This study was conducted to determine the actual position of political syar'iyyah from the perspective of Islam and its practices in the context of the state of Kelantan, especially in the field of art and entertainment. The study also followed up with the state government and police of the arts, as well as reforms carried out from 1990 to 2015. The focus of this research focuses on the application of the basic arts and entertainment through the enforcement of the Control of Entertainment and Places of Entertainment 1998, Cultural Performance Guidelines (entertainment) Act 1998 and Control of Entertainment Enactment 2003, which became the main purpose of the exercise of political syar'iyyah. Analysis carried out on the action and reform the state government to the arts by syar'iyyah political perspective. The study employs a library and analysis of official documents such as circulars, news, enactment and guidelines issued by the state government. The study found that ijtihad and reforms undertaken during the period managed to bring about change and give the benefit to the community in Kelantan. It is hoped that this study can contribute to the enrichment of the cultural heritage of the Malay Muslims in accordance with the tenets and formation syar'iyyah political capital of the arts and entertainment that coincide with Islamic law. We hope this study will help art researchers in the future. Keywords: Siasah syar'iyyah, Arts, Policy, Kelantan, Entertainment     Artikel ini bertujuan membincangkan konsep siasah syar‘iyyah, sejarah perkembangan kesenian, polisi kerajaan Kelantan terhadap siasah syar‘iyyah dan pelaksanaannya di negeri Kelantan. Secara khusus, fokus kajian ini dilakukan bermula semasa pemerintahan TGNA pada tahun 1990 sehingga sekarang. Kajian berbentuk analisis dokumen ini bersandar kepada pemerhatian terhadap dokumen rasmi kerajaan seperti surat pekeliling, warta, enakmen dan garis panduan yang dikeluarkan oleh kerajaan Kelantan. Selain itu, data-data kajian juga turut disokong oleh pelbagai literatur lain seperti buku-buku ilmiah serta    wacana-wacana ilmiah yang berkaitan.  Hasil kajian mendapati tindakan dan pembaharuan yang dilakukan oleh kerajaan Kelantan dalam bidang siasah syar’iyyah adalah berdasarkan al-Quran dan al-Sunnah serta ijtihad. Terdapat beberapa pembaharuan yang dianggap sebagai pra syarat untuk mengadakan sesuatu persembahan kesenian serta beberapa contoh perubahan dalam kesenian yang dipersembahkan di Kelantan selepas tahun 1990 hingga sekarang telah menunjukkan perubahan yang sangat ketara. Pelaksanaan dasar kesenian dan hiburan ini berjaya memberi kemaslahatan kepada rakyat, dan dalam masa yang sama ia juga berjaya mempertahankan beberapa nilai kesenian lama yang tidak bertentangan dengan Islam. Selain itu terdapat juga beberapa persembahan kesenian yang diberi roh Islam dari sudut pelaksanaannya untuk menjadi santapan hiburan terhadap masyarakat. Kajian ini menyumbang kepada pengkaryaan khazanah seni dan hiburan Islam, menjadi model terhadap pelaksanaan hiburan dan selain itu ia dapat membantu para pengkaji seni untuk menambahkan ilmu dalam bidang kesenian Islam.   Kata kunci: kesenian, hiburan, enakmen, ijtihad dan maslahah

Contemporary warfare has been significantly transformed by the promotion and implementation of unmanned aerial vehicles (or drones) into global military operations. Networked remote sensory vision and the drones’ capability to carry deadly missiles entail and facilitate increasingly individualised, racialised, and necropolitical military practices conceptualised as ‘surgical strikes’ or ‘targeted killings’, all in the name of ‘counterinsurgency’. In the absence of publicly accessible documentations of ‘drone vision’, images of drones themselves constitute what is arguably one of the most contested iconographies of the present. The ethical and legal problems engendered by the virtualisation of violence and the panoptical fantasies of persistent vision and continuous threat interfere with the commercial interests and the publicised ideas of ‘clean’ warfare of the military-industrial-media complex. Drones have become a fetishised icon of warfare running out of human measure and control and are henceforth challenged by activist strategies highlighting the blind spots and victims of their deployment.

Many techniques exist for 3D digitization of cultural heritage objects. Paintings, manuscripts, and other near-planar objects are especially challenging to digitize because of their minute surface variations. Of the existing techniques, fringe projection profilometry (FPP) is one of the most promising approaches for measuring the surface shape of such objects. In practical implementations of FPP, one needs to understand and control various sources of error due to system hardware and environmental conditions. It is difficult to find information on this in one place in the literature, which discourages application of the technique. In this paper we present a practitioner’s guide to phase-shifting fringe projection profilometry that covers critical but often omitted implementation details required for successful application of the technique.

World War II in the Philippines was as much a treacherous mind game as it was physical. While it brought almost total devastation to the cultural heritage bequeathed by the country’s colonial past, it sought to create, albeit in the spiritual-emotional realm, a template of Asian-ism that the Filipinos were to live by as a supposed member of the Imperial Japan-colonized Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere. Songs, organizations, programs, speeches, religion and many other activities and things that could be used to sway the Americanized Filipino psyche were employed in this devastating “game of thrones”. This study questions how music and related propaganda materials were used to pacify and control the conquered Filipino nation. Music, to a degree, was symptomatic of the progress of the occupation, from the initial settling down of the Japanese soldiers to the seemingly quiet acceptance of many locals in occupied areas. In these stages of the war, imposed music crept into the consciousness of the conquered—from Japanese children’s songs at the basic education level to the concert platforms with music composed by Filipino musicians heralding the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity theme.

The potential of IoT applications is now recognized, namely the use the IoT as a technological solution for societal challenges such as in health, education, industries, tourism, agricultural, and for this chapter concern, in cultural heritage dissemination. This chapter presents the different evolutionary phases of IoT and its different generations, first-generation experienced embedded things, second-generation a complex social web of things, and third-generation experience the autonomous social objects and cloud computing. This chapter analyzes the characteristics of IoT, for example interconnectivity, intelligence, heterogeneity, safety, monitoring and control, big data and analytics, information sharing and collaboration. Furthermore, this chapter describes the different usage of IoT scenarios applications in some specific areas, such as agriculture, cultural heritage, and tourism.

An innovative methodology is proposed, based on applied biotechnology to the recovery of altered stonework: the “dry biocleaning“, which envisages the use of dehydrated microbial cells without the use of free water or gel-based matrices. This methodology can be particularly useful for the recovery of highly-ornamented stoneworks, which cannot be treated using the conventional cleaning techniques. The experimental plan included initial laboratory tests on Carrara marble samples, inoculated with dehydrated Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast cells, followed by on-site tests performed on “Quattro Fontane” (The Four Fountains), a travertine monumental complex in Rome (Italy), on altered highly ornamented areas of about 1,000 cm2. The mechanism is based on the spontaneous re-hydration process due to the environmental humidity and on the metabolic fermentative activity of the yeast cells. Evaluation by physical-chemical analyses, after 18 hours of the biocleaning, confirmed a better removal of salts and pollutants, compared to both nebulization treatment and control tests (without cells). The new proposed on-site dry biocleaning technique, adopting viable yeast cells, represents a promising method that can be further investigated and optimized for recovering specific altered Cultural Heritage stoneworks.

A specific European standardisation activity in the field of conservation of cultural heritage is essential to acquire a common unified scientific approach to the problems relevant to the preservation and conservation of the cultural property. The scope of CEN TC 346 is to establish standards in the field of the processes, practices, methodologies and documentation of conservation of tangible cultural heritage to support its preservation, protection and maintenance and to enhance its significance. This includes standardisation on the characterisation of deterioration processes and environmental conditions for cultural heritage and the products and technologies used for the planning and execution of conservation, restoration, repair and maintenance.  Up to now sixteen EN standards were published according to a matrix-based method in which three main topics have been developed. First is dealing with general guidelines and methodology. Second topic is regarding Evaluation of methods and products for conservation works. The work was focused on a general draft “Surface protection for porous inorganic materials-laboratory test methods for the evaluation of the performance of water repellent products”. The evaluation is based on the measurements of different parameters appropriate to assess the performance of the product using standardized and reproducible methods. Third topic is regarding Indoor/outdoor climate-Specifications and measurement. The purpose of the work was to develop standards and recommendations relating specifically to the climate and its influence on the preservation of heritage. Standards developed will assist professionals involved in environmental diagnostics and in the investigation and control of the climate for preventive conservation and maintenance. The assistance includes the choice of methodologies and instruments and the interpretation of results.
