Introduction: Endometriosis represents the aberrant implantation of endometrial tissue, respectively outside the uterus. It is one of the gynecological diseases with a great impact on the patient’s quality of life and especially on the fertility aspects. Due to the aberrant implantation, this disease can theoretically affect any organ in the abdominal and retroperitoneal cavity. Thus, cases involving the organs of the urinary tract are not a surprise. Material and methods: The present paper focuses on the urological impairment of endometriosis, etiology according to various hypotheses and an update of existing treatment methods. The possible proposals of therapeutic guides found in the literature are also taken into account. Results: The urological condition of this disease seems to increase in frequency in recent years. If in the case of asymptomatic patients an expectant attitude can be approached in relative safety, the local invasive nature of the disease, which can lead to the loss of the function of the various organs of the urinary tract, must not be omitted. In the case of symptomatic patients, the treatment is either hormonal or surgical, lately there is a tendency to combine the two types of treatment. Being a condition with relatively rare urological involvement, the differential diagnosis often omits endometriosis. There are currently several plausible guide proposals, but it takes time and richer casuistry to be able to standardize them. From the point of view of surgical treatment, there is a tendency to introduce robotic surgery in the therapeutic arsenal of this disease, both in the case of classical endometriosis and in the case of urological involvement.

Background/Aim. Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a pathological process, which is one of the most common causes of so-called lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). LUTS affect many aspects of daily activities and almost all domains of health-related quality of life (HRQoL). The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of operative treatment of BPH using standard clinical diagnostic procedures and effects on LUTS using the symptom-score validated to Serbian language as well as implications on HRQoL. Methods. Seventy-four patients underwent surgical treatment for BPH. The study protocol included objective and subjective parameters of the following sets of variables measured before and after the surgery: voiding and incontinence symptoms were measured using the International Continence Society male Short Form (ICS male SF) questionnaire, HRQoL was measured using the SF-36 questionnaire along with standard clinical measurement of residual urine and urine flow. Results. After the surgery, all patients had decrease of voiding scores (13.5 ? 3.3 before and 1.5 ? 1.4 after surgery) and incontinence symptoms (5.7 ? 3.9 before and 0.6 ? 0.8 after surgery) in comparison to period before operative treatment. Significant improvements in all dimensions of HRQoL were noticed, particularly in emotional health. Although mental and physical total scores were significantly better than prior to the surgery, the level of improvement of voiding and incontinence scores were significantly correlated only with the level of improvement of mental score. Conclusion. After BPH surgery, patients are likely to have normal voiding symptoms, barely some involuntary control over urination and overll better HRQoL, particularly in emotional domain.

The review of the literature examines the study of the quality of life of patients in the older age group after cardiac surgery for heart disease. In recent years, the number of elderly people has increased significantly in many countries. As a result of this phenomenon, cardiologists and cardiac surgeons are increasingly confronted in their practice with elderly patients. There are features of the management of cardiac and cardiac surgical patients of advanced age, caused both by the specifics of the underlying disease and by concomitant diseases. With the emergence of new options for evaluating the effectiveness of various methods of surgical correction of heart disease in age patients, new questions arise that require evidentiary consideration and an optimal answer. Opinions of experts about the feasibility of surgical interventions in the elderly are often different. The urgency of the problem is due to the recent increase in the number of heart operations in the group of age-related patients. The study of the quality of life of patients in the postoperative period helps to determine the most rational and optimal method of surgical treatment, not only from the point of view of the cardiac surgeon, but also from the standpoint of assessing the patient himself. In addition, frequent postoperative complications and recurrences of diseases force specialists to focus on the quality of life of patients after surgery, which makes the problem extremely urgent.

This study aims to assess the impact of medical and surgical treatment on treating lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) on pain, prostatic symptoms, disease-specific quality of life and health-related quality of life. Patients scheduled for medical (alpha-blockers) and surgical treatment (transurethral resection of the prostate, TURP) were recruited in the study. The patients were assessed using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Present Pain Intensity (PPI), International Prostate Symptom Score (I-PSS) and Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQOL) at 3-month, 6-month and 12-month (baseline). Before treatment, most of the patients with LUTS had severe pain, LUTS and deterioration of health-related quality of life. Following treatment, both medical and surgical treatment improved their pain, LUTS and health-related quality of life. Both treatments are effective in relieving the symptoms of pain, LUTS and health-related quality of life. Asia Pac J Public Health 2000;12(2): 107- 117

Introduction. Benign hyperplasia of prostate (BPH) is still one of the most common urological diseases of elderly and senile age. Transurethral resection of prostate (TURP) is considered as a gold standard of BPH surgical treatment. However, TURP is recommended for prostates with volume up to 80 cm3 . In this connection new minimally invasive methods are being searched permanently to improve the results of surgical treatment of patients with prostate volume exceeding 80 cm3 . Materials and methods. The results of 150 cases of HoLEP performed by a single surgeon in the period from June 2018 till December 2019 are analyzed. Average age 67,8 (±7,7) years. Preoperative examination besides general clinical tests, IPSS, TRUS of prostate, uroflowmetry, US-measure of postvoiding residual volume (PVR), PSA testing. The median of prostate volume was 74 (29-272) сm3 , 94 (62%) patients were able to urinate with average Qmax of 7 (2-25) ml/sec, average IPSS score was 21.6 ± 4.4, chronic urinary retention (PVR > 100 ml) was diagnosed in 44 (29%) patients. 56 (38%) patients had suprapubic catheter. Hemoglobin before surgery 142.6 ± 12.3 g/l. Surgery was performed with holmium laser Lumenis Pulse 100H. Postoperative control tests were performed before discharge of patients from the hospital. Results. The median of surgery time was 90 (30 – 180) min. The mean estimated blood loss was 133,4 ± 14,3 g/l. We drained bladders with urethral catheters for 3.0 (1-5) days in average. Average Qmax was 22,9 ± 8,6 ml/sec and PVR was 55,0 ± 8,0 ml. Average hospital stay was 5,0 (2-15) days. Intra- and postoperative complications were: perforation of bladder wall in 4,6% cases, perforation of prostate capsule in 7.3% patients, residual tissue in the bladder after morcellation in 2,6% cases, clot retention in 5,3% cases, 1,3% patients needed blood transfusion, acute urinary retention after urethral catheter removal was in 8.6% cases, acute bacterial prostatitis in 3.3% patients, acute urethritis in 2.6% cases, acute epididymo-orchitis in 4% cases, stress urinary incontinence in 14% patients. Discussion. At present, the search for new techniques to improve the quality of surgical treatment of BPH, including with a large pancreatic volume, is not stopped. The developed «laser technologies» are aimed at reducing the risk of complications and improving the quality of life of patients in the postoperative period. The results of numerous studies and our results carried out indicate the high clinical efficiency of the holmium laser, the possibility of its application for large and gigantic pancreatic sizes. It should be noted that the safety level of HoLEP is higher, the period of bladder catheterization is shorter, the patient's stay in the hospital and financial costs are less, and the quality of life after surgery is higher. The results obtained are comparable with the data of the international literature and indicate the high efficiency and relative safety of HoLEP. Conclusion. The obtained results indicate the high efficiency and relative safety of HoLEP in the surgical treatment of BPH, regardless of its volume. The results obtained allow us to assert that there is a new «gold standard» for surgical treatment of BPH and consider the possibility of introducing HoLEP into the standards of medical care for urological patients with BPH.

Quality of life and satisfaction with life as tightly interconnected concepts have become of much importance in the urbanism era. No doubt, it is one of the most important goals of every human society to enhance a citizen’s quality of life and to increase their satisfaction with life. However, there are many signs which demonstrate the low level of life satisfaction of Iranian citizens especially among the youth. Thus, considering the temporal concept of life satisfaction, this research aims to make a futures study in this field. Therefore, using a mixed model and employing research methods from futures studies, life satisfaction among the students of the University of Tehran were measured and their views on this subject investigated. Both quantitative and qualitative data were analysed together in order to test the hypotheses and to address the research questions on the youth discontentment with quality of life. Findings showed that the level of life satisfaction among students is relatively low and their image of the future is not positive and not optimistic. These views were elicited and discussed in the social, economic, political, environmental and technological perspectives. Keywords:  futures studies, quality of life, satisfaction with life, youth
