With this article we intend to show the policy adopted by the king Fernando VII regarding to the restitution of the artistic patrimony confiscated to the religious communities during the Independence War’s conflicting years, as well as the part played in this process by the Real Academia de San Fernando. When the project of founding the Museo Fernandino failed, the Academy, receiver of many of the paintings dispersed during the French Government, tried to increase his pictorial collection to the detriment of their legitimate proprietors, although laws promulgated from 1814 favoured the works of art were recovered by the religious establishments. In the case of the Hospital de la Caridad of Seville, the Academy kept paintings until the 20th century, based on the agreement of the clergymen with the French.

A dictionary born old. Legitimization and delegitimization of the Second Spanish Republic. The controversy following the recent publication of the Spanish Biographical Dictionary by the Real Academia de la Historia is here analysed. Many entries about the 20th century in Spain highlight the questionable aspects of a cultural project that derives from a public usage typical of the past concerning the legitimization and delegitimization of the Second Spanish Republic.

Thanks to its Architect Commission the Real Academy of San Fernando was basic to the ulterior development of the academic thought. The main object of the investigation is based on the study of the three theatre projects censored by that Commission. The significance of the plans and manuscripts is important because they show documentation unknown nowadays about the theatres planned in Spain in the Nineteenth Century and because they contain the architectural ideas of the Academy. We must point out the advanced ideas of the Academy in this context because it tried to resolve the architectural group appropriately to its function.

Hans-Georg Beck (1910-1999), the most outstanding 20th-century German Byzantinist, has gone a long way from a Benedictine monk to professor in Munich, a creator of a comprehensive conception of Byzantine general and cultural history. The problems of ecclesiastical history and theology were in the center of his scientific activity from its first steps on. As a student of Martin Grabmann, a prominent historian of Western scholasticism, Beck appropriated the Thomist view of theology. That is why he denied the real distinction between essence and energies in God, which had been disclosed and analyzed by Gregory Palamas. If in his first 1935 article, The Struggle for the Thomist Concept of Theology in Byzantium, Beck criticized Palamism «from outside», i. e., from the neoscholastic viewpoint, it was later then, in his secular thesis of 1952, that the German scholar tried to censure the Palamite doctrine «from inside» by making the case of its incompatibility with the Chalcedonian Orthodoxy.

This article is a study of literature describing religious harmony: the relevance of Article 25 of the Medina Charter and Article 29 of the 1945 Constitution. The Medina Charter was made in the 7th century (classical century) and Article 29 of the 1945 Constitution was born in modern times, around the 20th century. Both have relevancy which states that every citizen is free to adhere to their respective religions. The plurality of society in Indonesia has similarities and differences from the plurality of society in Medina around 622 AD. The stability and harmony of religious communities in the Medina at that time was regulated in the Medina charter which is the constitution of the Medina state. Harmony among religious communities in Indonesia is also an important concern of the Indonesian government as stipulated in Article 29 of the 1945 Constitution. Freedom of religion is guaranteed by the state because the state believes that religious diversity is not a disintegrating factor for the Indonesian people.

This paper deals with cartographic depictions of religious facilities and cemeteries in Bosnia and Herzegovina on cadastral maps created during the Austro-Hungarian administration. It shows how cartographic depictions of these plans changed over time, based on collections of topographic symbols published in the late 19th and the early 20th century. Relevant cartographic sources depicting religious buildings were identified and collected through analysis of genuine archival documents, i.e. relevant cartographical sources of different scales and types. The research of the materials resulted in a scientific description of the most important aspects of religious facilities belonging to different religious communities in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

This chapter introduces and diagnoses the inadequacy of two prima facie plausible, but ultimately inadequate, arguments for the discontinuity thesis based on framing effects. The chapter then develops and defends a more powerful argument in discontinuity’s favor based on the functions of fictions. The chapter also looks at what turns on the debate between continuity and discontinuity, i.e., what consequences its resolution on the side of discontinuity has for the experimental study of the emotions; the role of responses to works of art as evidence of moral character; and the putatively edifying value of engaging with fictions in educating and refining attitudes about the real world.
