In the past several years, the general public has had concerns about hacking and identity theft. Headlines in news media include computer system breaches at popular and respected companies like Target and universities like The University of California at Berkeley. This paper explores options available for providing the general public with the benefits of the information age while mitigating against the security risks. We begin with a discussion of it is reasonable for the general public to expect organizations engaged primarily in commerce to provide for their cybersecurity. We then look at how electronic transactions are currently secured. We conclude with a consideration of the “protocols” or “institutions” that might provide for security for consumers.

Technology continues to evolve rapidly, and organizations need to constantly evolve to keep up with the latest innovations in hardware, software, and processes to strategically select and manage technology.  Underlying these firm capabilities are the employees that monitor, plan, and implement technology improvements, thereby it is critical that organizations have employees that can contribute to firm absorptive capacity and who can strategically take advantage of technology innovations.  In this theoretical paper, we examine what type of curriculum MIS undergraduate programs might implement to prepare students for careers in the dynamically evolving realm of technology-infused organizations.  We posit that students need to go beyond the adage of “learning how to learn”, but instead need to have the skills and the mindset to compete in a technology-enabled environment.  Specifically, we examine a learning module on Dynamic SQL delivered in an advanced database course, and analyze why introducing a rigorous and complex learning module can develop and expand students’ absorptive capacity resulting in a competitive advantage when entering the workforce.

Technology is becoming increasingly embedded into our lives. We are seeing a push towards digitization and online access. This can be a challenge for some because users’ level of technical ability varies among the generations and other factors. Predicting technological innovations and how they might supplement, integrate with, or entirely replace existing technology is nearly impossible. These changes and innovations include many within the realm of education, including the relatively recent advent and increasing presence of e-Book sources and platforms.  This study examines how higher education students across different generations are embracing electronic books in their studies. Students have more distractions than ever before. Using mobile devices smartly but having the ability to concentrate when you need to can be a challenge. Just because e-Books options are available and being increasingly adopted does not necessarily mean they are preferred by students.  This study contributes to our understanding of their acceptance across different generations of students.

This paper describes a strategy for efficiently constructing the demand servicing process of an Integrated Communication Network (ICN). Performance analysis, service problems, and relief action of ICNs are provided. End-to-end statistical performance parameters are first used to measure network compliance over a given fixed period. If any of the performance objectives are not satisfied, a servicing function determines the corrective action required to maintain service quality. The advantage of this network model is its efficiency and flexibility in handling a variety of services and applications. Enhanced network service and ICN traffic problems are solved using adaptive queuing models.

This paper discusses the history of the sort-merge routine and the impacts of hardware limitations on the performance of sort-merge processing.  The results of comparing a single-step sort-merge with a two-step sort-merge in a hard-disk drive (HDD) environment are presented to show that a two-step sort-merge can reduce total processing time. An evaluation is made of the total transfer time of three sort-merge variations without reference to seek time or rotational delay.  This evaluation prepares the statistics for application to the solid-state drive (SSD) environment, and the conclusion is that sort-merge routines that are optimized for the HDD environment are sub-optimal if applied to the SSD environment.  In addition, the sizes of the work files used by the three sort-merge routines are analyzed, and it is demonstrated that sort-merge routines that are optimized for the HDD environment will generate unnecessary wear if applied to the SDD environment.  Further, it is demonstrated that the key sorting routine should be preferred over the other sort-merge routines in a SSD environment.

The present study aims to investigate the effect of board size and managerial ownership on firm performance in Jordan, based on agency. The current study examined cross sectional data to test all hypotheses through using statistical software, SPSS 20, to analyze data on a sample of 60 firms (service firms) in Jordan as one of emerging markets in Asia. Multiple regression analysis instruments were used to test the hypothesis regarding the effect of board size and managerial ownership on firm performance with the effect of firm size as a control variable. The data used in the current study is obtained from the annual reports issued by Amman Stock Exchange (ASE) for the year 2014. Accounting data is used in the current study for the purpose of measuring the performances represented by ROA and ROE. I find that measures of board size statistically affect ROA and ROE. Board size affects ROA and ROE positively while firm size has no effect on firm performance. Unfortunately, managerial ownership does not affect both ROA and ROE. The current study presents practical evidence to the policy makers, academic and all beneficiary parties in emerging markets, specifically Jordan.

Nowadays, the quality of virtual service is diminishing, in which different aspects of E-business industry is signifying, especially in the business to business (B2B). E-procurement is part of the e-business, therefore, quality factors of E-procurement originates from e-business. Much research has focused on the critical success factors of E-procurement, however, when it comes to implementation, many E-procurements fail, which can be very costly. This article attempts to increase the success rate of E-procurement, and ensures that the success of E-procurement is more sustainable. This research estimates the structural equation model by collecting data from 208 managers to employ quantitative analysis to investigate the relationship between E-procurement quality factors. The result of this research shows that the quality of the organization culture has partial mediator relationship to the success of E-procurement. Meanwhile, the quality of IT infrastructure does not have a mediator relationship with the success of E-procurement. Lastly, quality of knowledge management has a full mediator relationship with the success of E-procurement and it does not affect the dynamic capability of organization directly.

This study examined the association of information systems and organizational performance behavior. The population of the study was 156 top echelon members of the selected organizations; whereas the sample size was 112 as determined using the Taro Yemen’s formula. Questionnaire was the instrument for data collection. Data were presented using descriptive statistics and hypotheses were tested with the Spearman’s Rank Order Correlation Coefficient and results showed that there is a significant association of three dimensions of information systems with the measures of organizational performance. The study concluded that adoption of information systems in the fast food outlets is capable of bringing about better performance because it allows the organizations to:(1) have hands- on information on virtually every bit of its operations, (2) promotes prudent and transparent resource application and (3) makes organizations to speedily and flexibly respond to service requests. The study recommended that: (1) Organizations should ensure that reasonable attention is accorded the application of information systems in the running of its operations by giving it a priority attention during resource allocations. (2) Staff should be periodically trained on the use of information systems’ supporting technologies so that everyone in the organization can use the systems effectively, and (3) Good systems development experts should be consulted periodically to analyze and design new systems or update existing ones to match with organizations’ current realities.

Healthcare employees with their motivation to comply with security policies play an extremely important role in protecting patients’ privacy. In this research we attempt to survey the attitude of healthcare employees towards security of Electronic Medical Records. We further review what factors impact their perception of the medical data security and determine how well they understand policies, procedures, organization structures, and other aspects related to EMR protection.

Scholars and practitioners have identified transformational leadership and organizational culture as important factors that influence the development of learning organization. Yet, few studies have empirically examined the impact of transformational leadership and organizational culture on learning organization. This study proposes hypotheses to understand the impact of transformational leadership and organizational culture on the development of learning organization. Data was collected from the pharmaceutical sector and a comparison was drawn between India and Nepal. Results indicate transformational leadership and organizational culture have a positive influence in the development of learning organization. The implication of the findings and possible directions for future research are discussed.
