Evaluation of slope stability in the hydropower project construction is extremely important. This Cloud Model will be introduced to the matter-element extension, the extension assessment is proposed based on the sutra field division of the slope stability assessment model. This method combines the Cloud Model theory and the advantages of the extension assessment .On the one hand, the division of the sutra field by means of Cloud Model can overcome the "hard" division of the evils. On the other hand, with different values of Cloud Drops as a sutra field, the statistical results of Cloud Drops can be used as last stable assessment results. Project case study shows that compared with the conventional method, results of the method of extension are more accurate, which fully accorded with the actual state, proving optimized based on Cloud Model extension assessment of slope stability feasible and effective.

So-called orientors have been introduced at the interface between ecology and thermodynamics. Two have been chosen here to compare the characteristics of five ecological systems: exergy, which is related to the degree of organization of a system and represents the biogeochemical energy of a system, and emergy, which is defined as the total amount of solar energy directly or indirectly required to generate a product or a service. They represent two complementary aspects of a system: the actual state and the past work needed to reach that state. The ratio of exergy to the emergy flow indicates the efficiency of an ecosystem in producing or maintaining its organization. The main system under study is a portion of the Venice Lagoon, which is used as a fish farming basin. Four other aquatic ecosystems were considered for comparison. Results show that the ecosystem within the Venice Lagoon is the one with the highest efficiency in transforming the available inputs in organization of the system. This fact is due to human intervention, which is very limited but also very effective.

Due to the uncertainty and complexity of the causes in reservoir-induced seismicity, the relationship between the environmental factor and the possible earthquake magnitude can be described by membership function. This study aims to propose a fuzzy method to contribute the membership function in which the normal cloud model is applied. Firstly, the cloud model is introduced in detail. Based on normal cloud model, the one-to-many mapping model is presented to deal with the fuzziness and randomness in the membership function. Finally, the case study in Yangtze Three Gorges Reservoir is presented to illustrate the membership cloud function in fuzzy risk assessment of reservoir-induced seismicity. The obtained results show that the proposed method is the viable approaches in solving the problem when the memberships are vague and imprecise.

Uncertainty makes the risk evaluation of complex water transportation systems (WTSs) a difficult task. To achieve reasonable results while accounting for uncertainty, the risk evaluation of nautical navigational environments (NNEts) is often based on classical cloud model theory. This study proposes the concept of a risk cloud model (RCM) for NNEt evaluation and uses a fuzzy statistics-based computational approach to obtain the RCM parameters. As a case study, the proposed RCM method was applied to the risk evaluation of the Qiongzhou Strait. The performance of the proposed method was compared to those of a fuzzy theory-based method and an earlier proposed simplified algorithm. The results of the case study demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed method along with several key advantages. First, the method could deal with uncertainty, take advantage of multichannel information, and evaluate risk features. Second, the RCM droplets intuitively displayed the qualitative and quantitative characteristics of risk levels, which facilitated understanding and analysis. Third, it showed a good sensitivity to ensure the refinement of evaluation results. The proposed method offered an improved approach to NNEt risk evaluation under uncertain conditions.

Reuse of old industrial areas strongly impacts urban renewal and social development. However, it is limited by significant pollution and damage of buildings. In the decision-making stage, it is necessary to conduct a reasonable vulnerability analysis of old industrial areas. This study focuses on establishing a reasonable and effective vulnerability assessment model to be used in actual work. First, based on literature analysis, a normal cloud model was employed to establish the assessment process and model. Second, foundation damage, structural bearing capacity, and other building safety indicators, as well as environmental safety, were included in the vulnerability assessment indicator system. Thus, through indicator selection and optimization, the vulnerability assessment indicators and their quantitative methods were determined and parameter features of the cloud model were programmed by the forward cloud generator. Finally, the Shougang Industrial Area, to be reused as the Winter Olympic Park, was selected as the case study. The vulnerability analysis results show that the vulnerability assessment method strongly agrees with the actual status and that the assessment results provide a basis for improving the vulnerability of old industrial areas for reuse.

Piracy is a major threat to maritime safety. Assessing piracy risk is crucial to ship safety, travel security, and emergency plan preparation. In the absence of a thorough understanding of the factors and mechanisms that influence piracy, no perfect mathematical equation can be set up for such risk assessment. Therefore, the major factors that influence piracy were identified to construct an indicator system for assessment. These factors were analyzed, keeping in view the overall hazard, vulnerability, and antirisk properties, and then the Bayesian network was introduced into the risk assessment model to fuse multiresource information. For some indicators, which have only qualitative information or fragmentary statistical data, the cloud model theory was adopted to realize prior probability settings of the Bayesian network and thus made up for the deficiency in parameter settings. Finally, the inherent hazard of the South China Sea was assessed, as an example for the model, and two real piracy cases were studied to validate the proposed model. The assessment model constructed here can be applied to all cases, similar to the ones studied here.

Regardless to the facts that English is being taught to Indonesian students starting from early age, many Indonesian thrive in learning English. They find it quite troublesome for some to acquire the language especially to the level of communicative competence. Although Krashen (1982:10) states that “language acquirers are not usually aware of the fact that they are acquiring language, but are only aware of the fact that they are using the language for communication”, second language acquisition has several obstacles for learners to face and yet the successfulness of mastering the language never surmounts to the one of the native speakers. Learners have never been able to acquire the language as any native speakers do. Mistakes are made and inter-language is unavoidable. McNeili in Ellis (1985, p. 44) mentions that “the mentalist views of L1 acquisition hypothesizes the process of acquisition consists of hypothesis-testing, by which means the grammar of the learner’s mother tongue is related to the principles of the ‘universal grammar’.” Thus this study intends to find out whether the students go through the phase of interlanguage in their attempt to acquire second language and whether their interlanguage forms similar system as postulated by linguists (Krashen).

Abstract The present paper focuses on spatial management regulations in order to carry out investment in the field of airport facilities. The construction, upgrades, and maintenance of airports falls within the area of responsibility of local authorities. This task poses a great challenge in terms of organisation and finances. On the one hand, an active airport is a municipal landmark and drives local economic, social and cultural development, and on the other, the scale of investment often exceeds the capabilities of local authorities. The immediate environment of the airport determines its final use and prosperity. The objective of the paper is to review legislation that affects airports and the surrounding communities. The process of urban planning in Lodz and surrounding areas will be presented as a background to the problem of land use management in the vicinity of the airport. This paper seeks to address the following questions: if and how airports have affected urban planning in Lodz, does the land use around the airport prevent the development of Lodz Airport, and how has the situation changed over the time? It can be assumed that as a result of lack of experience, land resources and size of investments on one hand and legislative dissonance and peculiar practices on the other, aviation infrastructure in Lodz is designed to meet temporary needs and is characterised by achieving short-term goals. Cyclical problems are solved in an intermittent manner and involve all the municipal resources, so there’s little left to secure long-term investments.
