During the last few decades, various theoretical developments have been carried out with a view to describing the characteristic and distinct behavioral process that lies under any adoption of technological services and products. These developments are based mainly on the Social Psychology approach. There are three extensive theories within the field of Social Psychology whose ultimate purpose has been to define the internal psychological factors that explain human behavior: the Expectancy-Value Theory, the Cognitive Dissonance Theory, and the Self-Perception Theory. While the Expectancy-Value Theory has been used widely in the research of adoption and usage of information systems, the other two theories have been less recognized.

With the dramatic recent changes in Chinese society, Chinese college students’ average levels of loneliness and social support might also have changed across their birth cohorts. The present cross-temporal meta-analysis of 56 studies ( N = 21,541) found that Chinese college students’ scores on the UCLA Loneliness Scale (Version 3) increased gradually from 2002 to 2011. The increasing trend in loneliness occurred among both men and women. Another similar meta-analysis of 110 studies ( N = 57,420) showed that Chinese college students’ scores on the Social Support Rating Scale decreased from 1999 to 2011, with a slightly larger shift occurring among college men. The increase in loneliness across birth cohorts among Chinese college students was associated with the decline of their perceived social support levels (especially objective social support).

We investigated the relationships between students' social media use, engagement, and academic performance, proposing that student engagement would mediate the social media use–academic performance relationship. Using survey data from 307 Chinese college students, we found that student engagement played a mediating role in the link between social media use and academic performance. In addition, the results show that the direct effect of social media use by college students on their academic performance was nonsignificant. Our results contribute to knowledge of the relationships between social media use, student engagement, and academic performance in a Chinese higher educational context. They also provide educators with meaningful implications for improving students' academic performance. Future directions for research are discussed.

We explored the impact of optimism on social creativity and the mediating roles of hope and creative self-efficacy(CSE) in this relationship. Participants were 766 college students at 8 universities in China, who completed the Social Creativity Questionnaire for College Students, the Life Orientation Test-Revised, the Adult Dispositional HopeScale, and the Short Scale of Creative Self. The results showed that optimism was not a significant predictor of the social creativity of college students, but its effect could be indirectly predicted through the individual mediators of CSE and hope,as well as the chain mediating effect of CSE and hope. Thus, we can conclude that optimism, CSE, and hope influence the social creativity of Chinese college students.

This article gives a brief theoretical view on the implementation of PAD-based instruction in Chinese college students爷English language learning. And then it informs the readers of the rise of PAD-based instruction, including the three phases of PAD-based instruction in English language learning. Finally, the article focuses on a theoretical view on PAD-based instruction, including the view of the social constructivist theory, the view of the collaborative learning theory and the view of the sociocultural theory. A brief theoretical view on PAD-based instruction in the article will help readers understand how the theories are fundamentally employed to carry out the procedures of PAD-based instruction in English language learning amongst Chinese college students.
