The focus of this study was to determine the motivational strategies provided for facilitators in adult literacy centres in Enugu-North Senatorial zone, Enugu State, Nigeria. Five research questions guided the study. The study adopted a descriptive survey design. The population of the study comprised all the facilitators in adult literacy centres in Enugu-North senatorial zone of Enugu-State. The sample of the study was 160 facilitators selected through simple random sampling technique. Questionnaire which was duly validated by two experts in Adult Education and one expert in Measurement and Evaluation was used for data collection. The reliability of the instrument was determined using Cronbach Alpha Coefficient and 0.81 was obtained and taken as reliable. Data collected were analyzed with Mean. The findings of the study include that the facilitators were not provided with conducive physical learning environment, given appropriate reward systems, in service training programmes, adequate teaching resources and not fully involved in school decision making process. One of the recommendations is that the government should make adequate provision for conducive physical learning environment in the literacy centres.

The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of demographic factors on instructional practices and challenges teachers face in teaching students with visual impairments in the government secondary schools of Harari regional state. A quantitative method with a survey design was employed. The sample consisted of 100 (with 95% response rate) participants selected using simple random sampling technique. Data was collected using questionnaire in the form of Likert scale. Frequencies, percentages, means, standard deviation, independent t-test and One-Way ANOVA were used to analyze the data. The study revealed that teachers’ level of qualification has implications to the instructional practices, namely their collaboration with other professionals, classroom supplies and equipment and teaching strategies. Teachers with training on inclusive or special needs education were found to use more specialized or individualized teaching strategies in the classroom for SVI than those who did not have training. Furthermore, years of teaching experience was found to influence teachers’ collaboration with other professionals. Teachers with bachelor’s degree and MA/MSc holders were found to face more challenges in adapting teaching strategies, materials and identifying the needs of SVI compared to teachers with diploma holders. The study concluded that the identified demographic factors were found to influence at least one of the teachers’ instructional practices in inclusion of SVI. The study concluded that teachers’ level of qualification has an influence on the challenges they face in teaching SVI in the government preparatory and secondary schools of Harari regional state.

Competence based curriculum have faced criticism from educationalist based on its tasking and resistivity to change. However, in Canada, Scotland and Finland its implementation has be stunning. The stakeholders in Kenya has raise concern about their preparedness coupled with criticism from section of the government complaining on lack of involvement of stakeholders. The objective of the study was to establish whether teachers’ attitude influences the implementation of the competence-based curriculum. Social constructivism theory was adopted. A descriptive survey design and correlation research design were adopted for the study. The target population of the study included 24 County support Officers (CSOs’), 52 headteachers, and 610 Grade 1 teachers. The sample size was 6 CSOs, 52 Headteachers, and 61 Grade 1 teachers. A saturated sampling technique was used to select all the 52 headteachers from 52 schools. Simple random sampling was used to select the schools and CSOs. A purposive sampling technique was used to select Grade 1 teachers in Kericho County. Data was collected using interview schedules, questionnaires, and an observation schedule. Quantitative data were analysed using descriptive statistics in the form of percentages, means, and standard deviation, while inferential statistics were correlated using Pearson product-moment correlation. Qualitative data were analysed thematically. The attitude of teachers had a positive impact on CBC implementation, with a correlation of 0.560 and a calculated value of 0.00 for the headteachers and 0.284 with a calculated value of 0.032 for Grade 1 teachers. The results of this study are important for the successful adoption of the competency-based program through the participation of education stakeholders.

Gender education and entrepreneurship have become worldwide phenomena for women, particularly in patriarchy societies where all kinds of discriminations, subjugation against them are frightening realities of contemporary times. As a result, female entrepreneurship has been weighed down by poor education, social norms, and lack of access to free credit facilities. It is in this context that this paper examines the impacts of gender education on female entrepreneurship in Enugu urban, Enugu state, Nigeria. A survey design was employed and 300 respondents were selected using the simple random sampling technique. Out of this number of respondents, only 280 (90.33%) structured questionnaire were returned and analyzed using both quantitative and qualitative methods. The distribution of the respondents showed 210 (75%) were female entrepreneurs, while 70 respondents (25%) were male entrepreneurs. Among the findings, an overwhelming majority of the respondents are of the view that the female entrepreneurs are important for the socio-economic transformation of the Enugu State, and by extension, Nigeria. Secondly, the study agrees that there is hardly a society where gender stereotypes do not exist but that these aspects of the gender belief system which are anti- female entrepreneurs' development have been over taken by the power of gender education. In addition, the study shows that gender education is the most viable and veritable vehicle for guaranteeing and sustaining female entrepreneurs to continue to expand entrepreneurship in Nigeria. Thirdly, this study has presented a different picture of women making some tremendous efforts in spite of all odds cannot be underestimated because their contributions have been remarkable despite the challenges they face in their quest to transform the patriarchal Igbo society, especially Enugu State. Based on this, the study concludes that the contributions of female entrepreneurs in Nigeria's entrepreneurship development cannot be underestimated because their contributions have been remarkable despite the challenges they face. In this vein, the study suggests that gender education should be a priority to halt all forms of discriminatory practices against female entrepreneurs and in the same vein, calls for elimination of prejudices and customary practices that are based on the idea of the inferiority or superiority of either sex or on stereotyped roles for men and women. Above all, government should, through financial institutions, grant free interest loans to encourage female entrepreneurs plunge themselves into businesses to sustain the breaking of the glass ceilings.

Background: The hawking of wares by children has been a serious issue confronting the Nigerian society. Children hawk in some of the most horrible conditions conceivable, where they face a serious risk of injury, chronic illness, kidnapping, rape or death. Objective: The focus of this study was to assess the perceived effects of street hawking on the well-being of children in Anyigba, Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State. Methods: The population of this study consists of parents of the street hawkers in Anyigba while cross-sectional survey design was used through the purposive sampling technique to choose the sample size of one hundred and sixty-two (162) respondents. The validated structured questionnaire and In-Depth Interviews (IDIs) served as the instruments for the data collection respectively. The hypotheses were tested using Chi-Square at a predetermined 0.05 level of significance. The quantitative data were analysed with the aid of the SPSS (version 20). Results: The results indicated among others that street hawking had significant social implications and physical consequences on children's moral behaviour as well as health status in the study area. Conclusion: The study, therefore, concluded that the government of Kogi State should carry out an enlightenment campaign through the media and religious institutions on the negative consequences of street hawking are recommended as panacea. Also, the child right act instrument and its implementation should be strengthened in order to curb street hawking in the study area.

<p>The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of learning discipline <br />and logical mathematical intelligence on mathematics achievement. This study is a survey design. This research did in student class XI IPA SMA Negeri 98 Jakarta semester 2012/2013. The sample taken by simple random sampling technique, involved 40 students. The instrument were in the forms of questionnaires and tests. The data were analyzed first by test requirements, the normality test, linearity and multicollinearity. Based on the fulfillment of the criteria in terms of the tes analyzed, inferential analysis to the test the research hypothesis. The data were analyzed using correlation and multiple regression. The findings showed that (1) learning discipline and logical mathematical intelligence had a positive and significant simultaneous impact on mathematics achievement. (2) learning discipline had a positive and significant impact on mathematics achievement. (3) logical mathematical intelligence had a positive and significant impact on mathematics achievement. </p>

The expansion from the domestic market to the international market has become increasingly important for construction business including that of Nigerian Contractors amidst saturated local market, more patronage to foreign Contractors by the sector, stiff competition, political rivalry, insecurity and dwindling economic situation in the country. These factors have left most Contractors vulnerable for years without contract awards thereby resulting in retrenchments, inability to remit value-added tax (VAT), unsustained company’s profitability, heavy financial risk, practice and technology drain, bankruptcy, merging of companies as well as redundancy. Thus, the aim of the paper is to evaluate sound prospects for economic boost by the involvement of indigenous Contractors in oversea’s projects. The research was built on the foundation of stage growth theory which postulated that countries should modernize and model themselves after wealthier and economical viable ones to climb the upward ladder for development. The paper adopted a survey design method in which a total of 150 questionnaires were administered representing the sample size and 120 copies filled and submitted completely was achieved through a simple random sampling technique from the target population of 240 Federal Government-registered Indigenous Contractors in the South-South geo-political zone of Nigeria. Data analysis was done through simple percentages, frequencies, mean as well as statistics tools-analysis of variance (one-way ANOVA) to test the effect of one variable on another. The results showed that high profit and revenue, expansion of subsidiaries, foreign direct investment (FDI), new technological strength, the local and foreign government supports, amongst others were ranked 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th respectively as key prospects that will be achieved for the economic recovery of the nation. Also, competing in a foreign contract will lower the cost of the project in the country. The paper tested a hypothesis: whether there is value addition on the nation economy via indigenous contractor participation in the foreign project. The alternative hypothesis H1 was accepted since the f-calculated value of 64.24 was greater than the table f-value of 5.29 at 4/20 degree of freedom tested at 0.01 level of significance. It then concluded that Indigenous contractors has not been involved significantly in the overseas project, hence; it recommended an integrated approach, developing external wings, good industry practices, technical and dynamic capabilities, collective championing and depoliticizing construction contract for maximum participation.

The performance of Muslim Founded educational institutions has picked a lot of interest globally over the years. The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council established structures at different levels of administration to participate in the monitoring of Muslim-founded Schools. This study premised on Osborne and Gaebler's (1992) constructs of monitoring, aimed at investigating how monitoring skills of the foundation body representatives on the School Management Committees contribute to the performance of Government Aided Muslim Founded Primary Schools in Uganda, taking a case of the BMDC. A descriptive cross-sectional survey design was adopted for this study, with quantitative and qualitative data approaches, while multivariable linear regression was used to obtain the magnitude of the contribution of SMC monitoring skills to the performance of the primary schools under BMDC. The study revealed that monitoring skills have a positive correlation with the performance of the Government Aided Muslim Founded Primary Schools, though, the correlation is moderate. The moderate correlation is caused by insufficient monitoring skills exhibited by the foundation body representatives in areas such as the development of performance indicators, collection of relevant data during monitoring, designing of monitoring tools, and usage of appropriate methods during monitoring. The study, therefore, concluded that such insufficient monitoring skills have hindered them to adequately monitor which has partly affected the performance of the schools. It is as such recommended that BMDC needs to incorporate specific non-financial empowerment capacity-building components into school activities tailored to train the members on the SMC in aspects of monitoring and evaluation, adult literacy, and financial literacy for improved skills, knowledge, and leadership.

Tax reporting is the responsibility of taxpayers after making tax payments. The mismatch between the number of registered taxpayers and the number of taxpayers who report taxes is a separate problem for the government in managing the tax results received. Where the number who report taxes is very small compared to the number of registered taxpayers. Based on these problems, the purpose of this study is to determine the factors that influence individual taxpayer reporting compliance. The population used by all individual taxpayers who are registered at KPP Pratama Batam Selatan. While the sample was taken through simple random sampling technique with the Slovin formula so that the sample used was 100 respondents. Data analysis techniques are data instrument test, classical assumptions, descriptive analysis and hypothesis testing with the help of SPSS. The results obtained, partially the application of e-filling and tax sanctions has a significant effect on tax reporting compliance while tax awareness and understanding have no significant effect. The f test results show that all the independent variables simultaneously have a significant effect on the dependent variable.

<div><p>Teachers often find themselves frustrated at work because of conflicting expectations concerning their professional and social roles within the community. This paper looks at the effect of teachers’ perception of their profession on their satisfaction at job and performance. The authors employ a survey design in private schools in Yei Town, South Sudan to establish the impact of these perceptions. Simple random sampling technique was used to select the respondents from ten private schools. The respondents’ therefore included 10 head teachers, 100 teachers giving a total of 110 respondents. Questionnaires were used for data collection. Data collected was analysed by the use of Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 12.0 was and presented in frequencies and percentages and a regression analysis performed to establish the relationships among the variables. The study findings indicated that a considerable number of the teachers (38.9%) indicated that teacher’s own perception of their own profession does not affect the teachers’ job satisfaction and performance.</p></div>

Purpose: The purpose of the study was to evaluate the profitability of poultry and pig investment projects in Meru TownMethodology: This study adopted a descriptive survey design. The study targeted a population of all the farmers located at Meru town.  According to the Meru town statistics, there are 210 farmers in Meru town. Simple random sampling was used to select a sample of 20% from the population. Therefore, 42 farmers i.e. 20% of 210 were picked at random. The researcher used a questionnaire which was administered to the selected sample population respondents on a drop and pick basis. The data collected was analyzed by use of descriptive statistics. In particular, frequency tables, averages and percentages were used. The data analysis actually involved simple tabulation and presentation of report generated form spreadsheets i.e. excel. The data was then presented using tables, graphs and charts.Results: The study concluded that the success rate of poultry and pig farming projects was low as evidenced by a maturation rate of 51 to 60 percent of the stock. The rest of the stock either died or didn’t lay eggs. In addition, the study concluded that despite the low success rate; poultry and pig farming were described as profitable compared to other investments. However, several challenges related to cost of production, infrastructural factors as well as market oriented factors posed a serious challenge to poultry and pig farming. These factors ranged from high cost of feeds to poor selling prices and shrinking markets as well as competition from subsidized imports.Unique contribution to theory, practice and policy:  The study recommended that the bottlenecks associated with the poultry and pig projects be eliminated through a committed effort from the government to subsidize the cost of inputs, establishment of marketing associations and the elimination of middlemen in the sale of produce, improvement in extension services, and the provision of good infrastructure. While the challenges outlined in the study relate primarily to infrastructural and institutional bottlenecks, it might be interesting to study the role of entrepreneurial/management skills and general education on the success or otherwise of poultry and pig farming.
