This paper examines the correlation between leadership styles and employee engagement. For the purpose of our research, we have used a random sample of 594 respondents who are employed in both the public and the private sector in Slovenia. The main goal of the research is to contribute to the understanding of how one independent variable (X1- a Dummy variable for Leadership style; X1= 0 mostly or over 50% of the leaders use the autocratic style of leadership; X1= 1 otherwise) impacts the Y variable (employee engagement). Online surveys combined with face-to-face as well as online interviews were carried out from 4 January to 14 March 2016. For statistical analysis, IBM SPSS 20 has been used and linear regression analysis applied. Based on the linear regression F (1, 586) =1.786, p-value = 0.182, R-square = 0.003), we have found out that there is not any statistically significant (at the 5% significance level) correlation between leadership style and employee engagement. We have also come to a conclusion that autocratic style is mainly used in employee management by Slovenian leaders. Moreover, there is no statistically significant difference at the 5% significance level in leadership styles that are used between genders.

AbstractThis paper examines the relationship between employee engagement and job satisfaction. People spend most of their time at work, and their motivation is considered to be an important factor for job performance. Enthusiastic employees, who focus their efforts on achieving their companies′ goals are a key competitive advantage in the modern world. The effect of employee engagement on business performance has been studied by various experts. They found out the similar conclusion: “the more enthusiastic the workers are, the better operating results they achieve for the company”. An occasional sample of 594 respondents who are employed in the public and non-public sector in Slovenia was used for the purpose of this study. The main goal of the research is to determine whether (and how) the employee engagement influences job satisfaction. A written survey was conducted from 4 January 2016 to 14 March 2016. IBM SPSS 20 was used for the statistical analysis. The results confirm that the relationship between employee engagement and job satisfaction is positive and statistically significant (5 % significance level), based on the linear regression F (1, 583) =296.14, p-value = 0.000, R-square = 0.337. The results also show that there is no statistically significant difference between employee engagement and gender and there is no statistically significant difference between job satisfaction and gender.

The purpose of the study was to investigate the influence of supportive and directive leadership style on employee job satisfaction in commercial banks in Kenya. The study adopted positivism research philosophy to guide the study and limited itself to descriptive correlational research design to analyze and provide responses to the research questions. The research design was preferred because it allows description and comparison of characteristics of populations based on data collected from samples through questionnaires. The target population of the study was 15,030 employees in all the 43 commercial banks licensed to operate in Kenya as of June 2018. Using stratified sampling technique, the study drew a sample size of 386 employees reporting to middle level managers. Data was collected by means of a questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, which included factor analysis, correlational analysis, chi-square, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), and regression analysis using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20 and Windows’ Microsoft excel programs. From the findings of multiple linear regression analysis, it was established that directive leadership style had a positive and significant relationship with employee job satisfaction, R2 = .228, F(1, 362) = 53.396, p < .05; β = .454, p < .05. The results from multiple linear regression analysis also showed that supportive leadership style positively and significantly predicted employee job satisfaction, R2 = .603, F(1, 366) = 278.269, p < .05; β = .716, p < .05. In addition, the study tested the moderating influence of environmental contingency factors and was confirmed that environmental contingency factors significantly moderated the relationship between path-goal leadership style and employee job satisfaction, R2=0.090, F(5,364) = 35.04, p < .05; β= 0.229, p<.05.The study makes a contribution to the literature of the influence of directive and supportive leadership styles from Kenyan commercial banks’ perspective and adds an impetus to employees, management and policymakers to address issues that are impeding employee job satisfaction. The future researchers should include all bank employees in their study to determine the influence of directive leadership style and supportive leadership style on employee job satisfaction.

The purpose of the study was to determine the effect of autocratic leadership style (X1), participatory (X2) and delegation (X3) on work motivation (Y) Navy Personnel. The research method used was a questionnaire with a sample of 55 people. Measurement of variables using Linkert scale techniques with 1-5 weighting values. To find out the relationship between variables X1, X2 and X3 to Y using statistical techniques correlation analysis, simple linear regression, and multiple linear regression, and to test the significance level using the test which is processed using the Statistical Product and Service Solution (SPSS) version 15 program. The conclusion of this study is that there is a strong influence from the autocratic leadership style, participatory and delegation on the work motivation of the Indonesian Navy Personnel. Then it was recommended to the Leaders at the Indonesian Navy Officers, to be able to maintain and continue to develop autocratic leadership styles, participatory leadership styles, and Delegation leadership styles to better achieve organizational goals. The study sought to examine the extent to which directive and achievement-oriented path-goal leadership styles influence employee performance of coffee trading companies in Kenya. The positivism philosophy was adopted and the design used was a descriptive correlational research design. The population for the study was 180 senior managers of coffee trading companies in Kenya. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data. The descriptive statistics were mean and standard deviation while the inferential statistical analysis included correlational analysis, chi-square and multiple linear regression analysis. The results of the multiple linear regression analysis revealed that directive leadership style negatively and significantly predict employee performance, R2= 0.035, F(1, 114) = 4.141,  p≤ .05, β = -0.153, p≤ .05. Multiple linear regression analysis further revealed that achievement-oriented leadership style positively and significantly predicted employee performance, R2= 0.161, F(1, 116) = 20.686, p ≤. .05, β = 0.391, p≤ .05. The study provided a unique contribution to the theory and practice of leadership by contributing to knowledge in the application of Path-goal leadership styles in coffee trading companies. The study findings led to the conclusion that the use of a directive leadership style in coffee trading companies can adversely affect performance and leaders should exercise caution if they have to use this style.

Analysis using multiple linear regression formula Y = a + b1x1 + b2X2 and processed using SPSS 16.0 for Windows. From the analysis of data obtained by multiple regression equation is: Y = 5,965+ 0,656 0,276 X1 + X2. T test at significance level α = 0.05, tcount X1 = 4,497 and table = 1.677. So tcount> ttable. Thus the hypothesis that there is a positive and significant influence between the variables of leadership style and performance Employees of Badan Pemberdayaan Perempuan dan Keluarga Berencana Kota Medan. Meanwhile tcount X2 = 2.247. So tcount> ttable. Thus the hypothesis that there is a positive and significant influence between the variables on the performance of employee and work discipline of Badan Pemberdayaan Perempuan dan Keluarga Berencana Kota Medan. From the test results obtained F test namely Fcount 14.377> 3.15 and a significance level of 0.000 <0.05. Thus it can be concluded that there is a positive and significant influence between variables Leadership Style and Work Discipline on Employee Performance of Badan Pemberdayaan Perempuan dan Keluarga Berencana Kota Medan.
