Aim: Lately, there is more and more discussion about sustainable development and social responsibility within organizations, thus increasing the pressure on organizations and managers to act ethically and responsibly. The main purpose of this study is to present how Romanian businesses have integrated aspects of social responsibility into the decision-making and management systems of organizations. The study focuses on identifying the main factors behind the development of the concept of social responsibility and presenting the link between economic activity and sustainable development. A major focus of this research is the study on the implications of corporate social responsibility in reducing the number of youth unemployment at national level. Design/Research methods: As far as the methodology of research is concerned, we will start from the theoretical documentation and we will continue with empirical research, using descriptive analysis and statistical interpretation of data as the main research methods. Conclusions/findings: Empirical research conducted in this paper allowed us to observe the involvement of organizations in adopting support measures for the social problems of young people unemployed. Originality/value of the article: Social responsibility is a vast concept that is growing in Romania and the implication of this concept in solving unemployment has led us to realize the present research that we want to add value to both the business environment in Romania and young researchers interested in this field.

The article attempts to apply the concept of «soft power», characteristic of international relations, to analyze the struggle of participants in separatist conflicts at the national level. The purpose of the study is to consider the «soft power» resources and tools of each of the parties to the conflict between Catalonia and Spain and the conflict between Scotland and the United Kingdom. The main research methods are general logical, institutional and comparative. It is concluded that in the countries under consideration, in the conditions of the manifestation of separatism, the «soft power» has obvious socio-cultural, political, institutional and legal grounds. According to the authors, despite the specifics of the «soft power» confrontation, in each of the cases considered, culture in its various manifestations, image strategies of the parties to the conflict, as well as the institution of the monarchy are crucial.

At both macroeconomic and national level, in recent decades, European tax policies have shown a particular interest in addressing the spectrum of risk issues in terms of maturing the business environment and the lack of sustainable development of the economy. In Romania there has been a significant increase in public debt, which is increasingly threatening fiscal sustainability. This is due to fiscal rules that restrict the applicability of fiscal policy to balancing the national economy. However, fiscal policy did not act in the direction of economic recovery during the crisis that started in the last quarter of 2008, which had a negative impact on the Romanian business environment. Objectively, fiscal policy should manifest itself as a general framework of the economy on the basis of which to develop fiscal rules that act in the direction of sustainable development of the business environment and implicitly, of socio-economic life. The research carried out referred to identify how fiscal rules in Romania restrict the application of fiscal policy as well as whether there is an explicit concordance between them. The research methodology aimed to use the ARDL model to apply the Granger causality test, using quarterly data for a set of four indicators, being identified that Romanian fiscal rules restrict fiscal policy. The achieved results highlighted the fact that fiscal rules restrict fiscal policy, being identified a long-run relationship between the analyzed variables and implicitly, a state of instability of the fiscal system in Romania. Purpose Learning about sustainable development in dedicated curricula can be beneficial for students’ personal and professional development and societies alike. However, for various reasons the implementation of sustainable development modules in existing curricula can be difficult in many fields of study. This paper aims to propose an alternative route to give students the chance to learn about sustainable development without the need to change the structure of their study program. Design/methodology/approach The current paper elaborates on the idea that many fields of study have mandatory courses on empirical research methods and these courses can function as a platform to teach applied empirical research methods in combination with education on sustainable development. A three-phase model is proposed to implement sustainable development topics in existing curricula, taking students’ current methodological competency level into account. Findings The proposed model provides a chance to combine education on sustainability with thorough training in scientific research methods. Example projects and evaluation results from an existing social science curriculum and its integration into a real-world laboratory on sustainable energy use illustrate the different phases and their goals. Originality/value The model offers the opportunity to implement education on sustainability into existing curricula without the need for difficult structural changes. It extends students’ learning on sustainability without impairing their learning of research methods. A discussion of the model’s limitations and boundary conditions helps to understand its potential use cases and challenges.

The authors propose an analysis of the corporate social responsibility (CSR) concept together with an emphasis on the role it plays in the context of sustainable development. As this is a concept with a relatively brief history in the Romanian business environment, the authors include references to relevant papers in the specialised literature throughout this chapter. The chapter includes a synthesis of the various theoretical approaches to CSR, an overview of the CSR practices development at national and international level, certain authors' for and against arguments related to generalising these practices, trends regarding CSR practices at international level, as well as an analysis of the CSR practices in Romania. The research conclusions express own points of view on the development of corporate social responsibility initiatives at company level and the related benefits thereof.

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is a broad concept, and it has witnessed several versions since its initiation. Without doubt, in the current business and economic scenario, CSR has been gaining momentum; therefore, it is crucial to explore and comprehend the basic responsibility of CSR and sustainable development. It is, therefore, significant to analyse and explore the evolution of CSR throughout the years and link it with sustainable development. The present study analyses and compares the various CSR models based on the order of significance, scope of responsibility, role of philanthropy, CSR–corporate financial performance relationship and attractiveness and its impact on sustainable development. The study reveals that the concept of CSR and sustainable development are steadily stepping towards a unified form, where companies’ commitment towards social obligation brings about practical and exhaustive improvement. It was observed that several models have been proposed and modified, yet there is a wide gap between the concept and practical execution of CSR models due to the different strategies followed by business organizations, which vary from nation to nation depending upon their business environment. The widely accepted stakeholder model suggests that companies should care for the interests of stakeholders, for instance shareholders, traders, consumers, employees and the society, for sustaining its business.

Abstract In the context of a modern economy, maximizing the value of economic entities cannot be achieved only through basic activities. The fulfillment of this strategic objective implies the conduct of other types of activities bearing a social impact, brought together under the concept of corporate social responsibility. In this context, the authors intend to empirically investigate the social responsibility, both in terms of concept, evolution, and management, at the level of the economic entities and to argue the necessity of extending it at a microeconomic level for a sustainable development.

The trade (qualitative and quantitative level of trade) can promote the concept of sustainable development. The concept of Sustainable Development involves the implementation of theoretical and practical components for making decisions in any situation in which features a man-type medium, be it the environment, economic or social. The goals of sustainable development include the harmonization of the economic, social and environmental targets. This paper presents the main types of the correlations: Trade – Sustainable Development – Economic Crisis. The Sustainable Development (SD) concept is also analyzed in direct correlation with the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) concept. The SD concept involves the implementation of theoretical and practical components for making decisions in any situation in which a man-type medium, be it the environment, economic or social features. The Corporations (qualitative and quantitative level of trade) can promote the concept of sustainable development. The goals of sustainable development include the harmonization of the economic, social and environmental targets. Abstract The advent of digital era and the growing competition require higher education providers to equip graduates with the right mix of skills needed for competing in a technology rich environment, delivering value-added to the market and to the economy at large. The responsible education has a pivotal role in addressing current business issues related to professional business conduct, citizenship and equity values, social and civic skills, and sustainable development concerns. The paper aims to investigate the implications of social responsibility concept in the education area and to examine the learning needs of business engineering students with respect to business, environment, and social concerns deeply embedded in the social responsibility framework. The results enable ranking the attitudes and perceptions, knowledge and skills of business engineering students and bring to light their straightforward expectations with respect to better promoting social responsibility strategies and practices, and the need to bring the world of work with toughest social and innovation issues in the world of education. Considering the research findings, the author paid attention to the responsibility of education to fulfill its role in society by adjusting the business engineering education towards sustainable development and by augmenting education through social responsibility teaching and learning components into the improved curriculum.

As women all over the world keep advocating for the advancement of women's rights and allied matters, it becomes imperative to undertake relevant reviews. In line with this thought, this chapter investigated the likelihood of women-supportive media's coverage on two incidents: The Ugborodo women's protest of 2002 in the Niger Delta as well as the anniversary of International Women's Day in 2015. Interestingly, women from all over the world chose the same year to resolve on Planet 50-50 as a landmark commemoration of the Beijing Platform for Action, BPFA of 1995. Guided by the social responsibility theory of the media, the research methods used were both qualitative content analysis and in-depth interview. For content analysis, two national newspapers currently edited by women, The Sunday Punch and Saturday Punch newspapers were examined to ascertain the selected titles' reckoning for women's issues. Interviews were also conducted with women in the media, academia and civil society groups. The findings revealed that the selected newspapers, though edited by women, still needed some support to ensure inclusivity as it concerned women.
