The development of information technology is now growing rapidly, including in the health sector. According to WHO, medical record is an important compilation of facts about a patient's life and health. The development of information technology in medical records is the electronic medical record (EMR). Developed countries, such as the United States and Korea have implemented EMR for a long time. In developing countries such as Indonesia, the development of EMR is still in progress because its implementation requires many factors to build a system or replace from manual medical records. Eventually, it is hoped that in the future all health care will use the EMR to resume patient datas from admission to discharge. The purpose of this study is to analyse the implementation and preparation of EMR in health care in Indonesia. This study is a literature review on the implementation and preparation of EMR in health care in Indonesia. The review is dome from 28 literature sources (Google-Scholar database). Total of 8 articles were obtained from 2017 to 2021. The results show that there are benefits after switching to EMR, even though some health care only used EMR in certain units. The highest benefit is reducing the cost of duplicating paper for printing. Also there is still limited human resources and tools for implementing EMR in Indonesia. The implementation of this EMR will enable the improvements of the service quality of the health care itself, especially in Indonesia.

Medical records are made in writing, complete and clear or electronically. Medical records are the basis of medical services to patients. Paper medical records increase the amount of paper waste in Indonesia. A national e-health strategy is a comprehensive approach to efforts in the national health sector. Electronic medical records are more effective because of better time management. The formulation of the problem in this article covers the reasons, criteria, and implementation of electronic medical records. The research method used is descriptive qualitative research with a statute approach. The criteria for a good electronic medical record are integrated data from various sources, data collected at the service point, and supporting service providers in decision making. The expected electronic medical record is to be integrated with the health service facility information system program without neglecting the confidentiality aspect. Therefore, the government needs to make regulations on the technical implementation of electronic medical records.

<p>Objective: To examine current and developing data management roles and opportunities for health librarians<br />to become involved in electronic medical record (EMR) initiatives. This paper focuses on the Canadian context but has implications farther afield. Methods: To accomplish a state-of-the-art review, searches were conducted in the library and information science databases (LISTA, LISA), biomedical databases (MEDLINE, CINAHL, EMBASE), and on the web for grey literature. Keywords included: clinical librarian, health science librarian, medical librarian, hospital librarian, medical informationist, electronic medical record, EMR, electronic health record, EHR, data management, data curation, health informatics, e-science, and e-science librarianship. MeSH subject headings used were: Medical Records Systems, Computerized/, Electronic Health Records/, and libraries/. Results: There is little evidence of Canadian health librarians’ current involvement in EMR initiatives, but examples from the United States indicate that health librarians’ participation is primarily in system implementation, creating links to the medical literature, and using EMRs to provide patient health information. Further roles for health librarians are emerging in this area as health librarians draw on their core competencies and learn from e-science librarianship to create new opportunities. Data management examples from e-science librarianship, such as building data dictionaries and data management plans and infrastructure, give further direction to health librarians’ involvement in EMRs. Conclusion: As EMRs gradually become more popular in Canada, Canadian health librarians should seek further opportunities for education and outreach to become more involved with these EMR initiatives.</p>

The incorporation of an electronic medical record into patient care is a priority in developed countries, but faces significant obstacles for adoption in developing countries. The goal of our study was to define and assess the efficiency of a personalized intervention on village physicians’ use of electronic medical records in rural community health services of underprivileged areas. Six towns were selected with two bordering local health stations from each town. One was randomly given to the intervention group and the other to the control group. A structured on-site intervention was provided to village physicians in the intervention group, for 7 months. The results showed that in the intervention group, the percentage of households with complete records increased. The percentage of clinic medical records and complete child vaccination in the intervention group also increased from 2 to 14 percent (p = <0.05) and from 10 to 23 percent (p = 0.05), respectively. Our investigation demonstrated that on-site education, supervision, and technical support directly correlate with improved use of electronic medical record. Our results report the challenges in implementing such a system and the steps being taken to enhance likelihood of sustainability.

The author describes problems related to the implementation of electronic medical record in family medicine in Slovenia since 1992 when first personal computers have been delivered to family physicians' practices. The situation of health care informatization and implementation of electronic medical record in primary health care in new countries, other former Yugoslav republics, is described. There are rather big differences among countries and even among some regions of one country, but in the last year the situation improved, especially in Montenegro, Serbia and Slovenia. The main problem that is still unsolved is software offered by several companies which do not offer many functions, are non-standardized or user friendly enough and is not adapted to doctors' needs. Some important questions on medical records are discussed, e.g. what is in fact a medical record, what is its purpose, who uses it, which record is a good one, what should contain and confidentiality issue. The author describes what makes electronic medical record better than paper-based one (above all it is of better quality, efficiency and care-safe, easier in data retrieval and does it offer the possibility of data exchange with other health care professionals) and what are the barriers to its wider implementation.

Medical records, first developed in the fifth century, have remained virtually unchanged until the explosion of new technology in the mid-1960s. The National Space and Aeronautics Administrations development of computerized patient record (CPR) brought life to the electronic medical record (EMR) industry. Preventable deaths due to medical errors drew the attention of public and health care professionals to the need for increased patient safety and improved quality measures in medicine. With health care costs compromising 16-17% of the U.S. Gross Domestic Product, Congress passed legislation to financially support providers to adopt electronic medical record (EMR). As a result, future efforts will focus on the sharing of information among all health care stakeholders. Across the world, governments, technology companies, and care providers are collaborating efforts to make the EMR a reality.

National legislation is in place to facilitate reform of the United States health care industry. The Health Care Information Technology and Clinical Health Act (HITECH) offers financial incentives to hospitals, physicians, and individual providers to establish an electronic health record that ultimately will link with the health information technology of other health care systems and providers. The information collected will facilitate patient safety, promote best practice, and track health trends such as smoking and childhood obesity.

Introduction: The number of cancer survivors is increasing in Colombia, and health policy changes are necessary to meet their unmet needs and improve their health outcomes. Similar trends have been identified in developed countries, and positive changes have been made. Methods: We conducted a narrative review to provide an overview of Colombia’s social structure, health care system, and health care delivery in relation to cancer, with recommendations for improving cancer survivorship in Colombia based on the model of survivorship care in the United States. Results: We proposed general recommendations for improving cancer survivors’ care including (1) recognizing cancer survivorship as a distinct phase of cancer, (2) strengthening methods and metrics for tracking cancer survivorship, (3) assessing and monitoring cancer symptoms and quality of life of cancer survivors, (4) publishing evidence-based guidelines considering the social, economic, and cultural characteristics of Colombian population and cancer survivors’ specific needs. Conclusion: These recommendations could be used to inform and prioritize health policy development in Colombia related to cancer survivorship outcomes.

Comprehensive data on the costs of multiple sclerosis is sparse. We conducted a survey of 606 persons with MS who were members of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society to obtain data on their cost of personal health services, other services, equipment, and earnings. Compensation of such cost in the form of health insurance, income support, and other subsidies was measured. Survey data and data from several secondary sources was used to measure costs incurred by comparable persons without MS. Based on the 1994 data, the annual cost of MS was estimated at over $34 000 per person, translating into a conservative estimate of national annual cost of $6.8 billion, and a total lifetime cost per case of $2.2 million. Major components of cost were earnings loss and informal care. Virtually all persons with MS had health insurance, mostly Medicare/Medicaid. Health insurance covered 51 per cent of costs for services, excluding informal care. On average, compensation for earnings loss was 27 per cent. MS is very costly to the individual, health care system, and society. Much of the cost (57 per cent) is in the form of burdens other than personal health care, including earnings loss, equipment and alternations, and formal and informal care. These costs often are not calculated.
