The article discusses the main provisions on the selection and application of technology strategy at the corporate level and in particular business settings. Based on the in-depth analysis of international best practice, it is argued that a technology strategy is part of an overall comprehensive strategy that penetrates into all other strategies of a company strategic set and sets an imperative for innovative development in the market. Apparently, in some cases, a company business strategy actually makes its competitive management plan. Diversified companies run their own corporate strategies by a synergistic combination of different business strategies along with taking into account the specific coordination strategy, diversification or restructuring of company portfolios, if such exist. It is proved that technology vision, which entails technology policy and related objectives, drives the implementation of a company technology strategy and is a key determinant of company success on the market. It is also argued that the core of technology management concept is full harmonization of technology and the overall business strategy. The study has revealed that the aim of technology strategy is a competitive technology edge which means gaining specific outcomes needed to consumers. A focus on technology strategy and efficient embodiment of decisions are particularly important for technology-intensive types of production. However, time and financial horizons in conventional business realia promote such level of competition that allows for creating new exclusive competitive advantages which is a synergistic formation of new qualities based on extensive experience of many managers.

This paper focuses on analysis of and suggestions for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) orientation during the closedown process. The article addresses CSR considerations that adjust business strategies, which in turn change the Human Resource Management (HRM) focus. Our study focuses on four best practice cases in Sweden, which are compared with three reported cases in the literature. All four best practice cases had a long notice period and socially responsible coordination of management and employees, which created adjusted corporate strategies. Three cases had the CSR orientation in the earliest stage, while the fourth case had this coordination during a later stage of the closedown process. We develop a model where we show that the scope for action increases if the CSR orientation and coordination of actions come early in the closedown process, due to the increased ability to adjust the business strategy and create a plan for outreach HRM activities and local community activities.

This research explores the phenomenon of firm performance as it relates to the business strategy, characteristics of Chinese Family Business (CFB) in Hong Kong's Electronic Companies, and technology strategy adopted by these firms. The motive to do this research is that there has been very little work on business strategy in export-oriented "developing economies - latecomer economies" as referred by Zahra and Covin (1993). There has also been little work on technology policy/strategy in Hong Kong, although there have been many suggestions that Hong Kong firms "need" to change and up-grade their business strategies. Added to this, Hong Kong firms have interesting characteristics (Chinese Family Business, CFB), which may be related to their business and technology strategies. Performance may be determined by the strategies they adopt. In this research, the key dimensions of "technology strategy/policy" are identified, including Imitation, Original Equipment Manufacturing (OEM) and Original Design Manufacturing (ODM), which are important in Hong Kong, but which have not been explored much in the literature. Hong Kong firms were selected in this topic since as China is found to become the world's manufacturing base and a lot of that industry, especially in Electronics Industry that this is an important topic.

This study aims to evaluate the suitability of business strategies and Information Technology (IT) strategies at Universitas Negeri Gorontalo (UNG) with COBIT 5 best practices. Researchers observe how UNG is planning business strategies and IT then compared with the best COBIT practice 5. The method used in this study is qualitative which includes interviews with interested parties and document studies related to business strategies and IT strategies. The model used is COBIT 5 in the APO domain APO02 process which consists of 31 activities and, SCAMPI (Standard CMMI Appraisal Method for Process Improvement) as a valuation method. The results showed that the alignment of business strategy and IT strategy in UNG had approached the process of alignment of business strategy and IT strategy in COBIT 5. Another important thing found in this study was that planning activities for aligning business strategies and IT strategies at UNG had almost approached. COBIT 5 best practice, however, does not guarantee that overall business and IT activities at UNG are aligned, this is evidenced by the finding of 3 processes that have major weaknesses because there is no activity or evidence of practices carried out referring to COBIT 5.

Changes in the business environment requires that a company adopts a more adaptive strategy. A business strategy is not just about planning, but it needs to be supported with meaningful information. Management accounting complements a business strategy by providing crucial information, not just limited to cost efficiency, but customer satisfaction and quality management. However, the adoption of management accounting practices (MAPs) is believed to be influenced by strategy. Using the Miles and Snow (1978) business strategy typology model, this study examined the influence of business strategy on the adoption of MAPs, focusing on how the different types of business strategies used in organizations may influence the adoption of MAPs. Data was collected from manufacturing companies in Malaysia. The result showed that most Malaysian manufacturing companies utilized three major classifications of strategies, i.e., defender, prospector, analyzer, and only a few were classified as reactors. The result showed that the adoption level of both traditional and advanced MAPs is also high. Findings from this study indicated an influence of the defender and analyzer types towards adopting traditional MAPs, whereas the prospector type had influenced the adoption of advanced MAPs. Keywords: management accounting practices, business strategy, defender, prospector, analyzer, reactor

Crisis, in whatever form it takes, is a challenge for modern business. The challenge lies in the fact that a company is prepared to balance the difficult conditions that are created, while preserving their business interest and efficiency. Thus, companies focus only on their perceived fixed bases, those that are in the internal environment such as the human capital. The need for better human resource management is more urgent than ever, and the burden on the business department is particularly great. The aim of this qualitative research is to highlight the strategies that were developed by agri-food companies in Greece and contribute to the maintenance and motivation of employees in the context of economic crisis. The methodology of this study is based on in depth interviews that were conducted in focus group discussion. Eleven companies from the agri-food sector in the region of Central Greece participated in the research. The executives highlighted three different strategies that were developed by agri-food companies in Greece, which focused on internal mobility, training and appraisal performance. Companies had to face different difficulties to use these strategies, but most of them proved that they can face their weaknesses and apply these strategies in a turbulent period like a financial crisis.

This qualitative study examines the digitisation of HRM in a cloud-based environment. The influencing factors for the transformation from conventional HRM to eHRM are examined with a special focus on the success factors from a strategic to the operational level. Additionally, an in-depth analysis of the currently existing and new HR metrics which emerge during the transformation takes place. The study is based on interviews with HR experts with extensive experience in transforming and working with the new technology. Active participation of the HR department is relevant for the success of the digital transformation HRM project. HR metrics have not been applied extensively so far and are used less for controlling and optimizing HR processes. New metrics would increase the acceptance of the new technology and thus the success of the overall HR transformation. The main contribution is related to the field of HR software adoption of cloud-based solutions.

In an era of increasing energy production from renewable sources, the demand for components for renewable energy systems has dramatically increased. Consequently, managers and investors are interested in knowing whether a company associated with the semiconductor and related device manufacturing sector, especially the photovoltaic (PV) systems manufacturers, is a money-making business. We apply a new approach that extends prior research by applying decision trees (DTs) to identify ratios (i.e., indicators), which discriminate between companies within the sector that do (designated as “green”) and do not (“red”) produce elements of PV systems. Our results indicate that on the basis of selected ratios, green companies can be distinguished from the red companies without an in-depth analysis of the product portfolio. We also find that green companies, especially operating in China are characterized by lower financial performance, thus providing a negative (and unexpected) answer to the question posed in the title.
