules, as well as the mass fractions of the corresponding fractions of φм, φо, and φр,r involved in the plasticization process (P) of SKI-3 isoprene rubber. The method is based on the selection of the values of these parameters that correspond to the previously obtained experimental data, using the previously obtained recurrent equations and a specially developed program. The dependences of the CR on the time P at 30oC are obtained, which allows us to describe the kinetics of the processes accompanying P at this temperature, and the changes in molecular mass (MM) in this process. It is shown that constant values of CR are established at large times of P. Refined explanations of the nature of the kinetics of the CR change at P are proposed. The MM value of SKI-3 macromolecules that have not undergone destruction is calculated, depending on the time of plasticization.
