Scope creep has been a day-to-day occurrence in almost every major road project causing a considerable cost overrun with no early dimple. This paper offers a critical appraisal on the dominant causes behind scope creep in the road projects. A comprehensive literature survey was undertaken to explore the factors specifically contributing scope creep and various control measures that are adopted, among other purposes, in at least reducing the impact due to scope creep in the final delivery of road projects. The study included interviews with 15 experts to identify major issues and add their hands-on experience. A questionnaire survey was subsequently administered among 100 industrial personnel having a cost management background in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the key performance indicators (KPIs) in terms of taming scope creep. Results from the study showed that concomitant client instructions on additional features, unclear scope and incremental changes cause scope creep throughout the project. Among 53 KPIs identified, the most effective KPI that enables adequate control of scope creep in road projects is the cost efficiency ratio. The results enable comprehending the causes of scope creep and its resultant net effect on cost control.

The implementation of the road project in Wonogiri Regency was often different between the planning with has be held that making problem for contractor like as late work and cost overrun. Therefore, the purpose of this research is knowing what is cost overrun factors and also amount of cost overruns of the road project in Wonogiri Regency which used APBD 2017 and 2018 experienced by contractor. This research was conducted by asking questions to the contractor who worked on the road project in 2017 and 2018. The analysis of this research has using the SPSS program. Based on the analysis has been done, field regulation become dominant of cost overrun. The lack of provision of field support facilities and the limited size of the project area are the reasons why field regulation factors can be a major factor causing cost overruns on road projects in Wonogiri Regency. Based on the answers from respondents it can be concluded that the contractors who experienced a swelling cost of 1% -5% there were 44 respondents, then for the cost swelling of 6% -10% there were 28 respondents, and 11% -15% there were 2 respondents, and 16% -20% only 1 respondent.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the causes of road construction delays in Ghana and identify appropriate mitigation measures. Design/methodology/approach The initial approach involved an empirical analysis of 48 road projects to quantify the extent of time. This was followed by a survey of the perception of road agency and donor partner officials of the critical causes of road project delays. Findings About 70 per cent of road projects experience delays and 52 per cent experience cost overruns. The average time overrun and cost overruns of road projects in Ghana was 17 months and US$1.15m (or 22.5 per cent), respectively. The five most critical causes of road construction delays were delay in finance and payment of completed work by owner (client-related); inadequate contractor experience (contractor-related); changes in scope by the owner during construction (client-related); delay to furnish and deliver the site to the contractor (client-related); and inflexible funding allocation for project items (donor-related). Research limitations/implications The most critical constraint of this study is the fact that findings are based on only the views of industry professional experts. It may be assumed that despite using broadly used terminology to refer to the causes of project delays, the interpretations by respondents may have differed from those intended. Further research could look at the correlation between time overrun and cost overrun using principle component analysis. Practical implications The identified delay factors are not unique to the road sector. From both academic and practical perspectives, the results emphasizes on the need for a holistic and integrated risk management model for the entire construction industry in Ghana. Originality/value The paper examined the causes of road project delays in the Ghanaian context and recommended remedial measures.

Relevance of the study: Based on data collection and analysis, present research made it possible to identify how the activities devised by a group-buying website on Facebook may exert influence on the KPIs for success.Purpose: The main task of present research is to answer the following question: can a digital social network be considered an effective tool for the improvement of key performance indicators (KPI) of a group-buying website?Findings: The research was conducted by considering data collected via mechanical observation using the computational tools Facebook Dashboard and Google Analytics. Data were analyzed using the means of comparison and a Pearson correlation coefficient, which demonstrated positive results of the campaign. When compared, the key performance indicators of the web site relating to Facebook displayed a larger dynamics than the general performance indicators of this web site. By the correlation coefficient, it was found that a higher power range of the Facebook Enterprise´s fan page could result in the increased traffic page hits of the examined web site, and an increase, mainly, in the number of new visitors.Originality / value: This paper analyzes some key performance indicators of a promotional campaign on Facebook for an online group-buying website in the city of Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo State, Brazil.Practical implications: Based on the collected data and performed analysis, it was found that the promotional activities on Facebook can increase the flow of new visitors and attract potential buyers to a group-buying website.Future research: It is recommended to perform further research for other social networks and in other countries.

This paper presents the results of a study evaluating the impact of anticipated reductions in OSHA worker exposure limits for airborne contaminants, nickel (Ni), manganese (Mn), and hexavalent chromium (Cr6) on the shipbuilding industry. As part of the study field evaluation, air monitoring and data analysis were conducted to measure the effectiveness of a series of exposure control methods including fume extractor guns, ixed fume extraction systems, portable fume extraction systems, low fume welding wires, downdraft/backdraft tables, and fume iltration devices. Six shipyards participated in this study. The study concluded that the cost of compliance increases greatly with lower exposure limits. It was recommended that the shipbuilding industry continue to develop and evaluate feasible control measures in anticipation of revised standards.

This chapter explores ngā takepū relationships that positively influence kaiako and ākonga engagement within Te Wānanga o Aotearoa. The focus is on the impact of whanaungatanga, wairuatanga, whakapono, kaitiakitanga, and āhurutanga within the ako process. The approach of being accountable and responsible through key performance indicators are compared to ngā takepū as hoa haere or kaitiaki that are markers of a softer approach. Ngā takepū advocacy of responsibility and accountability are explained as well as their gentle touch as constant reminders of what is just, fair, honorable, and right in the pursuit of mauri ora for all.

Abstract Objective The aim of the study was to evaluate a technological solution in the form of an App to implement and measure person-centredness in nursing. The focus was to enhance the knowledge transfer of a set of person-centred key performance indicators and the corresponding measurement framework used to inform improvements in the experience of care. Design The study used an evaluation approach derived from the work of the Medical Research Council to assess the feasibility of the App and establish the degree to which the App was meeting the aims set out in the development phase. Evaluation data were collected using focus groups (n = 7) and semi-structured interviews (n = 7) to capture the impact of processes experienced by participating sites. Setting The study was conducted in the UK and Australia in two organizations, across 11 participating sites. Participants 22 nurses from 11 sites in two large health care organizations were recruited on a voluntary basis. Intervention Implementing the KPIs and measurement framework via the APP through two cycles of data collection. Main Outcome Measures The main outcome was to establish feasibility in the use of the App. Results The majority of nurse/midwife participants found the App easy to use. There was broad consensus that the App was an effective method to measure the patient experience and generated clear, concise reports in real time. Conclusions The implementation of the person-centred key performance indicators using the App enhanced the generation of meaningful data to evidence patient experience across a range of different clinical settings.

Within the ramp-up phase of highly automated assembly systems, the planning effort forms a large part of production costs. Due to shortening product lifecycles, changing customer demands, and therefore an increasing number of ramp-up processes, these costs even rise. So assembly systems should reduce these efforts and simultaneously be flexible for quick adaption to changes in products and their variants. A cognitive interaction system in the field of assembly planning systems is developed within the Cluster of Excellence “Integrative production technology for high-wage countries” at RWTH Aachen University which integrates several cognitive capabilities according to human cognition. This approach combines the advantages of automation with the flexibility of humans. In this paper the main principles of the system's core component—the cognitive control unit—are presented to underline its advantages with respect to traditional assembly systems. Based on this, the actual innovation of this paper is the development of key performance indicators. These refer to the ramp-up process as a main objective of such a system is to minimize the planning effort during ramp-up. The KPIs are also designed to show the impact on the main idea of the Cluster of Excellence in resolving the so-called Polylemma of Production.

The weaving section, as a typical bottleneck, is one source of vehicle conflicts and an accident-prone area. Traffic accident will block lanes and the road capacity will be reduced. Several models have been established to study the dynamics around traffic bottlenecks. However, little attention has been paid to study the complex traffic dynamics influenced by the combined effects of bottleneck and accident. This paper presents a cellular automaton model to characterize accident-induced traffic behavior around the weaving section. Some effective control measures are proposed and verified for traffic management under accident condition. The total flux as a function of inflow rates, the phase diagrams, the spatial-temporal diagrams, and the density and velocity profiles are presented to analyze the impact of accident. It was shown that the proposed control measures for weaving traffic can improve the capacity of weaving section under both normal and accident conditions; the accidents occurring on median lane in the weaving section are more inclined to cause traffic jam and reduce road capacity; the capacity of weaving section will be greatly reduced when the accident happens downstream the weaving section.

In an attempt to reduce noise from roll former shears three noise abatement enclosures of different designs and sheet dampers were assessed. Results indicate that only a noise reduction of 5dB can be achieved at the operator position by noise abatement enclosures, virtually independent of their designs and materials. This rather poor performance of enclosures is basically caused by structure-borne paths whereby vibrations are transmitted through the metal sheet product itself from the inside of the enclosure to the outside. Sheet dampers which have been designed to reduce the impact induced vibrations of the sheet product achieves a similar noise reduction as the enclosures but at about one quarter of the cost.
