The article describes the process of formation and main stages of the Tourism Chair of the Ivan Franko Lviv National University. The authors described the basic research areas of the Tourism Chair in detail. The contribution each of the staff member is evaluated. The attention is drawn to basic scientific monographs, textbooks and books prepared by the staff of the Chair during last nine years. Background: Volodymyr Andriyovych Motornyi (1929–2015) is an outstanding Ukrainian Slavist, literary critic, culturologist, university lecturer, translator, diplomat, public figure. The scientific and pedagogical activity of the professor of the Department of Slavonic Philology at the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv is well known in the Slavic world. One of the most prominent representatives of Lviv Slavic studies, an active organiser of science, Professor Volodymyr Motornyi was a famous representative of Bohemistics. Along with Professor Kostiantyn Trofymovych, he launched the Ukrainian scientific school of Sorbian studies, actively studied and popularised the literature and culture of various Slavic nations. One can hardly overestimate his contribution to the development of Ukrainian science being a talented teacher who educated many generations of young Slavists, was a co-organiser of the Lviv International Slavic Colloquia, as well as numerous scientific and cultural events. Despite the existence of articles and reviews dedicated to Volodymyr Motornyi, the figure of the Professor deserves more detailed coverage and promotion of his creative heritage. Purpose: The article aims to introduce readers to a sort of the portrait of Professor Motornyi as a teacher and scholar; and given the scale of the scholar and the breadth of his interests, the authors have chosen the path of presentation of just a few aspects of his work. A special place is given to the combination of objective and subjective presentation of the Professor: the facts of the biography of the scholar are supplemented by the memories of the colleagues and students. Results: The article outlines the basic touches to the portrait of Professor Volodymyr Andriyovych Motornyi, a remarkable Ukrainian scholar, one of the most prominent representatives of Lviv Slavic studies. The key dates of the biography are given, the main directions of scientific, pedagogical, and creative activity of the Slavist are analysed. Memoirs of the colleagues – well-known scholars, former students and followers of the Professor – are an important element of the article. The article is currently the most complete and comprehensive presentation of the figure of the outstanding Ukrainian scholar, educator, organiser of science, intellectual and Teacher. The principles of scientific attribution of liturgical cyrillic manuscripts, which has been worked out by author, are examined. The thorough study of Jerusalem Ecclesiastic Typikon from the rare books and manuscripts department’s collection of Maksymovych Scientific Library of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv is conducted. The stages of manuscript attribution are analyzed, including the date identification and localization of its origins and use. The type and the title of the codex have been identificated by the analysis of book’s texts. The linguistic variant of Church Slavonic language, used for re-writing the copy, is revealed, which has helped to localize the place of creation. Detailed watermark analysis of paper, which the copy had been made of, has allowed to estimate date range of its production. The problematic ascertainment of the date of creation has been also supported by the analysis of the textual sources, studying of palaeographic peculiarities of cyrillic script book, the inner book’s decorative features. The problem of binding production date, its construction, materials and design, is formulated. The state of preservation of manuscript is analysed, which led the author to understanding the extent of book’s relevance for its readers. The history of manuscript restoration and its stages have been studied. The places of use and migration of the copy are revealed on the basis of provenance examination up till its arrival to Maksymovych Scientific Library’s rare books collection. In 2005 at the centennial anniversary of Fudan University, Shanghai, China, a new conference venue began [1]. This venue, the International Conference on Novel Materials and Synthesis (NMS) together with the International Symposium on Fine Chemistry and Functional Polymers (FCFP), is targeted to provide high-level academic exchange for both local and international chemists, materialists, physicists, engineers, and technologists in the fields of materials and synthesis. The year 2011 was the International Year of Chemistry, and it is well known that chemistry is an essential creative science for the sustainable development of humankind. As a result, the joint NMSVII/ FCFP-XXI event (www.nms-iupac.org), held in Shanghai, China, 16-21 October 2011, was more important than ever. The Conference received much support from IUPAC, The National Natural Science Foundation of China, Shanghai Key Laboratory of Molecular Catalysis and Innovative Materials, the Science and Technology Commission of the Shanghai Municipality, and the National Basic Research Program of China (2007CB209700), and was carried out under the auspices of IUPAC. The Conference was attended by 430 participants from 40 countries and areas. The scientific program comprised 10 plenary lectures, 56 keynote lectures, 206 invited lectures, and 94 posters. Detailed, active, and lively discussions were covered by the following themes: - innovative chiral and achiral compounds - innovative bio- and biobased materials and composites - innovative polymers such as conducting, semiconducting ones, supramolecular (supermolecular, dynamers) - innovative energy systems including fuel cells, solar cells, lithium batteries, and supercapacitors - innovative nanomaterials such as 1D, 2D, and 3D nanomaterials - new ceramic materials such as superconductors, electronic, diaelectronic, ferroelectric, piezoelectric, optoelectric, and magnetic materials - new metallic materials including alloys - other novel materials including drugs, perfumes, agricultural chemicals, and photosensitive materials, displaying materials and fine ceramics; and - neutron scattering and its application in fundamental and applied research on new materials. The program served to emphasize that novel materials and their preparation are dynamic research areas that are attracting growing interest from researchers, engineers, industries, and policy-makers. Furthermore, novel materials continue to find applications that serve the needs and interests of producers and consumers. A selection of 13 papers based on specially invited presentations at NMSVII/ FCFP-XXI is published in this issue to demonstrate the quality and scope of the themes of this Conference. During the Conference, the role and contributions of this high-level academic platform to novel materials and their synthesis are well realized by the participants, sponsors, and exhibitors. In addition, the organization committee established the Distinguished Award 2011 for Novel Materials and their Synthesis along with IUPAC; Prof. Guoxiu Wang (Australia), Dr. Dr. Fusayoshi Masuda (Japan), Prof. Dr. André-Jean Attias (France), and Prof. Bao-Lian Su (Belgium) received the award for their excellent work. The IUPAC Prof. Jiang Novel Materials Youth Prize was awarded to two winners, Prof. Zhibo Li (China) and Dr. Jr-Hau He (Taiwan, China), for the first time. This will next be awarded in 2013. The article contains a brief history of toponymical research in Ukraine. The reasons of the growing relevance of the question of space-toponymical inventory of forests in general and particularly in Kirovograd region are analysed and systematised in the article. The main toponymical research areas and the bibliography have been considered. The special attention is focused on the features of Kirovohrad region toponymy study. The problems of toponymical and spatial research of Kirovohrad region forests features are analysed. The methodology of carrying out space-toponymical inventory of forests was submitted. The different age’s maps and specialized cartographic works were investigated in details for gathering information discovering quantitative and qualitative changes in the system of drymonyms in research region. A large amount of lost and changed place names of wooded areas was restored. The obtained database of drymonyms has been analysed for detecting changed, varied and dual wood names and also saved authentic toponyms. The research data were presented in the detailed statistics on forests of Kirovohrad region and their names. The main space-toponymical features and trends of forested areas in Kirovohrad region were identified. The schematic map, that contains generalized information about spatial distribution of Kirovohrad region forests, there real outlines (by the moment of creating the map) and there toponyms – authentic and changed with references to information sources, was signed. Quality Assurance (QA) has a bad press in research circles. Fundamental researchers tend to consider that experienced scientists do not need any controls beyond their own integrity. This article attempts to show how QA can be applied even to the most original and basic research areas, and that there are benefits to the introduction of a formal system, provided all personnel are involved in the aspects that affect them.

Abstract PurposeThough literature related to Cushing's disease (CD) has grown significantly, previous reviews exclusively focused on specific research areas and were biased towards highly cited articles. This study aims to systemically analyze the research landscapes and trends using unbiased methods. MethodsWe queried all the CD-related publications in PubMed and clinical trials registered on clinicaltrials.gov. Latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA), a machine learning method, was used to derive research hotspots from article texts. The research topic clusters and country-level collaboration were revealed by network analysis.Results5015 articles were published since 1981, currently growing at 155 per year, with more retrospective studies but fewer prospective studies. Interestingly, the most popular LDA research topics were complications and comorbidities, endocrine hormone tests and surgical therapy, and they formed a remarkable triangle relationship in the research topic network. These topics had numerous international studies and were supported by most funding. In addition, many topics in the basic research domain were proliferating, including mutation, biomarkers, endopeptidases, and other molecular genetics and pathology of CD. Out of 63 registered clinical trials, over 25% were withdrawn due to inadequate patient recruitment or lack of funding.ConclusionsThis publication landscape analysis provided a systemic representation of CD literature regarding the history, current challenges, and future directions, enabling clinicians a rapid and comprehensive insight into the disease.

Abstract A brief narration on significant accomplishments in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) for basic research and aerospace application is attempted to highlight the outstanding achievements by scientists and engineers of this discipline. To traverse such a vast domain, numerous and excellent contributions to CFD will be unintentionally overlooked by the author’s limited exposure. Nevertheless it is an ardent hope that the present abridged literature review will aid to reaffirm excellence in research and to identify knowledge shortfalls both in aerodynamics and its modeling and simulation capability. The future modeling and simulation technology needs, as well as potential and fertile research areas, are humbly put forth for consideration.

The aim of this research is to reveal academics’ awareness, attitude, and use of open access. In line with the research purpose, the survey research design is adopted. This research consists 151 academics from 12 basic research areas; eight of them being Professor Dr, 17 being Associate Professor Dr, 49 being Doctor Lecturer, and 77 being Research Assistant or Lecturer. A questionnaire consisting of 19 open access and five demographic information questions was used for the data collection tool. The research results show that 75% of the academics have open access awareness and that their awareness is generally created by information that they obtain through the Internet and their friends. In addition, most of the academics indicate that their awareness of open access has increased during the pandemic period. When considering the level of academics’ use of open access, it is found that 75% of the academics use articles in open access journals for their own research and 51% of the academics do not publish any articles in open access journals.
