This study aimed to investigate the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to improve Kiswahili teaching and learning at the University of Dodoma. The objectives of the study were: To identify the experience of using ICT devices in teaching general language, to examine the use of ICT in Kiswahili language classes and suggest innovative ICT tools to teach and spread Kiswahili. The study employed social learning theory of Bandura. The study used a descriptive survey design to answer the research questions. Purposive sampling was used to choose key informants. Documentaries, interviews and focus group discussion were used for teachers and students to collect data and documentary reviews used to provide further information.The results showed a limited use of ICT in teaching and learning of general languages and this adds up into poor access of existing installed language laboratory. The results also showed minimal use of ICT in Kiswahili language classes to the extent that majority of the students preferred to use Kiswahili in the computers, laptops and mobile phones. However, the study came up with various innovative ICT tools such as web based learning and improved language lab to teach and spread Kiswahili language. This can be done through ICT tools such as computer use, mobile phones and accessing the internet through language apps.

The main aim of this study was to investigate the use of ICT in teaching Kiswahili plays in secondary schools as a way of cultivating interest and positive attitude towards drama at an early age. The objectives of the study were: To ascertain whether teachers of Kiswahili play have ICT skills for teaching Kiswahili plays and to examine attitude of teachers of Kiswahili towards integration of ICT in teaching Kiswahili plays The study used social learning theory by Bandura and the functionalism theory by John Dewey. The study employed a descriptive survey design to answer the research questions. Stratified sampling was used to categorize schools in to boys, girls, mixed schools, day and boarding schools. Simple random sampling was applied to select 275 students from a total of 918 students. The study used focus group discussion, questionnaires for teachers and students to collect data and interviews to provide further information on the teacher’s attitude on the use of ICT in teaching Kiswahili play and observation. The study showed limited use of ICT in teaching and learning of Kiswahili play and it adds up into the pool of existing knowledge and is beneficial to teachers since it gives suggestion on the best combination to motivate and arouse interest of teaching and also to the teacher training institutions in preparing teachers to adequately use ICT in instruction in classroom level and also to the curriculum developers.

<p>The aim of this study is to investigate the impact of information and communication technology (ICT) integration in the teaching and learning practices of educational systems. The study is carried out by reviewing various literatures and studies on the ideas of ICT and its usage in teaching and learning practices. The study reveals that ICT is vital to transform the teaching and learning process and has a great importance for both teachers and students. It also looks at the definitions of ICT as given by different scholars. Lack of well-equipped ICT tools, beliefs and commitments of teachers as well as students on Technology-based Teaching and Learning practices are the main challenges of ICT implementation in education successfully.</p>

The study examined the availability and utilization of ICT Resources for teaching English Language in secondary schools located in Nsukka urban of Enugu state, Nigeria. Two research questions and one hypothesis guided the study. The design of the study was descriptive survey design. Purposive sampling technique was used to select 9 teachers out 29 English teachers from the 9 public secondary schools in Nsukka urban. One English teacher each from the nine schools making it a total number of 9 teachers were used for the study. Checklist and questionnaires were used to collect data. These instruments were validated by three experts from university of Nigeria Nsukka. Percentages, mean and standard deviation and t-test were used to analyse the data collected. The findings of the study revealed that only 3 ICT resources were available for teaching English language in secondary schools. The study also revealed that the very few that were available were grossly underutilized. This implied that the teaching of English which is known for its capacity to douse linguistic tension in our multilingual Nigeria is not effectively and efficiently taught and learnt. Recommendations made include that government should make available ICT resources for the purposes of teaching English in secondary schools in Nsukka urban and that teachers should be exposed on how to use the ICT resources.

The paper evaluated the accessibility of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools to business education lecturers and students. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. A total of 110 students and 20 lecturers were randomly selected from the department of business education for the study. Two research questions guided the study and one null hypothesis tested at 0.05 level of significance. The co-efficient of 0.86 was obtained for the research instrument. Research questions were reported as means and standard deviation values while T-test was used to test the null hypothesis. The results showed that ICT supportive tools were available for teaching and learning Business Education in Kwara State College of Education Ilorin. Hence, there was no difference in perception of lecturers and students accessibility of ICT tools. Respondents recommended provision of adequate ICT tools by the government for teaching and learning of business education. Trainings like seminars with workshop is of immense importance for ICT support staff.

ICT based teaching is the most popular fashion of today's higher education in the world. Most of the teachers and students tried to habituate in ICT tools for their teaching and learning. Due to this fact scenario, I focused on to explore the perception of teachers and students towards ICT as teaching- learning tools. It has used the qualitative approach where phenomenology as the research method to explore the realities. The teachers and students were selected through the purposive sampling. The focus group discussion and in-depth interview were conducted with the selected informants to reach the rich and depth information. The major finding is that the teachers and students were highly positive to use the ICT tools in higher education teaching. It helped to create the motivating and entertaining classroom. It also facilitated in self-learning for teachers and students. It supported to the teachers and students to develop the collaborative learning culture, where they easily promoted the supported culture.

This study examines how secondary school plays its role as a custodian of moral values in society. What it takes to teach moral values in the school. What are the facilities, subjects, punishments, as well as teaching methods adopted by the school? All these are what the study set out to examine. This was verified using 15 purposively sampled secondary schools in the Sokoto metropolis. The study adopted a descriptive survey design. A questionnaire with psychometrics properties of 0.72 and 0.81 for validity and reliability respectively, was used to elicit the needed data from the respondents which constituted both teachers and students of the selected schools. The findings reveal the current state secondary school Sokoto state lacks in its role to serve as a custodian of moral values, from its facilities, subjects, enforcing conformity, and teaching strategies. In conclusion, for secondary school to perform its role as custodian of moral values, it was recommended among others that there should be the provision of more facilities conducive to teaching and learning in the schools to enable the secondary school plays its role as a custodian of moral values in the society.

Since the advent of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), teaching and learning have somewhat taken a paradigm shift. It is, thus, imperative for teachers in all disciplines to appreciate the essence of integrating ICTs in teaching and learning. In this regard, this study sought to explore Basic School Ghanaian Language teachers’ perceptions of ICT integration in Ghanaian language teaching. The study employed a descriptive survey design. Stratified random sampling was used to obtain data from 205 teachers in the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo region of Ghana. Analysis of data collected through a self-developed questionnaire reveals that Ghanaian language teachers exhibit a positive perception of ICT integration in education. However, in practice, they tend to integrate ICT in their instruction on occasional basis. Also, it was revealed that a lack of financial support for ICT resources and lack of in-service training on ICT use were factors that militated against ICT integration in Ghanaian language teaching. Finally, the study revealed a statistically significant difference between degree holders and diploma holders’ perception of ICT integration in teaching and learning Ghanaian language.

<p>This paper investigated the causes and possible strategies to minimize examination malpractices in Senior High Schools (SHSs) in Ghana. A descriptive survey design with a quantitative approach was used for the study. Proportional stratified and simple random sampling techniques were used to select a sample of 335 respondents which comprised 302 students and 33 teachers. Frequencies, percentages, means and standard deviations were used to analyse the data gathered. The findings revealed that the leading cause of examination malpractices was ‘insufficient students’ preparation for WASSCE and Public education on effects of examination malpractices has also emerged as the number one strategy to minimize the menace. It was concluded that in schools where a conducive environment and teaching/ learning materials are not provided for effective academic work, performance falls below what is expected, to achieve academic success, students and teachers engage in examination malpractices to raise the academic image of the school. In the teaching and learning process, teachers are required to be able to carry out their role to the fullest as a motivator and initiator in an effort to maintain and at the same time increase the enthusiasm of students to learn. Especially in the Covid-19 pandemic situation which requires educational institutions to carry out online learning. This study aims to discuss the teacher's role as a motivator and the teacher's role as an initiator in improving the quality of student learning in online learning at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Ma'arif Condro Jember. This research uses qualitative research methods and the type of research is a case study. Data collection techniques using observation, interviews and documentation. The validity of the data using source triangulation and technical triangulation. Meanwhile, data analysis uses data condensation, data presentation and verification/conclusion. The results of this study indicate: 1) The teacher's role as a motivator in improving the quality of learning in online learning, namely: providing opportunities for students to play an active role in learning, providing reinforcement, praise or verbal appreciation, teachers listening to students' concerns and wishes to bond. good relationship between teachers and students. 2) The role of the teacher as an initiator in improving the quality of learning in online learning, namely: utilizing information and communication technology such as Whatsapp, Facebook, Google Meet and Google Form. Keywords: Teacher Role; Quality of Learning; Online Learning Dalam proses belajar mengajar, guru dituntut untuk mampu melaksanakan perannya secara maksimal menjadi motivator dan inisiator dalam upaya menjaga dan sekaligus meningkatkan semangat belajar peserta didik. Terlebih dalam situasi pandemi Covid-19 yang menuntut lembaga pendidikan untuk melaksanakan pembelajaran secara Daring. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membahas tentang peran guru sebagai motivator dan peran guru sebagai inisiator dalam meningkatan kualitas belajar peserta didik pada pembelajaran daring di Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Ma’arif Condro Jember. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif dan jenis penelitiannya adalah studi kasus. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Keabsahan data menggunakan triangulasi sumber dan triangulasi teknik. Sedangkan analisis data menggunakan kondensasi data, penyajian data dan verifikasi/kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan: 1) Peran guru sebagai motivator dalam meningkatkan kualitas belajar pada pembelajaran daring yaitu: memberikan kesempatan kepada peserta didik untuk berperan aktif dalam pembelajaran, memberikan penguatan, pujian atau apresiasi secara verbal, guru mendengarkan keresahan dan keinginan peserta didik agar terjalin ikatan yang baik antara guru dan peserta didik. 2) Peran guru sebagai inisiator dalam meningkatkan kualitas belajar pada pembelajaran daring yaitu: memanfaatkan teknologi informasi dan komunikasi seperti Whatsapp, Facebook, Google Meet dan Google Form. Teaching and learning in the 21st Century requires teachers and students to capitalise upon the relative advantage of integrating Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) to enhance current curriculum, pedagogy and assessment approaches, as well as transform teaching and learning. While most educational systems agree that ICT has the potential to transform teaching and learning, attention has been given recently to the challenge of how to measure and evaluate the impact ICT is having on teaching and learning. This Chapter argues that the most important focus in measuring ICT use needs to be on student use of ICT, as policies and teacher professional development initiatives by themselves are insufficient to ensure that student learning is either enhanced or transformed through ICT use. Insights are provided into the development of a contemporary instrument, for use by Education Queensland, Australia, which aims to measure teacher perceptions of the quantity and quality of student use (as opposed to teacher use) of ICT in the curriculum. The instrument enables teachers and schools to identify their current and preferred levels of student ICT use, and from this, to generate discussion about the integration and transformational potential of ICT and to develop strategic plans to achieve their preferred level of student use. This Chapter also provides summaries of the implementation of the instrument in two large Queensland education systems, and argues that ICT research, such as this approach, which enables large scale, evidence-based research to measure student outcomes as a result of using ICT in the curriculum should be a matter of priority to effectively monitor and manage learning with ICT.
