The article reveals the professional specifics of learning a foreign language, its focus on the implementation of the tasks of future professional activities of managers of socio-cultural activities. Attention is focused on a professionally oriented approach to teaching a foreign language at esta-blishments of higher education, which involves the formation in future managers of socio-cultural activities of ability of foreign language com-munication in specific professional, business,scientific fields and situations, taking into account the peculiarities of professional thinking. Vocational training is training based on the needs of future managers of socio-cultural activities in the study of a foreign language, which is dictated by the characteristics of the future profession or specialty. It is stated that in order to realize the didactic potential of a foreign language as an effective means of professional and social orientation of future managers of socio-cultural activities at establishments of higher education, the following conditions should be observed: 1) clear formulation of goals of foreign language speech activities; 2) social and professional orientation of these activities; 3) students’ satisfaction in solving partial problems; 4) formation of students’ ability to be creative in solving partial problems; 5) favorable psychological climate in the teaching staff. A number of features of a foreign language as a subject are also revealed. In addition, a number of structural elements of the content component of the model of professionally oriented foreign language learning are identified: 1) communication skills by types of speech activities (speaking, listening, reading, writing) based on general and professional vocabulary; 2)language knowledge and skills, which include knowledge of phonetic phenomena, grammatical forms, rules of word formation, lexical units, terminology specific to a particular pro-fession; 3) socio-cultural knowledge, which aims to attract students not onlyto a new way of language communication, but also to the culture of the people who speak the language being studied; 4) edu-cational skills, rational methods of mental work, providing a culture of language acquisition in the educational environment and a culture of com-munication with native speakers

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the online learning of foreign languages at higher education level has represented a way to adapt to the restrictions imposed worldwide. The aim of the present article is to analyse university students’ behaviours, emotions and perceptions associated to online foreign language learning during the pandemic and their correlates by using a mixed approach. The research used the Foreign Language Enjoyment (FLE) scale and tools developed by the authors, focusing on task value, self-perceived foreign language proficiency, stressors and responses in online foreign language learning during the pandemic. Some of the results, such as the negative association between anxiety and FLE, are consistent with those revealed in studies conducted in normal times. Other results are novel, such as the protective role of retrospective enjoyment in trying times or the higher level of enjoyment with lower-achieving students. Reference is made to students’ preferences for certain online resources during the pandemic (e.g., preference for PowerPoint presentations) and to their opinions regarding the use of entirely or partially online foreign language teaching in the post-COVID period. The quantitative results are fostered by the respondents’ voices in the qualitative research. The consequences of these results are discussed with respect to the teacher-student relationship in the online environment and to the implications for sustainable online foreign language learning.

Cloud computing has become a major talking point in recent times. An innovation such as cloud computing for higher education institutions (HEI) can be a cost effective means to operate their IT systems effectively without having to spend vast amounts of money on developing their IT infrastructure. HEIs also face the burden of several challenges e.g. limited infrastructure resources and IT budget, as well as limited teaching staff, technical experts, and IT skilled personnel. With support from a systematic literature review approach, this article identifies the key determinants of cloud adoption from a technological, organisational, environmental and personal perspectives. A total of 17 cloud adoption studies in the HEI context and their respected models from the period of 2012 to 2017 are reviewed and discussed. The findings suggest a lack of cloud adoption studies in the HEI domain from multiple perspectives, particularly in relation to the wider socio-technical concerns related to cloud adoption and future studies related to this research gap are deliberated.

Abstract According to the results of leading American scientists that convincingly demonstrate the effectiveness and necessity of early foreign language learning the features of teaching foreign languages at elementary level in the United States have been analyzed. It has been found out that the US government is working on the improvement of foreign language at elementary education all over the country. The attention is paid the languages that were not so popular, and now have obtained the status of “extremely necessary”, such as Arabic, Farsi and Russian, as they have become very important for the future participation of the state in world politics. The requirements for programs development of foreign language for elementary school have been described; such aspects as quantity of classes, curriculum project, teaching materials, teaching staff and knowledge of the students, the choice of languages, coordination and efficiency are taken into consideration. The short description of the content of foreign language teaching of elementary education has been presented. It has been indicated that success in foreign language learning as a device of foreign language communication depends on the level of listening, lexical, grammatical and spelling skills, as well as the abilities of listening, speaking, reading and writing, which are defined in the program for elementary school.

ABSTRACT  Foreign language is an important component of someone in facing the era of Industry 4.0. The development of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) will have an impact on the creation of a learning media innovation that will facilitate users in the learning process in higher education. Likewise in foreign language learning. Online-based learning has been designed in such a way as to increase learning knowledge and motivation. This study uses a qualitative approach with the survey method. Data and Sources of data in this study are students of foreign language study programs at universities in Indonesia. The results of the study show that students generally always use smartphones and use social media in all their activities. Students use a lot of social media in exploring vocabulary and increasing vocabulary mastery, learning as well as building networks for native speakers (Muttersprachler), and making social media a means of learning by accessing foreign-language songs and interesting media in student foreign language learning. Listening is not only one of the most important language skills, which is necessary for everyday communication, but an integral part  of foreign language learning. It is evident that the students need an  effective training in building auditory skills. However, proper  attention is seldom paid to the process of listening to the English  speech, altering phoneme recognition in the stream of speech, which  often causes difficulties in audio-comprehension. The subject  of this research is facilitation of teaching listening comprehension to  the students of non-linguistic universities. The purpose of the article is to identify the core phonological features of coherent  English speech and provide the examples of activities aimed at their  recognition. The methodological framework of the conducted  research is represented by bottom-up approach to teaching listening  and the tenet that speech perception and comprehension by ear is a  process. Therefore, the ability to correctly decode phonemes, words,  phrases and infer meaning plays an utmost role. In thiscontext the students’ wrong answers should be analyzed, it contributes to determining the point of misunderstanding. It is  shown that making students aware of phonological features  of  coherent English speech helps them to overcome difficulties in  audiotext perception and thus enhances teaching listening  comprehension. The results of the research can be of interest to  both foreign language teachers and to the researchers dealing with  English phonetics learning. Finally, the conclusions are drawn that a  successful development of listening skills requires a combination of  the bottom-up and top-down approaches. This enables teaching staff  to create favorable conditions for acquisition of one of the most challenging language skills.

Students’ language learning motivation is an important factor to ensure the quality of higher education in Ukraine in the context of its integration into the European Higher Education Area. The present study reveals the findings that showcase both pedagogical and psychological factors influencing students’ foreign language learning motivation in translation competence. The authors used a set of basic theoretical research methods to analyze, synthetize and classify scientific and methodological sources on the research problem; empirical methods of questionnaire surveys with direct and indirect questioning to represent learning motivational characteristics, statistical analysis to summarize the research results. Both psychological and pedagogical diagnostics of the socially heterogeneous respondents’ motivation made it possible to determine the external socio-cultural and internal self-concept motives in their self-improvement and self-regulated learning. It is established that the respondents’ external motives have arisen due to such stimulating factors as "competitive advantage in the labor market" and "career growth potential". Internal motives are mainly related to the satisfaction of a student’s personal needs in the foreign language learning (interest, awareness of the insufficient level of communicative competence, internal belief in the need for self-improvement of foreign language translation skills, etc.). Analysis of the diagnostics results provided an opportunity to distinguish the obstacles to the self-development of respondents in translation education. Experimental testing of the learning motivation within the internal and external mediation allowed to reveal the dominance of internal motives over external ones in all categories of respondents. Insufficient or low level of independent self-regulated learning has been identified as the main obstacle to self-improvement of foreign language translation competence. The paper contributes to the current understanding of translation education, especially in the context of Ukraine, by investigating factors influencing students’ learning motives and their pedagogical and theoretical implications.
