Developing the next version of Windows or Office is easy for Microsoft, but the company has struggled when it comes to more radical innovation. Intense competition from Google, Apple, and others threatens a business model that has delivered tremendous success over 25 years. This case highlights the strategic challenges facing Microsoft and provides insights into the organizational, leadership, and operational issues that must be addressed in order to define a successful innovation strategy at one of the world's most well-known companies.

Introduction. Successful innovation and competitiveness of a modern enterprise depends on the understanding of its owners and management of the directions of its development in the future, which should be summarized in the innovative strategy. The problem of developing an effective innovation strategy is especially important for small and medium enterprises. Wrongly chosen approaches to the selection of an innovative project can not only cause losses, but also jeopardize the entity’s ability to continue as a going concern. Purpose. The purpose of the article is to study modern scientific and methodological approaches to the formulation of the concept of "innovation strategy", the order of its development in enterprises and substantiation of the author's approach to the formation and analysis of innovation strategy of small and medium enterprises. Methods (methodology). The methodological basis of the study is a comparative analysis and theoretical generalization of scientific approaches to determining the content of the innovation strategy of the enterprise, logical-structural approach to the formation and analysis of the innovation strategy of small and medium enterprises. Results. As a result of comparison of existing approaches to development of innovative strategies, research of their classification, factors of influence on success of realization of the enterprise's innovative strategy, stages of its formation and features of the most known concepts of creation of the innovative strategies the authors formulated a logical-structural approach to the formation and analysis of the innovation strategy of small and medium enterprises. It is determined that for medium and small enterprises at the present stage it is necessary to assess the external threat of suspension of activities due to the announcement of quarantine.

Research background: At the current global market environment, innovations are perceived as a driving force of economic development and a basic prerequisite for competitiveness. Worldwide-level discussions are related to topics regarding knowledge-based economy development, financing and innovation management mechanisms, research and development support, international cooperation, all supporting the fact that innovations are a significant prerequisite to fulfil goals of sustainable development of the society Purpose of the article: The primary goal of the paper is to define the key dimensions of a successful innovation strategy ensuring competitiveness and growth in a global market. These are reference characteristics enabling comprehensive consideration of the conditions of the external and internal environment in which the innovation strategy will be formed and implemented. The issues in question determinants will be investigated and evaluated at theoretical level, then practical, scientific and application approach as well as management aspect. Methods: Ambition of the authors is to use theoretical knowledge, results of systematic research, experience and publication activity outputs to create an informative scientific platform dedicated to elimination of “white areas” in the field of innovation strategies (innovation management) with possibility of implementation in company practice. There was apply several suitable methods of scientific research (formal logics methods: analysis, synthesis, deduction, induction, comparison, abstraction). Autor skoncentrował uwagę na analizie najlepszych praktyk przodujących polskich regionów (województw) w tej dziedzinie. Zarysował również koncepcję poszukiwania nowego modelu regionalnych strategii innowacji w Polsce.

Subject. This article discusses the development of a differentiated strategy of innovative development taking into account the distinguishing features of Russia's regions. Objectives. The article aims to improve the effectiveness of innovative development strategies for Russian regions, which vary in the level of science, technology, and innovation capacities. Methods. For the study, we used statistical, and economic and mathematical methods, normalization principle, the methods of comparative, and expert and sociological analyses, foresight techniques, and original region assessment techniques. Results. The article presents certain criteria for differentiation of Russia's regions, taking into account the level of development of scientific and technical activities, and it proposes three modifications of the regional innovation strategy, corresponding to the main types of Russian regions by scientific and technological development. Conclusions. A differentiated approach to a regional innovation strategy development can improve the efficiency and targeting of government innovation policies by making better use of available resources.

Small and Medium Enterprises and Indonesian Cooperatives (SMESCO) are strategies in promoting and introducing Indonesia's superior products to the international community. Through SMESCO, SME owners can work together on standardization of SME products, SME quality standardization and at the same time a forum for fostering SMEs to market their products, through human resource development programs including seminars, training, workshops and product introduction through online shops and mentoring programs. The research aims to prove and analyse the influence of: innovation strategies on the performance of SMEs in SMESCO Indonesia directly or through competitive advantage; innovation strategy towards competitive advantage; competitive advantage towards the performance of SMEs at SMESCO Indonesia. The research population is all SME companies that partner with SMESCO Indonesia. Sampling is done by probability sampling with a simple random sampling method. Data analysis using Structural Equation Modelling-Partial Least Squares, a sample of 147 small and medium business owners at SMESCO Indonesia. The results of the study prove: (1) The innovation strategy does not directly have a significant effect on the increasing performance of SME companies in SMESCO Indonesia but has a significant effect through competitive advantage; (2) Competitive advantage has a significanteffect on the increasing performance of SMEs in Indonesia.
