AbstractPaclitaxel is an antineoplastic agent derived from the bark of the Pacific Yew Tree (Taxus brevifolia). Oral administration of the pure drug is problematic as it has a poor absorption due to its poor solubility in aqueous media. A specific water-soluble prodrug - PP7 - has been introduced by coupling the drug with a water-soluble polymer. For any kind of medical application and administration, knowledge of the binary isobaric phase-diagram is important since it gives information about solubility, phase transitions and the corresponding compositions. The system PP7 + H2O was studied calorimetrically from -20°C and shows the typical behaviour of an eutectic system. The properties of the phase diagram are discussed in view of other solution properties of the system presented earlier.

Ketoprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug with poor water solubility, so the absorption is less than optimal. One method to improve the solubility of ketoprofen is through the formation of multicomponent solid forms. The success of the formation of the multicomponent solid forms is strongly influenced by interactions between components in their solids. In this study, the analysis of the interactions in solid form of ketoprofen-coformers was carried out using the differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and hot stage microscopy (HSM) with adipic acid and isonicotinamide as coformers. From the experimental results, the mixtures of ketoprofen-adipic acid show a solid-liquid phase diagram that indicates a simple eutectic system with eutectic points on the molar fraction of ketoprofen 0.9 and temperature at 92.9 °C. The ketoprofen-isonicotinamide mixtures have a eutectic system with the peritectic point. The solid-liquid phase diagram has indicated that the ketoprofen-adipic acid in eutectic composition forms a miscible liquid phase without interaction in its solid form, whereas the ketoprofen-isonicotinamide forms a miscible liquid phase accompanied by interaction with the excess component. The results of the HSM analysis showed the same phenomenon as the result of the DSC experiment and have confirmed with the FTIR analysis

Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) was used to investigate the phase equilibrium in the AgCl- NdCl3 system. This binary mixture represents a typical example of simple eutectic system, with eutectic composition x(AgCl)=0.796 and temperature Teut = 668 K, respectively. The electrical conductivity of AgCl-NdCl3 liquid mixtures, together with that of pure components was measured down to temperatures below solidification. Results obtained are discussed in terms of possible complex formation.

In recent years, the steel industry has accumulated approximately 100 million tons of dust annually, severely threatening the environment. Rotary kiln technology is one of the main industrial methods used to process this dust. However, some substances in flue gas congeal on the cooling wall of the gas duct and seriously affect production. In this study, the properties and formation mechanisms of the coagulum were investigated on the basis of experimental and thermodynamic analyses. The experimental results showed that the coagulum is mainly composed of chlorides (KCl, NaCl, and ZnCl2), oxides (ZnO, FeO), and carbon, with three structures: lumps, fibers, and particles. Based on a thermodynamic analysis, a reasonable explanation was proposed to clarify the formation mechanism. The liquid phase (a eutectic system of KCl–NaCl–ZnCl2), dendrites (KCl, NaCl), and particles (ZnO, FeO, C) were found to act as binders, stiffeners, and aggregates in the coagulum, respectively, constituting a composite structure. Liquids acting as binders are essential for coagulum formation, and dendrites and particles strengthen this effect. Furthermore, the eutectic system of chlorides plays a crucial role in coagulum formation. The results of the present study offer a theoretical understanding of gas-duct coagulation and will provide guidance for adopting alleviation measures.

The equilibrium phase diagram and thermodynamic properties of a mixture of drugs and additives are information related to various possible interaction processes between components. Therefore, we conducted a study of the phase diagrams and thermodynamic properties of binary mixtures of ketoprofen-succinic acid to estimate the types of interactions that may occur between these materials. The solid-liquid phase diagram of ketoprofen-succinic acid binary mixtures was determined by differential scanning calorimetry and composition of eutectic system was determined accurately using a Tamman diagram. The measurement of binary mixtures of ketoprofen-succinic acid with differential scanning calorimeter obtained the value of melting temperature and heat of fusion of ketoprofen- succinic acid system. The solid-liquid phase diagram of ketoprofen- succinic acid showed the formation of eutectic type phase diagram. The Tamman diagram showed accurately composition of the eutectic system of the Kp-SA binary mixtures at the mole fraction of Kp 0.87 and temperature 96.9oC.Keywords: ketoprofen, phase diagram, eutectic system, Tamman diagram
