BACKGROUND Due to the strict nationwide COVID-19 comprehensive protective measures, which included home quarantine, all Chinese medical students began taking online classes beginning in the spring semester of 2020. Home quarantine, online classes, and the stress surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic may have triggered increased mental health problems of medical students. Although there has been an increasing literature on depression among medical students, studies focusing on positive psychological resources such as resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic still need to be expanded. OBJECTIVE The present study aims at assessing depression of medical students taking online classes during the COVID-19 pandemic and investigating the role of coping styles as a mediator between resilience and depression. METHODS A cross-sectional study of 666 medical students with stratified sampling in Shenyang, Liaoning Province in China was completed between March 20th, 2020 and April 10th, 2020. The participants responded to a self-administered smartphone-based questionnaire which included Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire (SCSQ), and Ego-Resilience scale (ER-89). Hierarchical linear regression and structural equation modeling (SEM) were used in this study. RESULTS The prevalence of depression in the participants was 9.6% in this study. Regression analysis revealed that grade (the year in which the medical student was in their training), how well they adapted to online classes, their levels of resilience, and their coping styles were independent predictors for depression. Resilience and positive coping style were negatively related to depression and negative coping style was positively related to depression. SEM showed that the effect of resilience on depression was partially mediated by coping styles. CONCLUSIONS It was found in the present study the prevalence of depression was slightly low and coping styles mediated the association between resilience and depression among medical students during COVID-19, which was of significant implications for further study. Future studies and interventions are supposed to be aimed at improving resilience and promoting positive coping style.

Her-2 (ErbB-2) is an oncogene frequently overexpressed in breast and gastric adenocarcinomas, and anti-Her-2 targeted therapy can be given to such patients. Her-2 overexpression and role of anti-Her-2 targeted therapy in cases of gallbladder adenocarcinomas (GBC) are still debatable. Scoring protocols for Her-2 expression in breast and gastric carcinomas are standardized, however, not for carcinomas arising in other body organs like the gallbladder. This study is conducted to evaluate the expression of Her-2 in patients with GBC, which may benefit from targeted therapy. It is a cross-sectional study conducted on patients with GBC (n=63; 53 women and ten men). An automated immunohistochemical technique was used with an anti-ErbB2 antibody. Scoring was conducted according to the CAP (College of American Pathologists) criteria for breast cancer. Positive (3+) Her-2 staining was observed in 8/63 (12.7%). Nine cases (14.3%) showed equivocal staining (2+) pattern. All of the tumors showing Her-2 overexpression were moderately differentiated. This study indicates that a significant number of GBC cases show Her-2 overexpression. This subgroup may benefit from inhibitors of the Her-2 pathway. Standardization of scoring protocol for Her-2 expression in GBC is needed to better evaluate the predictive potential of Her-2 for the treatment of these tumors.

Abstract Objective: The study objectives were to trace a linkage between Early Maladaptive Schemas (EMS) and Violence against Women (VAW) in this specific Lebanese patriarchal context while undertaking this research on a larger scope of those Lebanese women who don’t have a choice to act against Violence. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study that was conducted on Lebanese women between September and December 2018. Participants enrolled in this study were from all of Lebanon's governorates and selected using an equitable representative sample. Results: Being divorced (Beta=12.11), having a partner addicted to substance (Beta=9.64), to alcohol (Beta=5.03), to gambling (Beta=4.78), have a history of threats, violence, assaults and crimes (Beta=8.45), higher child physical abuse scale (Beta=1.58), higher child sexual abuse scale (Beta=3.77), higher child psychological abuse scale (Beta=0.25), higher Stressful life experiences (Beta=0.24), higher social isolation (Beta=0.43), higher emotional deprivation (Beta=0.42), higher subjugation (Beta=0.31) and higher failure (Beta=0.52) were significantly associated with greater partner physical and non-physical abuse. Conclusion: This current research suggests a positive correlation between violence against women and the activation of early maladaptive schemas.

Background: Recently it has been apprehended that sildenafil, a drug which has been successfully using in the treatment of PPHN and erectile dysfunction in adult, is going to be withdrawn from the market of Bangladesh due to threat of its misuses. Objective: The aim of this study was to see the extent of uses of sildenafil in the treatment of PPHN and importance of availability of this drugs in the market inspite of its probable misuses. Methods: This cross sectional study was conducted in neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), special baby care unit (SCABU) and cardiac intensive care unit (CICU) of Dhaka Shishu (Children) Hospital from June, 2017 to May 2018. Neonates with PPHN were enrolled in the study. All cases were treated with oral sildenefil for PPHN along with others management according to hospital protocol. Data along with other parameters were collected and analyzed. Results: Total 320 patients with suspected PPHN were admitted during the study period. Among them 92 (29%) cases had PPHN. Male were 49(53 %) cases and female were 43(47%) cases. Mean age at hospital admission was 29.7±13.4 hours. Based on echocardiography,13(14%) cases had mild, 38 (41%) cases moderate and 41(45%) cases severe PPHN. Mean duration of sildenafil therapy was 11.9±7.1 days. Improved from PPHN were 83 (90%) cases. Mortality was 10% (9). Conclusion: In this study it was found that the incidence of PPHN is 29% among the suspected newborns. Sildenafil is successfull in improving the oxygenation of PPHN and to decrease the mortality of neonates. DS (Child) H J 2019; 35(2) : 100-104
