Code switching and code mixing have become a trend in teenagers’ communication today. Not only in communicating, code switching and code mixing also influence the author’s style in writing novels. However, recently, it is not easy to define which is code switching or code mixing because the occurrence of the codes is very tight recently. The characters in the novel often do codes at least Indonesian-English. The objectives of this study are to find out the form of codes and the sociolinguistic features of the characters in Refrain novel. This research uses descriptive qualitative design from collecting the data until analyzing them. The result of the analysis yields some forms of codes spoken by the characters in the novel. The forms are sentence, clause, phrases like noun phrase & verb phrase, and words like noun, verb, adjective, & adverb. The other problem indicating their social background reflects the sociolinguistic features of the characters. They are education, family, friendship, and occupation.

The aims of this study are to describe and explain the form of code switching and code mixing, to identify the factors of code switching and code mix and to identify the purpose and function of code switching and code mixing in the Acehnese students in Yogyakarta. This is descriptive qualitative research by sociolinguistic approach. The method used in this research is observation method and record technique. The data of this research are the speechs of Acehnese students who are studying in Yogyakarta which contains of code switching and code mixing. Data were identified and classified and then analyzed by existing sociolinguistic theory.The results show that: first, the form of code transfer in Acehnese student communication in Yogyakarta includes the switch of code from Acehnese Language to Indonesian and the switch of code from Indonesian to Aceh; second, the form of mixed code in the form of insertion of words, phrases, and clauses; third, the factors of code switching and code mixing are speakers, participants, third speakers, speech mode and discussion topics; fourth, the purpose and function of code switching and code mixing in the Acehnese students are to familiarize the situation, to make a sense of humor, to look prestigious, to respect the other person and to tell the secret.Key words        : Code Switching, Code Mixing, Sociolinguistic

Abstract: The novel “Honest of Fault” is the novel that bring the readers have to know the codeswitching and code mixing in the text of it. The author more often shown the code mixing thatbased on Fasold and Dell in her text. Code switching and code mixing are contained in every sceneand the author likes to be switching the text from other languages, likes Betawi language in novel.This research is descriptive qualitative, that use the method of content analysis which is describingthe data from sources and the novel itself. From the reduction results by classifying code switchingand code mixing, it was found that there was a lot of code mixing in the text of the novel Honest ofFault rather than code switching. Analysis of code switching and code mixing in this novel is oftenfound to be coded because the author deliberately uses foreign phrases that are more familiar andeasier to understand by readers than using their mother tongue or Indonesian.Key Words: code switching, code mixing, novel.

The results of the study showed that in the Solar Storm novel, there were seven quotes fromthe Code and nine quotes from the Code. This study is aimed to describe code mixing facts or presence in the novel Celebrity Wedding by AliaZalea.  In fact, there are a lot of factors that influence people using code mixing, to mention one or two, can be due to someone’s bilingualism or multilingualism condition. The writers use descriptive and content analysis method to analyze the forms code mixing, the types of phrases and compound of code mixing found in the novel Celebrity Wedding. The (English) data taken from the Novel are phrases, compounds. The writers then identified, collected, sorted and classified all the data, and made the analysis to find and determine the types of the phrases and the forms/types of modifiers present in the novel itself.  From the result of analysis/discussion there are more Noun Phrase Types than Verb Phrase Types. There are five Noun Phrases containing premodifiers and four postmodifiers five containing both premodifiers, the dominant modifiers are Adjective followed by Noun the Preposition Phrases.

<em>Code switching and code mixing are the strategy of adapting two languages in a speech. The objective of this research is to find the reason why the characters switch or mix their speaking. Revealing and classifying the kinds of code switching and code mixing are also the aim of this study. The writer chooses novel as the object of this study because the characters of this novel are bilingual who are able to speak more than one language. The type of this research is library research. Therefore, in conducting this journal, descriptive qualitative is used as the method of the analysis. The writer collects data by reading the novel, and marking them to make it easier to analyze. The result of this research points out that code mixing is frequently used by the character in the novel. The writer has collected about five kinds of code switching externally and ten kinds of code mixing. Further result, they are five kinds of internal code mixing, and five kinds of external code mixing, and the rest, there are five of external code switching. They tend to choose lexical items that are appropriate from the language where their repertoire is more comprehensive</em>

Untuk mengumpulkan data, penelitian ini menggunakantiga metode: observasi, rekaman, dan wawancara. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 15 orangbersuku Jawa yang berumur 20-60 tahun. Data dalam penelitian ini adalah rekaman wawancarapara subjek dan rekaman percakapan para subjek yang terdapat tuturan code mixing. The aim of this paper is to report the observation findings of foreign language beliefs and behaviors among three communities of English speaking communities’ specific of their cultural identity. The study used descriptive qualitative design since the author wants to describe the phenomenon happened in this study. Three English speaking communities were taken as the data; first, Krismit whatsApp group conversation; second, a private whatsApp conversation between two non-native speakers; third, a classroom talk. Those data were taken from the author’s cellphone, then the chats were exported, transcribed and analyzed well through their beliefs and behaviors specific of their cultural identity. The findings of the present study indicate that the awareness of using English pattern in two communities needs to be more highlighted, while the other community revealed the cultural matter in the form of expressions. Therefore, teachers’ and educators’ big effort in decreasing this issue is crucially needed.

The study was conducted in order to describe the forms and the functions of code-switching and code-mixing in drama performance of ALE of the students of ICP batch 2017. The study was descriptive qualitative research. The data are collected by observation and documentation in the drama performance in Art and Language Exhibition ‘Prahara Ing Argabelah’. The finding shows that 24 unit analysis of code-switching found 6 used tag-switching, 15 used inter-sentential switching, and 3 used intra-sentential switching. Furthermore, 27 unit analysis of code-mixing performed 21 intra-sentential code mixing, 5 intra-lexical code mixing, and 1 involving a change of pronunciation. Then, from 24 unit analysis of code-switching, the researcher found six functions in the drama conversation. There are 6 addressee specifications, 2 repetitions, 7 interjections, 1 message qualification, 2 personalization and objectivizations, and 6 facilities of expression. Moreover, the researcher just found 3 functions from 27 unit analysis of code-mixing. There are 1 repetition, 2 message qualifications, and 24 facilities of expression.
