Broomcorn millet (Panicum miliaceum L.) is one of the earliest domesticated cereals worldwide, holding significant agricultural, historical, and evolutionary importance. However, our genomic knowledge of it is rather limited at present, hampering further genetic and evolutionary studies. Here, we sequenced and assembled the chloroplast genome (cp) of broomcorn millet and compared it with five other Panicoideae species. Results showed that the cp genome of broomcorn millet was 139,826 bp in size, with a typical quadripartite structure. In total, 108 genes were annotated and 18 genes were duplicated in the IR (inverted region) region, which was similar to other Panicoideae species. Comparative analysis showed a rather conserved genome structure between them, with three common regions. Furthermore, RNA editing, codon usage, and expansion of the IR, as well as simple sequence repeat (SSR) elements, were systematically investigated and 13 potential DNA markers were developed for Panicoideae species identification. Finally, phylogenetic analysis implied that broomcorn millet was a sister species to Panicum virgatum within the tribe Paniceae, and supported a monophyly of the Panicoideae. This study has reported for the first time the genome organization, gene content, and structural features of the chloroplast genome of broomcorn millet, which provides valuable information for genetic and evolutionary studies in the genus Panicum and beyond.

The Russian reader, who doesn’t know tatar language, can get to know A. Yeniki’s works only through their translated versions, that is why we need to analyze structural features of and the content of the translated texts in the aspect of cross-literary communication and dialogue. Jenre-stylistic transformations of the authentic work in the translated texts are revealed on the base of their comparative analysis. The base is his view on the translation as a form of the dialogue of cultures, reflecting interaction not only various national languages, but artistic models of the world as well. It is stated that, S. Khozinaresorts to the nazira genre in her translation of the “Unspoken will”. The main directions in which the cooperation of the translator and the author of the work is carried out are revealed: depiction of the inner world of the character is changed; the lyrical orientation of the narrative is enhanced; philosophical subtext of the told story is actualized, incriminating tendency deepens. The results obtained can be used in the solution of current problems of intercultural communication and the dialogue, in the preparation of the comments to translations of A. Yeniki’s works for the Russian reader.

The systematization of planetary rotary hydraulic machines (PRHM) with floating rollers is presented in the article. This systematization is carried out according to such structural features as: the number of waves that have central tooth gears with internal and external teeth, the character of the leading link motion; selection of a supporting (fixed) link; selection of the link containing the channels. The systematization allows us to list all essentially different schemes of PRHM and conduct their comparative analysis. The comparison is based on such technical parameters as: symmetry of schemes; absence of dead spots; PRHM performance, pulsation of instantaneous performance; channel cross-sectional area. The comparison showed that based on a set of indicators, the schemes with the numbers of central wheel waves 2×4; 4×6; 6×8 are preferred, in which the rotor performs a purely rotary motion.

The work is devoted to the comprehensive comparative analysis of extraction cakes, obtained after isolation of pharmaceuticals from medical herbs (Aconítum leucostómum, Thermopsis alterniflora, Glycyrrhiza Glabra and Vinca erecta) to characterize their composition and structural features of components, that is necessary for following valorization and for evaluation of extraction efficiency. Application of analytical pyrolysis to analysis of the medical herbs’ residues allowed to avoid disadvantages, connected with preparative isolation of components and get integral information about phytomass constituents and their transformation during extraction. The results have shown that aconite and licorice roots extraction cakes can be considered as perspective raw material for the chemical and biological processing for obtaining of carbohydrates-based products, whereas the periwinkle grass waste is perspective source for obtaining of aromatic and phenolic products. The data of the analytical pyrolysis indicate the сompleteness of biologically active compounds extraction from licorice roots. Extraction cakes of aconite, thermopsis and periwinkle grasses contained different amounts of unextracted targeted pharmaceutical compounds, which can increase their value.

We have recently identified a novel protein named hornerin, the structural features of which are most similar to those of profilaggrin, an essential protein for keratinization of epidermal tissues. In this study we examined the expression of hornerin compared with that of profilaggrin in various mouse tissues. Hornerin was expressed in the upper epidermis of newborn mouse skin, as was profilaggrin. In addition, both hornerin and profilaggrin were expressed in the tongue, esophagus, and forestomach. In all four tissues, immunostaining for hornerin and profilaggrin showed a granular pattern, and most of the signals for the two proteins were co-localized on keratohyalin granules. This was confirmed by double immunoelectron microscopy. Within keratohyalin granules, hornerin was detected more frequently in the periphery, whereas profilaggrin was equally distributed. A quantitative RT-PCR revealed that both genes were expressed at highest levels in the forestomach and at the next highest levels in skin. Profilaggrin mRNA was most abundant in the forestomach. In skin, the amount of hornerin mRNA was more than fourfold greater than the amount of profilaggrin mRNA. These results form the basis for a better understanding of possible overlapping and/or differential functions of hornerin and profilaggrin.

Local sectors of vibrant civic community news sites are important for journalism to improve and communities to thrive. In this study, we examine the news ecologies of four metropolitan regions, Chicago, Seattle, Minneapolis, and New York City, to explain which structural features of the local news environment can make or break civic news websites. Based on a Qualitative Comparative Analysis of 137 cases, we conclude that the most significant contributors to sustainability are connection to a postsecondary institution and location within a news network. We suggest how foundations and others can direct their efforts for increasing sustainability.
