AbstractThe purpose of this study is to investigate and study the mechanical properties of polyethylene strukrur micro hybrid composites reinforced by fibers sisal and jute sacks.Preparation of composites by hand lay-up method with a ratio of fiber volume fraction of sisal and jute sacks 30%: 0%, 20%: 10%, 15%: 15%, 10%: 20%, 0%: 30%. With unidirectional sisal fiber orientation and fiber length random burlap gunny sack fibers 2 cm. Specimen testing is performed with a standard bending test ASTM D790, and microstructure.Test results obtained from the average bending strength of composites with high fiber volume ratio fraksin 30%: 0% is 74.43 Mpa. While the lowest average for bending strength found in composites with fiber volume fraction of 0%: 30%, the bending strength of 32.21 MPa. Therefore we can conclude the increasing volume fraction of sisal fiber with unidirectional fiber orientation, the higher the bending strength of its appeal and reverse the growing volume of burlap fibers with random orientation of the fibers feeding the lower the bending strength and the strength.

Five-layer biaxial weft knitted (FBWK) fabric is one kind of multilayered biaxial weft knitted (MBWK) fabric. FBWK fabric is made of carbon fiber as inserted yarns and stitched with polyester yarns, and it has been impregnated with epoxy via resin transfer molding (RTM) technique to manufacture the composite plates. The bending properties of the FBWK fabric reinforced composite are studied with the three-point bending test method. The bending properties of the FBWK fabric reinforced composite materials with different fiber volume fraction have been investigated. The results show that the relationship between bending load and deflection is obviously linear before reaching the maximum load. Within a certain range, the bending strength of this kind of composites increases with the fiber volume fraction increasing. When the fiber volume fraction is 57%, the bending strength is 1051.4 MPa.

Propagation of ultrasonic wave in Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) is greatly influenced by the material’s matrix, resins and fiber volume ratio. Laser ultrasonic broadband spectral technique has been demonstrated for porosity and fiber volume ratio extraction on unidirection aligned CFRP laminates. Porosity in the matrix materials can be calculated by longitudinal wave attenuation and accurate fiber volume ratio can be derived by combined velocity through the high strength carbon fiber and the matrix material with further consideration of porosity effects. The results have been benchmarked by pulse-echo ultrasonic tests, gas pycnometer and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). The potentials and advantages of the laser ultrasonic technique as a non-destructive evaluation method for CFRP carbon fiber volume fraction evaluation were demonstrated.

This paper studied the influence of fiber volume fraction ( V f ), fiber orientation, and type of reinforcement bar (rebar) on the uniaxial tensile behavior of rebar-reinforced strain-hardening ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC). It was observed that the tensile strength increased with the increase in V f . When V f was kept constant at 1%, rebar-reinforced UHPC with fibers aligned with the load direction registered the highest strength and that with fibers oriented perpendicular to the load direction recorded the lowest strength. The strength of the composite with random fibers laid in between. Moreover, the strength, as well as the ductility, increased when the normal strength grade 60 rebars embedded in UHPC were replaced with high strength grade 100 rebars with all other conditions remaining unchanged. In addition, this paper discusses the potential of sudden failure of rebar-reinforced strain hardening UHPC and it is suggested that the composite attains a minimum strain of 1% at the peak stress to enable the members to have sufficient ductility.

Through the three-point bending test on the specimens of steel fiber reinforced high strength concrete (SFHSC), the effects of influencing factors including water-cement ratio (W/C) and the fiber volume fraction (ρf) upon the critical value(JC) of J integral were studied. The results show that the variation tendencies of JC are different under different factors. JC meets the linear statistical relation with W/C, ρf, respectively.

This is to support the use of composites that are friendly to the environment and reduce the use of pollutant synthetic fiber composite materials. The research objective was to analyze the mechanical properties of natural fiber composites with environmentally friendly coconut fiber as material. The research method of making fiber-reinforced composites from coconut coir was carried out by 15% NaOH treatment for 5 hours and a fiber volume fraction of 10%, 15%, and 20%. Composite fiber from coconut coir with UPRs 157 BQTN matrix with MEXPO hardener. Mechanical testing is carried out using the ASTM D790 standard and the impact test using the ASTM D5941 standard. The impact test of natural fiber composites showed the impact toughness of the composite at a fiber volume fraction of 20% with a value of 0.017588 J/ mm2. The test results showed an increase in volume fraction and an effect on the increase in the bending strength of coconut fiber composites with the optimum bending strength at a fiber volume fraction of 10% with a value of 44.33N /mm2. This shows that the increase in fiber volume fraction by immersion in 15% NaOH will increase the bending mechanical properties and the impact of the composite. Soaking NaOH has an effect on the absorption power of coconut coir on the Unsaturated Polyester matrix which can increase the adhesion between the fiber reinforcement and the matrix thereby increasing the bending mechanical properties and impact of the composite.
