Abstract Rapid and accurate root cause analysis of the defect contributes to improvement in yield and quality in semiconductor manufacturing system. In particular, imperfection of final test can cause major problems for customers, so analysis on root cause of final test failure is important activity for high quality. It can be started with finding first test data which is highly correlated with final test failure. However, it is difficult to analyze the correlation of first test data and final test failures because the first test is made up of hundreds of test items, and the data also show non-parametric characteristics with extreme outlier. In this study, Kolmogorov-Smirnov test (K-S test), which is a non-parametric test method, is statistically applied to the first test data. The K-S test is intuitive and descriptive, which makes it easy to analyze the root cause. And K-S test showed a performance improvement compared to t-test statistic, which requires a normal distribution assumption. Therefore, our data mining approach can help analysis to improve yield and quality of mass production with highly scaled devices.

This article summarizes and reports an empirical study investigating students’ ability in recognizing grammatical errors and producing grammatically correct sentences. Thirty eight university students were involved in a set of grammar tasks which were specifically created to measure their ability to both identify errors and avoid them in language productions. The main purpose of the study is to prove whether their ability to pinpoint errors within sentences resembles their ability in producing grammatically correct sentences using the same features. The study also measures the appropriateness of the test items in order to see how it affects students’ performance. Final test data collected from the students in two different groups reveal that their ability to recognize sentence errors has positive correlation to their ability to produce correct sentences. The correlation figure among the more proficient students (group 2) is relatively larger, indicating that the amount of knowledge on relevant features positively influences, to a certain extent, the quality of language production and responses.

An allowable design method is presented, along with its experimental validation, to obtain engineering-standard design allowable for fatigue life evaluation of advanced composites. A small sample test method for stress/life curves was established to overcome these issues based on the regression analysis theory. Statistically-based design values, such as the B-basis value, the Anderson-Darling test statistic and the observed significance level, were obtained depends on the characteristics of the composite material test data. For evaluation of the fatigue life of advanced composites, the S-N curve-fitting parameters are obtained using the linear heteroscedastic regression method based on experimental data. Another advantage of this method is that all the test data at different stress levels can be analyzed coinstantaneously, which greatly saved the experimental efforts and specimen for confidential statistical results. Finally, an experimental test program has been conducted on typical laminate composites to generate statistically meaningful data for durability design. The numerical results show that the proposed method can be used as a guide to obtaining design allowable for durability analysis of advanced composite structures.

Abstract A non-parametric model for magneto-rheological (MR) dampers is presented. After discussing the merits of parametric and non-parametric models for MR dampers, the test data for a MR damper is used to develop a non-parametric model. The results of the model are compared with the test data to illustrate the accuracy of the model. The comparison shows that the non-parametric model is able to accurately predict the damper force characteristics, including the damper non-linearity and electro-magnetic saturation. It is further shown that the parametric model can be numerically solved more efficiently than the parametric models.

Background. Oxygen uptake efficiency slope (OUES) is a reproducible, objective marker of cardiopulmonary function. OUES is reported as being relatively independent of exercise intensity. Practical guidance and criteria for reporting OUES from submaximal tests has not been established.Objective. Evaluate the use of respiratory exchange ratio (RER) as a secondary criterion for reporting OUES.Design. 100 healthy volunteers (53 women) completed a ramped treadmill protocol to exhaustive exercise. OUES was calculated from data truncated to RER levels from 0.85 to 1.2 and compared to values generated from full test data. Results. Mean (sd) OUES from full test data and data truncated to RER 1.0 and RER 0.9 was 2814 (718), 2895 (730), and 2810 (789) mL/min per 10-fold increase in VE, respectively. Full test OUES was highly correlated with OUES from RER 1.0 (r=0.9) and moderately correlated with OUES from RER 0.9 (r=0.79).Conclusion. OUES values peaked in association with an RER level of 1.0. Sub-maximal OUES values are not independent of exercise intensity. There is a significant increase in OUES value as exercise moves from low to moderate intensity. RER can be used as a secondary criterion to define this transition.

A non parametric Auto-Regressive Conditional Heteroscedastic model for financial returns series is considered in which the conditional mean and volatility functions are estimated non-parametrically using Nadaraya Watson kernel. A test statistic for unknown abrupt change point in volatility which takes into consideration conditional heteroskedasticity, dependence, heterogeneity and the fourth moment of financial returns, since kurtosis is a function of the fourth moment is considered. The test is based on L2norm of the conditional variance functions of the squared residuals. A non-parametric change point estimator in volatility of financial returns is further obtained. The consistency of the estimator is shown theoretically and through simulation. An application of the estimator in change point estimation in volatility of United States Dollar/Kenya Shilling exchange rate returns data set is made. Through binary segmentation procedure, three change points in volatility of the exchange rate returns are estimated and further accounted for.

As the wide application of retroreflective materials, following problems such as safety warning effect, quality, manufacturing technology, test method become more and more important. Many national test centers or big manufactures build retroreflection measurement systems. In order to identify these laboratories’ ability, we organize this laboratory comparison. After 6 months experiments, this comparison successfully finishes. And all the test data are dealt with statistical analysis.
