The paper investigates the critical role of organisational commitment between leadership style and employees’ performance. Generally, the relationship between leadership style and the organisational performance has been discussed widely but ignoring the employees’ performance. It has been accepted that the organisational commitment leads to higher employee performance but the existing literature has not focused much on this view. A conceptual model has been developed which links the constructs together. The model reveals the missing link of organisational commitment between leadership style and employees’ performance. The sample of 242 was collected from the managers and employees of manufacturing and service organisations. The finding confirmed that organisational commitment acted as a mediator between the leadership style and employees’ performance.

This paper aims to investigate the relationship between independent and dependent variables. First relation between transformational leadership and employee performance. The second relation discuss in this paper between transactional leadership and employee performance. Researcher dependent on previous studies to conduct this research. Based on the previous studies reviewed and discussed, the results showed that the transformational leadership style has weak positive role effect on the employee performance inside organisations that they work in. However, the result of previous studies on the transactional leadership style refers to the strong positive role on employee performance in organisations that they work in. Leaders have to enhance the role of transactional leadership styles in organisations that they manage them, to improve and develop the relationship between them and their subordinates in to increase the performance of their employee. Leaders should not follow the transformational leadership style because the results of previous studies are refer to a weak positive role on employee performance , and need more studies on transformational leadership to prove the role of it in different cultures and organisations. For further research in this scope, researcher recommended to conduct research in different cultures or organisations to determine leadership style has strong positive role on employee performance beside transactional leadership.

This study examined the influence of supportive and participative path-goal leadership styles, and the moderating role of task structure on employee performance of coffee trading companies in Kenya. The study was guided by the positivism philosophy and used a descriptive correlational research design. The population comprised 180 senior managers of coffee trading companies in Kenya, and a sample size of 139 was determined using stratified random sampling.  Primary data was collected using questionnaires. The response rate was 84%. The descriptive statistics were means and standard deviations while the inferential analysis included factor analysis, correlational analysis, chi-square, and regression analysis. Results of multiple linear regression analysis revealed that supportive leadership style did not significantly predict employee performance, R2= 0.001, F(1, 110) = 0.118,  p≤ .05, β = -0.040, p ≤ .05 but that participative leadership style significantly predicted employee performance, R2= 0.865, F(1, 115) = 735.111, p ≤.05, β = 0.943, p≤05.  Task structure was found to moderate the relationship between path-goal leadership styles and employee performance, R2= 0.094, F(5, 101) = 6.92, p ≤.05, β = 0.208,  p≤ .05.  The study recommends that leaders of coffee trading companies should apply a participative leadership style with their employees with constant communication and consultation in order to achieve optimal performance.
