The boundaries of the Galician and Volyn lands in different historical epochs changed significantly: they widely included adjacent territories, then they outlined the limits of only one historically original region. This article examines the decorative and applied art of the Galicia-Volyn principality during its stay in the Kyiv state and is associated with the dominance of Byzantine traditions, which were later enriched with their own characteristics. This phenomenon determined the uniqueness of the culture of Galicia and Volyn. The work is intended to give a slice of the current state of the study of the issue, including the authors' own findings and attributions made during their direct activity in this scientific field.

Coleus amboinicus Lour., Lamiaceae, is a perennial herb that is native to Indonesia and also cultivated in Africa, Asia and Australia. The major phytochemicals responsible for its bioactivity are rosmarinic acid (RA) and its analogues, flavonoids and abietane diterpenoids. The possibility of cultivation in a colder climate would extend the use of this herb and provide new opportunities to herb growers and livestock farmers. Our study to compare feed value and phytochemical composition of C. amboinicus plants cultivated in its original region, Indonesia, and in Poland. The crude protein content was significantly higher in plants cultivated in Indonesia compared to those cultivated in Poland—21% and 13% of dry matter, respectively. The higher ADF contents were detected in C. amboinicus cultivated in Indonesia, 38–41%, in comparison to 34% in plants cultivated in Poland. The phytochemical composition was also significantly influenced by the cultivation location. Polish samples were higher in polyphenols (RA and its analogues), and also had 1.5–2-fold higher antioxidant potential, as measured by DPPH scavenging, phosphomolybdenum reduction and Fenton reaction driven lipid peroxidation. The Indonesian samples contained more diterpenoid compounds, such as dihydroxyroyleanone, and the sum of terpenoids was ca. 10 times higher than in samples from Poland (15.59–23.64 vs. 1.87 µg/g of extracts). In conclusion, C. amboinicus is suitable for cultivation in non-optimal climatic conditions but some nutritional properties and bioactivity are significantly affected.

Subject. This article discusses the development of a differentiated strategy of innovative development taking into account the distinguishing features of Russia's regions. Objectives. The article aims to improve the effectiveness of innovative development strategies for Russian regions, which vary in the level of science, technology, and innovation capacities. Methods. For the study, we used statistical, and economic and mathematical methods, normalization principle, the methods of comparative, and expert and sociological analyses, foresight techniques, and original region assessment techniques. Results. The article presents certain criteria for differentiation of Russia's regions, taking into account the level of development of scientific and technical activities, and it proposes three modifications of the regional innovation strategy, corresponding to the main types of Russian regions by scientific and technological development. Conclusions. A differentiated approach to a regional innovation strategy development can improve the efficiency and targeting of government innovation policies by making better use of available resources.

This study aims to find an optimal model for the development of regional potential owned by Maybrat Regency, West Papua Province, to increase local revenue for its people's welfare. Qualitative methods are used in this research using a post-positivism paradigm design, which seeks to reveal a social reality that ontologically can never be fully understood due to the limitations of human nature. The results show that the regional potential optimization model in Maybrat Regency is different from other regions because Maybrat Regency has special autonomy, which provides the broadest possible opportunity for local governments to manage all the potential to increase local revenue. The increase in the original region requires the support of political stability, availability, and quality of human resources, the quality of supporting facilities to create a good investment climate. This paper presents a Benefit Incidence Analysis for Higher Education public expenditure in 2000 and 2004, in Spain. As databases, the European Community Household Panel (ECHP) 2000 and the Living Conditions Survey (EU-SILC) 2004 are used. In this study, new and interesting methodological issues are introduced when applying the Benefit Incidence concept. In this sense, different equivalence scales are considered; besides, imputed expenditure is adjusted, taking into account different university education fields, gender issues and students’ original region. Results are offered following a double regional and national perspective, showing that this expenditure is more progressive and redistributive in Spain in the new millennium rather than during previous decades.

This paper draws upon ethnographic field research on the transmission of the Afro-Brazilian religion of Candomblé in two contrastive contexts: Recôncavo da Bahia and Berlin. Whereas in the religion's original region, Bahia, people are immersed in what can be considered a universe of orixás – Candomblé’s West-African deities –, in Germany, a country with almost no references of the tradition, a context must be created for its practice. In this sense, technology, and especially the internet, should facilitate the transmission of Candomblé by displaying cultural references, from videos of rituals to lyrics of orixás songs, and connecting migrants and foreigners to its symbology, myths, songs and dances despite the physical distance from Brazil. Paradoxically, although in Bahia technology is considered an additional tool for learning, in Berlin, where references lack, it is a kind of taboo, bringing about controversies in the transmission of knowledge. While unveiling different modes of learning Candomblé’s bodily knowledge, this paper seeks to demonstrate through this paradox the intricacies of practical learning as well as of the interrelation between practice and discourse.

A streak artifact is an anomaly seen in the CT image of the brain. It is like a dark bands or streaks appearing in an image that is not present in the original region. The appearance of these artifacts leads to misinterpretation of medical diagnosis. Under sampling, photon starvation, motion and beam hardening are some of the reasons for occurrence of streak artifacts. These type of artifacts commonly occur in the posterior fossa of the brain. This paper mainly focuses on region shape and texture identification and removal of streak artifacts exists in the brain image. Initially morphological operators and fuzzy k-means algorithms are used to identify the different regions in the CT brain image. Each region is treated as a single image and features are extracted for each image. The feature descriptors are constructed using region properties and statistical features. The extracted features are compared with threshold brain image to identify the dark bands of streak artifacts.
