Previous research on Language Policy has been a growing target of discussion in the academic environment. In this context, I adopt belief and management dimensions from Spolsky model (2004; 2009, 2012) and the notion of policy devices from Shohamy´s (2006) perspective in order to analyse university students and professor´s discourse about linguistic diversity. The instruments used for data collection were exploratory study and participant observation for the researcher, interview with professors and survey with students. It is predominantly a qualitative research, whose main aim was to identify beliefs about linguistic diversity and possible discursive strategies of domination. The discourses revealed divisions about linguistic diversity and accent, although almost unanimously the participants answered that they have already suffered linguistic prejudice. However, the biggest contribution of this work was about the identification of discursive strategies of linguistic domination: the sarcasm, linguistic association to social condition of the region, and repetition.

People use diverse sources of information to obtain political information. We apply uses and gratifications theory (UGT) to illustrate how the use of different political information sources influences perceptions of information satisfaction related to the Tunisian elections of 2014. An online survey of 175 university students in Tunisia, with a 58% response rate. We use partial least squares structural equation modelling to test our research model of hypotheses relating content, process, and social gratifications to information satisfaction. We find that content, process, and social gratifications constructs combine to explain 41% of the variance in information satisfaction. Content gratification has the strongest influence (p=.505) followed by similar levels of influence of process (p=.163) and social (p=.140) gratifications. Social gratifications are partially mediated by process gratification. Limitations of our study include our online survey method and our sample of university students. However, our respondents experienced the uprising, the election campaigns, and voted in the elections, suggesting their perceptions are valid, if not generalisable to all of Tunisia. Practically our study suggests that individuals searching for political information should 1) determine how they’ll know information is accurate, 2) maximize the number of different activities for information-seeking rather than focusing on the frequency of a few activities, and 3) know that information sharing contributes to information satisfaction. The dominance of content gratifications, i.e., information reliability and accuracy, is important for information providers, such as, government and political leaders. Our study provides evidence that UGT is useful in the novel context of emerging political situations.

This article presents an exploratory study into the assumptions, habits of composition and principal difficulties that university students in the study declare to have in regard to the composition of written texts. It is a qualitative study elaborated from a series of semi-structured interviews used as a method of data collection. Once the analysis and categorisation of the data is complete, we present the system of beliefs of the participants regarding professional and academic writing. We identified their most relevant difficulties and make clear what must be taken into consideration when proposing actions which objective is to improve writing competencies in the area of Tertiary Education.

Uses and Gratifications theory is commonly used to research the mass media. The rapid development of socialmedia is directly proportional to the advancement of communication technology, where the ease of accessingsocial media becomes easier. The pandemic that we are currently experiencing has resulted in various changesboth in social, economic and in terms of worship. Muhammadiyah as a religious organization is not only a charity business, but has its main objective as religious education according to tajrih, based on the Al-Qur'an and Hadith. The research approach uses quantitative survei methods in data collection techniques. The results of this study indicate that respondents recognize and acknowledge the credibility of MU Channel in providing religious literacy in the pandemic era. However, this does not make respondents follow all the content, only certain content that they access.

The main aim of our exploratory study was to examine personality traits, enterprising tendencies and entrepreneurial propensity of sports students. Our study was based on data gathered through own data collection using a survey instrument comprising of established measures of enterprising tendencies and interpersonal aspect of personality, and items capturing individual’s entrepreneurial propensity and other personal and environmental attributes. We have collected 254 responses from 130 sports and 124 pedagogy students, who served as a comparison group. Our findings show that sports students exhibit higher enterprising tendency, significant differences in four out of eight examined general personality traits, and higher entrepreneurial propensity compared to their pedagogy counterparts. In search of potential origins of these differences and high embeddedness of entrepreneurship among sports students, we explored selected individual attributes as well as environmental factors related to respondents’ personal and university settings. Based on our findings, we develop implications for entrepreneurship encouragement and utilization of enterprising potential in sports student population.

Lastly, the study also focuses on determining the relationship between social media platforms, social media usage, political communication, and political polarization amongst youths in Ugandans. The study adopts the uses and gratifications theory to help in guiding the study and explaining the available relationships between the variables of the study. A quantitative research design and survey method with a questionnaire as the tool for data collection were used in this study. 192 valid responses were extracted from youths residing in Kampala and Wakiso districts in Uganda as the respondents of the study. The findings of the study reveal that youths in Uganda often use Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter, and Instagram while looking for political-related information to help them form a decision on who to give their support in the election. In addition, the study also reveals that the more the youths look for such political information, the more they become polarized because all the politicians just feed them with information that is divisive and there exists a huge amount of hatred as a result of the consumption of such information on the Ugandan internet space. The uses and gratifications theory is also supported in the study.
