The research aims to know that Vocabulary Self-collection Strategy (VSS) can improve students’ vocabulary mastery and to find out how far Vocabulary Self-Collection Strategy (VSS) can be useful for the students' vocabulary mastery at the second-grade students of SMP Sinar Husni Medan. The methodology of this research used Classroom Action Research. It was conducted on a two-cycle. In analyzing the data, the researcher used quantitative data. The implementation of Vocabulary Self-collection Strategy (VSS) in teaching vocabulary at eight grade students was successful. It can be seen from the progress of the mean score in cycle I to cycle II. Mean score in a period I 71.20 % and rating in cycle II 78.80 %. The implementation Vocabulary Self-collection Strategy (VSS) as a learning strategy was not only increasing students' mean score but also increase students' motivation and behavior. The students were more interested, happy, and active in teaching-learning English, especially vocabulary. Based on the result above, it could be concluded that Vocabulary Self - Collection Strategy (VSS) improved their students’ vocabulary mastery. The research is aimed to the use of think inside the box strategy be able to improve students vocabulary mastery. The subject of this study was 20 students at second grade students of SMPN 4 Praya Barat Daya. In which consist of 8 males and 12 females. It was classroom action research with two cycles, each cycles of four steps: planning, acting, observing and reflecting. The data gathering used written test, and questionnaires and analyzed by using quantitative and qualitative approach. At the result of the first cycle was failed where the mean score of pre test was 62.35 and class percentage was 30% and he mean score of post test was 70.25 and class percentage was 65% and the result of the second cycle that the mean score was 80,2 and the class percentage was 80% indicating the target of 75 of the minimum criterion has been achieved, it means that the action was stopped.

This study was focused on the improvement of Grade XI students’ writing achievement in analytical exposition through the application of collaborative writing strategy. The objective of this study was to find out whether collaborative writing strategy could improve Grade XI students’ writing achievement in analytical exposition text. The study was conducted by using Classroom Action Research (CAR). The subjects of this study were students of Grade XI Class 2 of State Senior High School (Sekolah Menengah Atas Negeri: SMAN) 4 Pematangsiantar consisting of 32 students. The study was implemented in two cycles and each cycle consisted of three meetings. The instruments of data collection consisted of quantitative and qualitative data. The quantitative data were taken from students’ written test and the qualitative data were taken from the interview, diary notes, observation sheet, and questionnaire. Based on the analytical exposition writing result, students’ score was 57.9. In the test of Cycle I, the mean score was 67, and in the test of Cycle II was 78.3. Based on the observation sheet, it was found that the teaching-learning process well done. The students were active and curious in writing. In line with the data, it was found that collaborative writing strategy can improve Grade XI students’ writing achievement in analytical exposition text. This research was aimed to describe the use of mind mapping technique be able to improving students’motivation.The subject of this study was 37 students at second grade students of MTs. NW Mispalah Praya. In which consist of 25 males and 12 females. It is was classroom action research with one cycle, each cycle of four steps: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The data gathering used observation sheet and test and analyzed by using quantitative and qualitative approach. At the result of pre-test was failed where the mean score of pre-test was 65 and class percentage was 52% and the result of the first cycle that the mean score was 70,4 and the class percentage was 100% indicating the target of 70 of the minimum criterion has been achieved, it means that the action was stopped

Abstract The preliminary research of this research showed that the students had problems with reading comprehension known from their score. The students got 55 as their reading comprehension score where as the score of the student’s report card was 68. Therefore, this present study employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) which involves four stages of research. They were (1) Planning, (2) Implementing, (3) Observing, and (4) Reflecting. The instruments used to collect data in this research are field note, observation checklist, and reading comprehension test. This research was done in one cycle which consists of three meeting and it set score 63 in average as the criterion of success based on the researcher and the English teacher discussion. This criterion of success considered the students’ reading comprehension ability and the classroom circumstance.  The result of this study above draws us into the conclusion that the graphic organizer Method improves the student’s reading comprehension. This proved by the increasing of their score and behavior during the implementation of the method. Thus, graphic organizer method is an effective method in improving student’s reading comprehension. Keywords:  Reading comprehension, graphic organizer method, classroom action research AbstrakStudi pendahuluan dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa siswa memiliki masalah dengan kemampuan membaca yang diketahui dari skor mereka. Para siswa mendapat 55 sebagai skor pemahaman bacaan mereka sedangkan skor kartu laporan siswa adalah 68. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini menggunakan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) yang melibatkan empat tahap penelitian. Mereka adalah (1) Perencanaan, (2) Implementing, (3) Observing, dan (4) Reflecting. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data dalam penelitian ini adalah catatan lapangan, daftar observasi, dan tes membaca pemahaman. Penelitian ini dilakukan dalam satu siklus yang terdiri dari tiga pertemuan dan menetapkan skor rata-rata 63 sebagai kriteria keberhasilan berdasarkan pada peneliti dan diskusi guru bahasa Inggris. Kriteria keberhasilan ini mempertimbangkan kemampuan pemahaman membaca siswa dan keadaan kelas. Hasil penelitian ini di atas menarik kita ke kesimpulan bahwa Metode grafik organizer meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa. Ini dibuktikan dengan meningkatnya skor dan perilaku mereka selama implementasi metode. Dengan demikian, metode grafik organizer adalah metode yang efektif dalam meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa. Kata kunci: Pemahaman membaca, metode grafik organizer, penelitian tindakan kelas

This study deals with the way to improve students’ achievement in speaking particularly through Two Stay Two Stray Strategy. This study was conducted by using classroom action research. The subject of of the research was class X-AP SMK Swasta Harapan Danau Sijabut in Asahan Regency that consisted of 34 students. The research was conducted in two cycles consisted of three meetings in each cycle. The instruments of collecting data for quantitative data used Speaking Test and instrument for analysis of qualitative data used observation, interview and questionnaire sheet. Based on the speaking test score, students’ score kept improving in every test. In the test I the mean was 61,47, in the test II the mean was 67,41 and the test III the mean was 78,52. Based on observation sheet and questionnaire sheet, it was found that teaching learning process run well and lively. Students were active and interest in speaking. The using of Two Stay Two Stray Strategy is significantly improved students’ achievement in speaking.

This study attempts to increase students’ vocabulary achievement by using flash cards. The objective of the study is to investigate whether the using of flash card can improve students’ vocabulary achievement. This study conduct by applying Classroom Action Research which was carried out in two cycles in six meetings. The subject of this study of SD Negeri 174559 Siraituruk, Porsea which consisted of 34 students. For collecting data, the instruments used were quantitative (vocabulary test) and qualitative data (interview sheet, observation sheet, and diary notes. Based on the data, it was found that the mean of the second cycle (80, 44) is higher than the mean of first cycle (64, 85) and pre-test (44, 41).  Based on interview sheet, observation sheet and diary notes, it was found thee students were more active and more enthusiastic during the teaching learning process in the second cycle than the first one. It was concluded that teaching vocabulary by using  flash cards can improve the students’ vocabulary achievement.

Listening is one of basic skill in English. Many of students feel difficult to learn listening especially in English. Using a multimedia as a teaching media is important in this process. It can catch students attention of the lesson. This research discusses improving listening skill using application “Learning English by Listening” as learning media for grade 10 Pharmancy SMK Kesehatan Fajar Kencana. This study is Classroom Action Research. This research uses several instruments such as test used for pretest and posttest and observation. This study involved 39 students as the respondent of the research. This study using Learn English By Listening application to improve students listening skill. Students scores in listening skill at the pretest and posttest were namely the mean score of pretest is 6.34 and the mean score of posttest was 6.97. In the last score it increased to 8.18. The students were very enthusiastic in this learning.

This research aimed at finding out whether Listen-Read-Discuss (LRD) strategy improves students’ reading comprehension or not. The research was a classroom action research. The data collected through quantitative and qualitative approach. Quantitative data was gained from the result of pre-test and post-test from reading test. Meanwhile, qualitative data was gained from the result of observation sheets toward students’ and teachers’ activity. The instruments used by the researcher were test and observation sheet. The finding of the research showed that the strategy Listen-Read-Discuss improve the students’ reading comprehension in descriptive text. The improvement can be seen from the mean score of students from pre-test, post-test one, and post-test two. The mean score of pre-tests was 64.46 (50%), there were eight students who passed the minimum passing grade, in the post-test one, 75.35 (67%), twelve students passed the minimum passing grade and in the post-test two, 82.14 (89%), twenty-five students passed the minimum passing grade (KKM).

This study is a classroom action research (CAR). This study proposed example non example technique to teach English for second grade students at state junior high school 1 Larangan Pamekasan to solve the students’ problems on speaking skill. The result of the preliminary study indicated that the problem of the students toward their speaking skill is the average speaking score is lower than the minimum standard of learning (KKM). Based on the pre-test, the students who got score more or equals to 75 are 7 students and 33 students got less 75. Then the researchers collaborated with the teachers try to solve the problem using example non-example technique using classroom action approach. The results showed that the instruction through example non-example technique in the Cycle I and Cycle II, there was improvement of students’ speaking ability at second grade of state junior high school 1 Larangan Pamekasan. The students were more imaginative and feel free to show their understanding about the pictures. It made they motivate to learn and they could improve their speaking ability.

The main objective of this study is to know how effective the use of Collaborative Writing in teaching writing descriptive texts is. So this final project mainly aims at determining the effectiveness of using Collaborative Writing in teaching writing descriptive texts. This study was conducted under the consideration that the students often get difficulties in describing something. In order to achieve the objective of the study, the writer designed an action research. The population of this study was the second grade students of SMP Negeri 29 Medan. The number of the subjects of this study was 37 students. During the research, the students becoming the subjects were taught by using Collaborative Writing in teaching writing descriptive texts. There were two cycles in this action research. Each cycle consisted of four phases. Before giving treatments in those two cycles, the students were given pre-test. After each treatment in each cycle, the students were tested. And the last, they were given post-test and questionnaire. The main purpose of conducting it was to find out the validity and the reliability of the test as instrument. The result of this research showed that the students’ ability in writing descriptive texts improved after a series of treatments given in the cycles. It can be seen by comparing the means of their tests. The mean score for the pre-test was 53.92, the mean score for test 1 was 70.27, while the mean score for the post-test was 80.08. It is clear that after applying Collaborative Writing in each treatment, the mean of each test improves and gets better. The use of Collaborative Writing technique is one of the ways to make students interest in studying English especially writing descriptive text.
