This article describes a research study involving 132 students on a Primary Education Sciences degree course at Roma Tre University. A complexity paradigm was employed for the research, which used group activities to design a questionnaire that was subsequently analysed to provide 8 different perspectives. The underlying theoretical perspective involved investigation of the applicability of the transactional analysis concept of Cultural Parent (and the associated concepts of Frame of Reference, Script and Ego States) as a way of understanding how changes are needed in educational processes to reflect how family, school and societal cultures have changed, with particular reference to Generation App and the increasing impact of technology on virtual spaces, and the need to reflect cultural diversity.

Purpose The purpose of this paper was to ascertain how social entrepreneurs were required to recognize their new ventures’ scope and scale of operations. The firm boundary was based upon two dimensions, namely, the scope of the offering and its scale. The objective of this research was to ascertain the thinking regarding this of social entrepreneurs engaged through technology-based social entrepreneurship (TBSE). Design/methodology/approach This study conducted an in-depth interview of 26 technology entrepreneurs engaged in social entrepreneurship ventures in India. The interview was carried out based upon a semi-structured open-ended questionnaire. This study undertook thematic and relational content analysis to develop a model of technology-based social entrepreneurs’ venture scoping and scaling. Findings This study found that the antecedent variables were the level of support perceived by social entrepreneur from government and at the industry level. Furthermore, the variables’ entrepreneurial and market orientation of social entrepreneurs were found to be the independent variables. These four variables in turn determined the explorative and exploitative horizon of the technology-based social entrepreneurs. Finally, an interplay of these variables ascertained the perspectives of social entrepreneurs engaged in TBSE regarding the notion of their firm’s scope and scale. Research limitations/implications The theoretical insights developed in this research study provided an integrated theoretical perspective accommodating both environmental perspectives (industry support and government support) and organizational perspectives (entrepreneurial and market aspects). This was in context of TBSE. Practical implications The insights from this research study could provide a robust and comprehensive understanding to social entrepreneurs regarding the strategic thinking towards scale and scope for a technology-based social venture. Originality/value To the best of the author’s knowledge, this study was one of the first theoretical works in TBSE towards scaling versus scoping perspectives.

The article presents research which compares computer use by students from Poland and Ukraine in the scope of such activities as entertainment, work/study, practical activities, hobbies and communication. The research was carried out using the diagnostic survey method, with the help of the questionnaire technique, in a group of 286 people in total (166 from Poland and 120 from Ukraine). Since the research tool contained questions related to the concept of transactional analysis, it allowed for analysing the profile of ego states examined at the level of functional analysis and drivers. Due to this, it was possible to indicate not only differences in the manner of using new technologies, but also to determine their sources. The use of transactional analysis in research related to human functioning in the world of new media is the original initiative of the author of this article.

Santrauka. Straipsnio tikslas – pristatyti migraciją patiriančių šeimų sociologinio tyrimo metmenis. Autorė parodo, kad šeimų daugiadimensinė analizė šeimos ir giminės resursų, atminties diskursų, šeimos darybos ir demonstravimo praktikų bei sunkumų įveikos mechanizmų požiūriu, reikalauja mišrių metodų tyrimo. Aptariamas paradigmos ir konceptualaus tyrimo modelio pasirinkimas, pristatomi metodologiniai sprendimai, analizuojama, kaip derinimas tampa svarbia metodologine tyrimo ašimi. Straipsnio autorė atskleidžia pragmatinės koncepcijos taikymo galimybes ir išryškina teorijų, metodų bei duomenų derinimą. Sociologiniame tyrime simbolinis interakcionizmas laikomas tyrimo pagrindine teorine perspektyva, o Reubeno Hillo šeiminių pokyčių modelis tampa konceptualia ašimi. Straipsnyje aptariami metodologiniai sprendimai, kurių tikslas – atskleisti šeiminių pokyčių į-teorinimą, pasitelkiant simbolinio interakcionizmo koncepcijų, solidarumo teorinio konstrukto, socialinius tinklus ir šeimines praktikas analizuojančių koncepcijų idėjas. Pristatoma darbinė šeimos samprata ir šeimos tyrimo analitinis modelis bei numatomos šeimos ir valstybės sąryšio tyrimo gairės.Pagrindiniai žodžiai: šeima, migracija, solidarumas, socialiniai tinklai, įveika.Key words: family, migration, solidarity, social networks, coping.ABSTRACT SOCIOLOGICAL RESEARCH DESIGN OF FAMILIES UNDER MIGRATIONThe aim of the article is introduce the research design of families affected by migration. The author argues that multidimensional family study from the perspective of family and kin resources, memory discourses, family doing and displaying practices, as well as coping with hardships requires mixed methods research. Research paradigm and theoretical model are discussed, methodological decisions are introduced, it is explained that triangulation is treated as one of the leading methodological decisions of the research design. The author discloses the possibilities of pragmatic approach and discusses triangulation of theories, methods, as well as data. Symbolic interactionism constitutes the main theoretical perspective of the research study, while Reuben Hill’s family change model is treated as conceptual axis of research. The aim of methodological solutions discussed in the article is to theorize family change by means of ideas of symbolic interactionism, theoretical construct of solidarity, personal networks and conceptions of family practices. The working concept of family and analytical model of family research, as well as the guidelines of family-state relations are delineated. In the knowledge society, autonomous and Self-Directed Learning (SDL) have become particularly important for professional development and lifelong learning. This kind of learning can take place in physical and virtual spaces that may belong to formal institutions but also to extended communities and networks. In virtual spaces, self-directed learning and self-regulation skills and capacities play an important role in learners' performance. For this reason, it is highly recommended to empower students to design and deploy educational spaces and projects able to fuse formal and informal contexts. The use of Personal Learning Environments (PLEs) can support learners to gain control over their experiences through Web-based tools and a task-orientated environment. It is known that time management is one relevant component of self-regulated learning. There are many Web-based tools that can be used to control time investment and promote planning but little research that takes into account time management in the design and use of PLEs. This chapter describes the results of the Just4me project1, aimed at designing and developing a PLE to support self-regulated learning dealing with time management as an important dimension in lifelong learning. From this perspective, this chapter contributes to the operationalization and analysis of the time factor in online learning regarding time management in self-regulated learning processes supported by PLEs.

The present research paper attempts an intertextual reading of When Breath becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi, an Indian-American neurosurgeon and a writer. The term intertextuality was originally coined by Julia Kristeva and it refers to the presence of one or more text/s within a text. It rejects the idea of the closure of meaning and it demonstrates the dialogic state of a text. The current research study is significant as it aims to provide a better understanding of the interdisciplinary connection of fiction with that of any non-fiction text. It further highlights that the use of allusions, reminiscences, aphorisms, and quotations, and aphorisms in the novels that call for many interpretations. The current study has applies the theoretical perspective of postmodern historiographic metafiction proposed by Linda Hutcheon in her book Poetic’s of Postmodernism: History, Theory, Fiction (2003). This research uses intertextuality as a tool to analyze the selected text. Early on, the memoir has been studied with respect to limited perspectives; however, the present study aims to analyze it in the light of postmodernism that refers to a trend of plurality, uncertainty, metafiction, fragmentation, identity crisis, pastiche and intertextuality. The research objective explores the extent to which the writer interweaves fiction into historical texts to generate a postmodern blend in a single narrative. This research is qualitative and descriptive, while textual analysis has been used as a research method. This research ends with the findings and recommendations for the future research.

Economic and cultural globalisation has resulted in particular political ideologies in policy and practice that have created a certain essentialism – a tightened modernist ‘will to certainty’ – which is reinscribed in curricular practices in New Zealand teacher education. At a time when the naming and framing of educational practice in terms of the ‘knowledge society’, the ‘learning society’ and the effects of such discourses on experience needs to be revealed in teacher education – when the relations between political ideologies and their inscription in policy and practice need to be exposed – critical approaches that might threaten global knowledge truth claims exposing the non-neutrality of educational processes have been diminished. A limited selection of ‘worthwhile’ knowledge, which has its genesis in classroom instruction, is involved in censure and a politics of censure opened here for analysis, and thus preconditions practice in the changing educational terrain of the teaching subject. What is questioned here is the related essentialism of the dominant discourses of teacher education (pedagogy, assessment and evaluation, psychology and learning theory), based as these discourses are on the human subject. Drawing distinctions between ‘education’ and ‘pedagogy’, it is suggested that a continuing ‘education’ in the broadest sense of the word rather than mere ‘pedagogy’ is necessary for teachers to be named ‘educated’ professionals.

ABSTRACT In the knowledge society of 21st century, intellectual property rights (IPRs) are real assets and much more valuable and important than are materialistic assets like house, motor car, and so on. Patents are given for inventions which fulfill few important conditions, such as novelty, inventiveness, industrial application, and written description. Significantly, biotechnological invention involves monopoly over life or living beings or living processes, and morally and ethically these are considered to involve tinkering with life or nature. However, today, biotechnological inventions are patentable because of their benefits and utility to the industry. This article is a humble attempt to examine international and national law and judicial decisions relating to patents and biotechnological inventions from a theoretical perspective. Abstract: This paper presents a descriptive research study on the perceptions of a group of 171 primary school teachers about their creativity. In particular, the research focused on beliefs related to the nature of creativity, its importance in education, and the benefits that it offers, both individually and socially. The main objective is to ascertain whether their perceptions correspond with current research on creativity, or alternatively with outdated concepts. In addition, the participants were asked about the methodologies that they consider to be effective for developing creativity. As an instrument, a Likert-style questionnaire with two open-ended questions at the end was used. The results indicate that most of the teachers consider creativity to be very important, however, certain ideas based on an archaic understanding of creativity still exist. Similarly, there is a lack of knowledge about teaching methodologies that can be employed to develop creativity. Keywords:teachers’ beliefs, creativity, primary education, creative methodologies.   http://dx.doi.org/10.7203/eari.9.12224
