The development of a research roadmap was undertaken to further the activities of a joint industry-university-government initiative in off-site construction research in Canada. The roadmap identifies the general research areas of structural design, construction materials, building science, advanced manufacturing, logistics and transportation, automation and robotics, and digitized construction. The development of the roadmap included a broad literature review of peer reviewed academic journals, select conference proceedings, and industry publications. The review of recent research in these areas was analyzed from the perspectives of application area, technology area and innovation phase. The purpose of the analysis was to identify the current activities and opportunities for further research. For example, in the area of automation and robotics, the results showed the majority of construction automation research relates to the actual production phase, as opposed to planning or operations. In terms of innovation maturity, little research is being undertaken with respect to the implementation and adoption of automation technologies, and very little research in technology development or prototyping. In addition, applied research is being conducted at approximately half the rate of basic research. A more recent trend has been greater research interest in industrial production technologies, particularly in additive manufacturing. Very little research is being conducted with respect to non-robotic cyber-physical systems including, IoT connectivity, drone technologies, or construction focused actuator and manipulator technologies. This paper will discuss the broader results of the research roadmap with a focus on automation and robotics.

Делается заключение, что экспериментальный дизайн и методы медико-фармакологических исследований должны разрабатываться на основании современных принципов и представлений о содержании этапов DDD, с особым акцентом на высокое качество научных исследований на этапе открытия. This brief review discusses challenges of pharmaceutical companies and issues of the most rational relationship between the speed, cost, and quality of the process for drug and technology development (DTD). It was concluded that the experimental design and methods of medical and pharmacological research should be developed on the basis of modern principles and ideas about the essence of DTD stages with a particular emphasis on the high quality of scientific research at the stage of discovery.

The article provides an overview of the continuous alumina-based fibers currently produced as well as their production technologies, major manufacturers and applications. Ceramic fibers are relatively new species and are of particular interest at the modern stage of technology development, since their advantages make them promising in the creation of new types of composite materials. A large number of polycrystalline oxide fibers have been developed, both for refractory insulation and for reinforcing composites.

Human gaze reveals a wealth of information about internal cognitive state. Thus, gaze-related research has significantly increased in computer vision, natural language processing, decision learning, and robotics in recent years. We provide a high-level overview of the research efforts in these fields, including collecting human gaze data sets, modeling gaze behaviors, and utilizing gaze information in various applications, with the goal of enhancing communication between these research areas. We discuss future challenges and potential applications that work towards a common goal of human-centered artificial intelligence.

Nanotechnology is a science concerned with the design, construction and utilization of functional structures with at least one characteristic dimension measured in nanometres. Nanotechnology initially developed in the fields of physics and chemistry, and most fundamental developments still occur in these fields. Nanotechnology also needs to be applied in areas such as the engineering field. Obviously, the application of nanotechnology to science and engineering has increased in other fields over the years. One area which is one of the most active research areas in the field of nanotechnology is civil engineering. This paper presents a broad overview of the application of nanotechnology in the civil engineering.

Recently, BIM (Building Information Modeling) became mandatory in Korea, and BIM started to be implemented in construction area. It is a design tool for maximizing the efficiency of design, construction, and maintenance throughout the entire lifecycle, but there are not many studies about the demolition wastes (DW) in the demolition stage. This study gathered basic data concerning the development of a database of DW disposed in the demolition stage using BIM-based building material database. For this, a BIM software, ARCHICAD, and construction material categories of the item list system of the PPS (Public Procurement Service) were analyzed to select major building materials. Based on the analysis, the disposal routes were analyzed considering the characteristics of DW. The database of DW was developed by examining the disposal routes of 52 major construction materials selected according to the characteristics of each material during demolition and selecting 7 major DW.

An evaluation is presented of past experience of dialogue and collaboration between ECVAM and the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA) over the last nine years. Lessons learnt from the viewpoint of EFPIA company representatives are given. Also, proposals for the future ECVAM approach are made, such as support for other research areas for new methods to be validated, giving realistic statements to ECVAM's European Union and external customers, and being open to any new technology development that might help in opening and establishing new alternative avenues. Finally, the need for proper publications on the implementation of alternatives is recommended, for example, through the existing national platforms and their umbrella organisation, ecopa.

In 2005 at the centennial anniversary of Fudan University, Shanghai, China, a new conference venue began [1]. This venue, the International Conference on Novel Materials and Synthesis (NMS) together with the International Symposium on Fine Chemistry and Functional Polymers (FCFP), is targeted to provide high-level academic exchange for both local and international chemists, materialists, physicists, engineers, and technologists in the fields of materials and synthesis. The year 2011 was the International Year of Chemistry, and it is well known that chemistry is an essential creative science for the sustainable development of humankind. As a result, the joint NMSVII/ FCFP-XXI event (www.nms-iupac.org), held in Shanghai, China, 16-21 October 2011, was more important than ever. The Conference received much support from IUPAC, The National Natural Science Foundation of China, Shanghai Key Laboratory of Molecular Catalysis and Innovative Materials, the Science and Technology Commission of the Shanghai Municipality, and the National Basic Research Program of China (2007CB209700), and was carried out under the auspices of IUPAC. The Conference was attended by 430 participants from 40 countries and areas. The scientific program comprised 10 plenary lectures, 56 keynote lectures, 206 invited lectures, and 94 posters. Detailed, active, and lively discussions were covered by the following themes: - innovative chiral and achiral compounds - innovative bio- and biobased materials and composites - innovative polymers such as conducting, semiconducting ones, supramolecular (supermolecular, dynamers) - innovative energy systems including fuel cells, solar cells, lithium batteries, and supercapacitors - innovative nanomaterials such as 1D, 2D, and 3D nanomaterials - new ceramic materials such as superconductors, electronic, diaelectronic, ferroelectric, piezoelectric, optoelectric, and magnetic materials - new metallic materials including alloys - other novel materials including drugs, perfumes, agricultural chemicals, and photosensitive materials, displaying materials and fine ceramics; and - neutron scattering and its application in fundamental and applied research on new materials. The program served to emphasize that novel materials and their preparation are dynamic research areas that are attracting growing interest from researchers, engineers, industries, and policy-makers. Furthermore, novel materials continue to find applications that serve the needs and interests of producers and consumers. A selection of 13 papers based on specially invited presentations at NMSVII/ FCFP-XXI is published in this issue to demonstrate the quality and scope of the themes of this Conference. During the Conference, the role and contributions of this high-level academic platform to novel materials and their synthesis are well realized by the participants, sponsors, and exhibitors. In addition, the organization committee established the Distinguished Award 2011 for Novel Materials and their Synthesis along with IUPAC; Prof. Guoxiu Wang (Australia), Dr. Dr. Fusayoshi Masuda (Japan), Prof. Dr. André-Jean Attias (France), and Prof. Bao-Lian Su (Belgium) received the award for their excellent work. The IUPAC Prof. Jiang Novel Materials Youth Prize was awarded to two winners, Prof. Zhibo Li (China) and Dr. Jr-Hau He (Taiwan, China), for the first time. This will next be awarded in 2013. SUMMARYThe Agricultural Technology Improvement Project (ATIP) has been conducting on-farm research in Botswana with the goal of identifying improved arable production technologies. In an effort to increase the role of farmers in technology design and assessment, ATIP set up farmer groups that meet on a regular basis to discuss farming problems and on-farm trials. This article reviews and evaluates ATIP's experiences with farmer groups. A typology of technology development groups is proposed and group management issues are discussed.

The article describes the process of formation and main stages of the Tourism Chair of the Ivan Franko Lviv National University. The authors described the basic research areas of the Tourism Chair in detail. The contribution each of the staff member is evaluated. The attention is drawn to basic scientific monographs, textbooks and books prepared by the staff of the Chair during last nine years.
