It is shown that vibroabrasive treatment of hardened titanium alloy specimens contributes to an increase in their durability. This effect is explained by the removal of a defective surface layer containing microcracks and subject to the influence of residual tensile stresses. It is shown that the proposed stage of vibro-abrasive processing with ceramic granules makes it possible to almost completely remove iron introduced after vibro-impact surface hardening, which makes it possible to exclude the operation of etching in nitric acid from the technological process. The current state of research on durability in world science is briefly presented.

The investigating results are given for the periclase-chromite refractories' composition and structure which are in contact with the pulverized coal and gas medium in the coppersulfide smelting furnaces. The high-temperature burnt copper concentrate and the sulfur dioxide gas suspensions combined action changes the surface and deep refractories layers chemical composition, with that the impurities content reach the value in weight percent: Fe 54,0, Cu 7,2, Zn 6,4, S 1,8. The refractory's surface layer saturation with the iron and non-ferrous metals oxides decreases the porosity and gives rise to low-melting compositions and eutectics. The refractory decomposition is induced by the shelling of the refractory surface layers with the filled porous taking place in course of the heating-cooling cycling because of the phase's thermal linear expansion coefficients. When the spent refractory disposal, it is feasible to separate mechanically the surface layer for the non-ferrous metals extracting, the rest part can be used for obtaining the refractory powder of various purpose.

Solid powder boriding experiment was carried out on TC4 titanium alloy surface with method of RE(rare earth)-boriding at the temperature of over 1000°C. By means of XRD, SEM and EDS, phase composition, microstructure and morphology of TC4 titanium alloy after RE-boriding were investigated. The effect of rare earth on phase composition was discussed. Results of the experiment showed that the diffusion layer was composed of top-layer TiB2 and sub-layer TiB whiskers with the highest thickness being 25μm. The XRD results revealed TiB-TiB2 biphasic B-Ti compounds layer formed on the surface of TC4 after RE-boriding. The high content of B and Ce in the surface layer showed rare earth increased the absorption and concentration of B atoms.

In this work the analysis of thermal diffusion of boron carried out from vapor phase was performed. Two-branch diffusion associated with kick-out and substitution mechanisms was observed. The activation energy and prefactor were calculated from Arrhenius plot for each diffusion branch. It has been established that the surface layer of diffused boron mostly consists of shallow boron acceptors, while the tail of the diffusion profile has mostly deep level D centers.

The influence of the parameters of laser processing of copper plating deposited by explosion welding and subsequent rolling on the titanium surface on the structure and phase composition of the coatings is studied. It is shown that alloying titanium with copper leads to the formation of intermetallic compounds (titanium cuprides) in the remelting zone, which contributes to a significant increase in the wear resistance of the surface layer. When tested for wear on a fixed abrasive, the wear resistance of the coating is 2 times higher than that of VT1-0 titanium alloy.

The investigation results of technological conditions impact at multiaxes deep grinding upon quality of titanium alloy blade surface layer in the compressors of gas turbine engines (GTE) are presented. The grinding mode impact upon a surface and a value of residual stresses in a surface layer of blades is defined and also conditions for defect occurrence as burns on blade surfaces under machining are detected.
