Alcohol related health challenges have lingered over the years. Such associated with locally brewed alcoholic beverages have received little attention. The urgency to explore this becomes imperative. This study aimed at evaluating the effect of regular consumption of local alcoholic beverages on the estrous cycle and histological image of the ovaries and uterus thus fertility of female albino rats. Thirty screened female albino rats weighing 180-220g were divided into five groups and daily administered each with 10ml/kg of pito, burukutu, ogogoro, goskolo and 0.5ml/kg normal saline respectively for 21 days. Effect of the beverages on the estrous cycle as well as histopathological evaluation was carried out on the isolated ovaries and uterus. Results showed significant increase proestrous phase of the estrous cycle with ingestion of pito, burukutu, ogogorogo and goskolo. Also the histology of the ovary was basically without obvious pathological changes with pito, while there was alteration of histological parameters by burukutu, marked with formation of fibrosis, corpus luteum cyst resulting immature ovarian follicle, ogogoro marked with formation of fibrosis, corpus luteum cyst resulting immature ovarian follicle and goskolo marked with formation of multiple follicular cyst resulting in complete collapse of the ovarian section. The effect of traditional alcoholic beverages revealed the classical effects of alcoholic drinks by way of significant alteration in the estrous cycle of albino rats with marked alteration of the histological architecture of ovarian tissues. Pito, burukutu, ogogoro, and goskolo have a reprotoxic effect on the ovaries and uterus thus a deleterious effect on fertility of female albino rats.

Relevance of the study. Benign ovarian tumors (hereinafter referred to as BOT) and tumor-like lesions of the ovaries are an acute problem in gynecology, since they develop mainly in women of childbearing age (75-87%) and cause a decrease in reproductive potential. The aim of the study was to study the structure of the BOT and tumor-like lesions of the ovaries, to identify defects in the treatment. Research materials: in compliance with the legislation on the protection of personal data, with the preservation of medical secrecy, the medical records of 350 women who underwent inpatient treatment in 2017-2020 in the gynecological department of Maternity Hospital No. 3 in Tyumen were studied. Results of the study. Only 151 (43%) patients were admitted with complaints, the main complaint was nagging pain in the lower abdomen. The structure of the pathology: corpus luteum cyst – 95 (27%), follicular cyst – 63 (18%), benign endometrioma – 77 (22%). More rare cases: benign cystadenoma – 36 (10%), paraovarian cyst – 30 (9%), benign teratoma – 28 (8%), paratubar (inflammatory) cyst – 21 (6%). There were no statistically significant differences in the frequency of localization (right, left ovaries). The accuracy of ultrasound diagnostics was 99%. Conservative treatment was used in 89 (56%) patients with tumor-like ovarian formations (follicular cyst, corpus luteum cyst). The gynecological history of patients is characterized by a high frequency of inflammatory diseases of the pelvic organs, including chronic salpingo-oophoritis (22%), chronic metroendometritis (10%), inflammatory disease of the cervix (27%). The infertility rate was 7%. Normal CA-125 values were in 83%, increased in 17%. In the tactics of surgical treatment of various forms of BOT and tumor-like lesions of the ovaries, laparoscopy (73%) and Pfannenstiel laparotomy (25%) prevailed. Conclusion. The corpus luteum cyst and follicular cyst are the most frequent nosological form of pathological processes of the ovaries, they require careful diagnosis and, if necessary, the timely appointment of conservative treatment. Surgical treatment in the absence of indications for that or due to inappropriate therapy at the prehospital stage is considered as a defect in the provision of gynecological care.

The article concerns the counterfeiting problem of non-alcoholic drinks sold on the consumer market of the Russian Federation; provides data on drinks fraud methods (assortment, qualitative, quantitative and informational types). Strengthening quality control of soft drinks is one of the main directions of providing consumers with qualitative products. The authors presented authenticity identification results of carbonated soft drinks sold on the Kemerovo consumer market for compliance with the current regulatory documents requirements; run the consumer criteria analysis for the drinks identification of various brands. They obtained data on the labeling and packaging identification of selected non-alcoholic carbonated drinks samples for the compliance with current regulatory documents. A man recorded the compliance. There was an absence of the quantitative counterfeiting identification. The study described results of the organoleptic and physico-chemical quality indicators research. According to the GOST 28188-2014 “Non-Alcoholic Beverages. General Technical Conditions” the authors evaluated beverages quality by such physical and chemical indicators as the mass fraction of dry substances, acidity, and the mass fraction of carbon dioxide. The researchers run the organoleptic indicators analysis according to a score system. Authenticity identification of the selected drinks samples showed that there are no signs of counterfeiting and the products are of high quality.

Abstract Background The consumption of red meat should not surpass 500 g of cooked weight per week. Regular consumption can exceed this recommendation, increasing the risk of chronic diseases. Objective Estimate the prevalence of the regular consumption of red meat according to health behaviors in Brazilian adults (≥18 years). Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted with data from the 2013 National Health Survey, which is a household inquiry with a representative sample of the population ≥18 years of age. The regular consumption of red meat (beef, pork, goat) was defined as ≥ 5 days/week. Prevalence ratios (PR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were estimated according to health behaviors (healthy and unhealthy eating patterns, smoking, practice of physical activity during leisure and alcohol intake). Results A total of 60,202 adults were interviewed, 52.9% of whom were women and mean age was 42.9 years (95%CI: 42.6-43.2). The prevalence of regular red meat consumption was 36.7% (95%CI: 36.0-37.5) and was higher among those who ingested soft drinks/artificial juice (PR = 1.08) and sweets (PR = 1.05) ≥3 days/week, ingested beans (PR = 1.07) and raw vegetables (PR = 1.03) ≥5 days/week, ingested fatty meat (PR = 1.09), smokers (PR = 1.05), individuals who were inactive during leisure (PR = 1.04) and those who consumed alcohol ≥2 times/week (PR = 1.06). The prevalence was lower among those who ate fruit (PR = 0.99) and chicken (PR = 0.95) ≥5 days/week, those who ate fish (PR = 0.90) at least 1 day/week and those who drank no fat/low fat milk rather than whole milk. Conclusions The regular consumption of red meat was higher among individuals who ingested unhealthy foods more often, those who ingested fatty meat, smokers, those who ingested alcoholic beverages and those who did not practice physical activity. Actions are needed to reduce the frequency of red meat consumption. Key messages Regular consumption of red meat can exceed the recommendation of 500 g of cooked weight per week. The regular consumption of red meat was associated with the more frequent ingestion of unhealthy foods and fatty meat.

The scale of caffeinated drinks offered for young adults is large and also is the risk for abuse followed by heart or brain injuries due to high levels of caffeine, taurine, sugars etc. For this purpose, we chose to evaluate the risk behaviors in a group of Mures medical students and assess their practices and knowledge of excess caffeine drinks intake. For this study, we used a food frequency questionnaire containing 26 questions related to personal data, food behaviors, types of food and drink consumed and the frequency of consumption. The questionnaire was applied to 427 Mures medical students in 2016. On average, 2/3 of the Mures medical students associate an excess of coffee, energy drinks and other types of caffeinated beverages, especially during the exams period. From the list of preferred drinks that our students chose, in descending order, are: coffee, carbonated beverages, alcoholic beverages and energy drinks. Students often turn to alcoholic drinks, sometimes in combination with energy drinks, raising the risk for their health. 25% have only coffee in the morning, on empty stomach, skipping breakfast. More than half of them have at least 3 coffees per day, with possible health impact on long term. Our data emphasizes once more the importance of health education in schools and universities, especially for medical students and future doctors, and the need for efficient community interventions in order to prevent lifestyle behaviors at risk.
