This study is identifying the most appropriate communication medium to communicate with local people by Arun-3 Hydropower Project (AHPP) especially focusing on the project construction phase.  Since, the study is focused on the construction period when chances of misunderstanding, miscommunication, and other conflicts between project-affected people and the project, will be high due to higher incidences of social and environmental issues.  This study was completed by applying mix method of research where quantitative research was conducted through a survey among local people of Makalu Rural Municipality (MRM) of Sankhuwasabha and a case interview was done with the chairman of the same Rural Municipality. The study has revealed that local radios and public meetings are the most recommended mediums that participants expected to support the project in properly disseminating project-related information to local people. This article suggests that AHPP should disseminate information about project activities mainly through local radios and public meetings. This study also concludes that the project developer is not providing sufficient information about project activities to local people, which is also a source of misunderstanding between the two sides.

Since reform and opening, water conservancy and hydropower construction industry become more competitive. Water conservancy and hydropower project construction involve a wide range, which is an extremely complex and comprehensive process. It coupled with the production flow of water conservancy and hydropower projects, structure type, quality requirements, construction methods, construction period, and the natural conditions in different situations, which all directly affect the construction quality of the project. This article outlines the construction of water conservancy and hydropower project management features, and discussed ways and means of quality control.

Evaluation of slope stability in the hydropower project construction is extremely important. This Cloud Model will be introduced to the matter-element extension, the extension assessment is proposed based on the sutra field division of the slope stability assessment model. This method combines the Cloud Model theory and the advantages of the extension assessment .On the one hand, the division of the sutra field by means of Cloud Model can overcome the "hard" division of the evils. On the other hand, with different values of Cloud Drops as a sutra field, the statistical results of Cloud Drops can be used as last stable assessment results. Project case study shows that compared with the conventional method, results of the method of extension are more accurate, which fully accorded with the actual state, proving optimized based on Cloud Model extension assessment of slope stability feasible and effective.

This paper proposes a novel U-shaped steel-encased concrete composite beam-girder joint (referred to herein as the novel composite beam-girder joint), in which the U-shaped beams at two sides (L and R) are inserted into a shaped sleeve, and the U-shaped girder and two U-shaped beams are connected by the shaped sleeve through welding. Compared with the traditional beam-girder joints, the novel composite beam-girder joints take advantage of easy construction, light weight, and short construction period. The failure patterns, load-strain and load-deflection curves, and strain distributions of the novel composite beam-girder joints were investigated through the static loading tests on two full-scale specimens, denoted as GBJ1 and GBJ2. The two specimens were varied in beam section reinforcements. Specimen GBJ2 was equipped with 3Ф16 additional bars in the U-shaped beams based on Specimen GBJ1. Test results show that the two specimens failed as the through arc cracks developed at the concrete slab interfaces. The additional bars can increase the bearing capacity slightly but will also increase the stress concentration on the bottom flange of the shaped sleeve, leading to the decrease of ductility for Specimen GBJ2. The slab effect is considered in the test and can thus reflect the actual stress state of the beam-girder joints well. This study can provide a reference for the design and application of beam-girder joints.

Purpose This study aims to increase the understanding of the pregnancy-related information behavior (IB) of pregnant women in Estonia. Design/methodology/approach The research involved a quantitative research methodology consisting of a semi-structured questionnaire. Data was collected from pregnant Estonian women through a self-administered Web-based questionnaire using a convenience sampling during the period from January to February 2019. A total of 300 pregnant women answered the questionnaire. The data were analysed using statistical analysis and the results of the study were compared with the results of previous studies. Findings The three topics on which information was most frequently sought were: fetal development, use of medicines during pregnancy and symptoms of pregnancy. The main sources of information were the internet and the midwife. The most reliable and valuable source of information was a midwife. Health-related information was sought mainly because it helped women make decisions related to pregnancy and childbirth. A number of factors facilitate the information seeking process. In addition, widespread access to the internet and technological skills facilitated IB. The following factors hindered the search for information: the controversy and/or ambiguity of information published on the internet and the time spent searching for information. Most women used wearable technologies during pregnancy. Research limitations/implications This study has several limitations. First, the weakness of online surveys is the potential lack of representativeness, as it excludes from the survey those who do not have access to or ability to use the internet for various reasons (Evans and Mathur, 2005; Limbu et al., 2021). Second, as most recruitment for the study took place online, there was a risk that those who did not use the internet could be excluded from the survey. Third, as the questionnaire was also shared in the Facebook news feed by the Women’s Clinic and Maternity Hospital of the East Tallinn Central Hospital, it may be that the respondents recruited through it more often used the support provided by medical professionals. Fourth, due to the volume limits of the study, it is not possible to present all the results of the study on the basis of socio-demographic characteristics and stage of pregnancy. Therefore, the findings cannot be generalized to the broader population and future studies should explore a larger and more representative populations. Practical implications This study will give some useful information to help to improve the services offered for pregnant women in Estonia. Social implications The findings of this study may inform how to better support this target group. Originality/value There is a lack of research in Estonia that focuses on the IB of pregnant women and this research fills this gap.

In the field of hydropower project, the overabundance of information from multiplex data sources has forced managers and decision makers to spend much time dealing with information they need. Therefore the research on project simulation system is quite necessary. If system can provide some construction plan and schedule of the project properly, it will greatly improve the effectiveness of the plan. After the analysis of specific projects’ process and demands, this paper puts forward a visual simulation solution to large-scale hydropower construction, which including visual simulation model, design of algorithms and system implementation. Based on SOA structure, the optimization model and the simulation results’ 3D visualization are provided and a virtual three-dimensional world of the complicated coordinal construction process is proposed, with the advantage of direct viewing and real-time interactive, facilitating effective technical support for the decision of project construction design, and greatly enhancing the information level of design and organization of large-scale hydropower projects.

According to the water environment protection requirements for the Expressway Project of Qiandao Lake Area, this research combines on-site investigation with experimental detection and analysis to sort out the pollution generation link during the project construction in a systematic and comprehensive manner, analyze the source of construction sewage and wastewater, proposes special measures for sewage and wastewater treatment in the production at the precast mixing plant, bridge construction and tunnel construction. The research has achieved the goal of satisfactory sewage discharge and zero sewage discharge in the construction area, effectively ensured the safety of the water environment in the lake area during the project construction, and laid a solid foundation for Qianhuang Expressway to become a “Green Highway” demonstration project initiated by the Ministry of Transport.
