The research on the development of "Listening" practice using Text2Speech Applications aims to develop teaching of English, ‘Listening’ for teachers and students who are not experts in the field of information technology. This study tries to discuss how to adopt and adapt Text-to-Speech software / applications in teaching and learning of English. Text2Speech is a computer application (software) that makes it possible to convert written text into spoken text so that it can be heard. By using the Text2Speech application, written text in MS Word format can be converted into spoken text. Text2Speech allows any text to be read in a computer-synthesized voice. By utilizing Text2Speech, written text can be read and sounded so that it can be heard by the user. Text2Speech allows users to determine how to pronounce a word, phrase, sentence, and even text or parts of text. By utilizing the Text2Speech application, teachers and students get "listening" learning materials in native speakers' voices, so that students get used to hearing "listening" teaching materials from native speakers.

Due to the many potential benefits and drama can offer in language learning, there has been a growing interest to use drama in ESL/EFL classrooms. However, the practice still causes many difficulties to both teachers and students due to several factors. This article reviews current theories and research findings on the use of drama in ESL/EFL teaching and learning to provide a better understanding of the use of drama to facilitate learning in EFL classrooms. It begins with current theories behind drama use in English learning. This section tries to clarify what drama is in the context of ESL/EFL, what benefits it offers, and what challenges teachers potentially meet. After that, the discussion focuses on a practical guideline for using drama in the classroom. It proceeds with a brief description of some useful drama techniques. The article ends by offering some concluding remarks.

Nowadays, English plays an increasingly important role in international communication. Vocabulary plays the important role in the process of English learning and teaching. Although the significance of the vocabulary teaching and learning have been noticed by the teachers and students, the current situation of English vocabulary teaching and learning is not satisfactory in most Chinese schools. This paper applies the prototype theory and other related theories, which contains the three levels of categorization and two cognitive mechanism, to vocabulary teaching and learning. The paper aims at exploring the implications that prototype theory indicates in English vocabulary teaching and learning, finding out the crux of English vocabulary teaching and learning. Teachers need to consciously foster students’ metaphorical and metonymical awareness when teaching vocabulary.

The paper deals with the issue of application possibilities of MOOC platforms in IT specialist training. It is emphasized that this problem is urgent due to the coronavirus pandemic which caused reconsideration of educational approaches, means and tools. In the study the analysis of the most demanded massive open online course platforms in terms of IT specialist training is presented. Challenges of MOOCs for teaching and learning foreign languages are highlighted. Profession-related, soft skill mastering and English learning courses have been scrutinized in terms of their content and user-friendliness by teachers and students of two universities. Design, layout, topics, communities, documentation, and application availability have been evaluated and ranked. Three online English courses of similar purpose on Coursera, FutureLearn and Prometheus have been compared and ranked with the aim to advise the most efficient one to senior undergraduates striving to be employed in Ukraine and abroad in the multicultural IT environment.

Abstract: In this 21st century era therm of Mobile Assisted Language Learning becomes a part of teaching and learning activity in English Education. Mobile Assisted Language learning offers various benefits to both teachers and students. Though, it offers various benefits, in practice it is still debatable thing. Thus, this research was tried to investigate students’ perception towards the implementation of MALL in their learning process. The research was taken at Senior High School in SMAN 1 Dukupuntang. This current study use descriptive qualitative method, and the data were collected through open-ended questionnaires and interview to get the relevant data. The present research shows that students tend to have good perception on the implementation of MALL in English Learning. In using MALL, students use several applications and software to help them study about English Language both inside and outside the classroom. By using MALL, students feel that it was more enjoyable and able to get the information quickly. This research also shows the challenges that faced by the students when they use MALL in English Learning activity. In conclusion, this research shows that students’ have positive perception towards MALL in English Learning.

In supporting learning for Deaf or Hard of Hearing/DHH children, it is not easy finding learning sources that are accessible online, especially in English. Furthermore, during the COVID-19 pandemic, when learning was required to be carried out online, there were no learning applications that included English sign language that could be used by teachers and students as learning media. Thus, this study aims to analyze the need for developing multimedia-based English learning materials for Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH) children. This qualitative study involved DHH students and instructors in Special School (SLB), Bali. The need analysis was conducted to identify the ongoing situation of DHH children in the context of developing English multimedia learning materials. Interview and observation techniques applying two types of instruments in the form of an interview guide and field notes were used to collect the information towards the English learning needs for DHH children. The results of the study identified several needs that underlie the development of English multimedia learning materials, namely inadequate English instructors, text-based teaching materials, and the less than optimal teaching and learning process during the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, the development of multimedia-based English learning materials is needed.

Since Educational industry 4.0 reflects the current style of teaching and learning process, the integration of technology-based learning media has been highly demanded. Thus, various types of learning media including video have been widely implemented. This policy was then the basis of this present study to describe teachers’ and students’ response towards the implementation of animated learning video developed by using Camtasia in elementary schools. This study made use of a descriptive qualitative study. The data were collected through observation, questionnaire, and interviews. The result of this study clearly indicates that by offering animated learning video, the learning activity becomes more attractive even more affects the students’ understanding, especially in building vocabulary mastery. As the result, the animated learning video developed has been acknowledged as an effective learning media. As the advantage, this study can enrich students’ learning experience in learning English.

Teaching and learning English as a foreign language in a non-native community poses a lot of challenges to both teachers and students. While it is commonly shared that in-class learning does not guarantee the success of the learning, the need for the extension of learning opportunities beyond the class has been remarkably increasing, encouraging English educators to create an environment for English learning beyond the class door. This study aims to set up such environment for non-English majors at Thai Nguyen University of Education, Vietnam. A series of out-of-class English activities were conducted during October 2020 to May 2021 for non-English majors at the University. 200 students joined the study as questionnaire respondents in two phases (before and after the implement of the activities) and 10 students were selected for focus group interview. Results revealed that the majority of the students believed in-class English learning were insufficient for their demands and needs and thus expected similar activities should be carried out beyond the class. The research would be a significant case study to illustrate that efforts to include out-of-class activities in the learning process should be encouraged for the development of an extended language learning environment for the benefits of the students in places where English is largely limited within the classroom walls.

Technology and computers have affected teaching and learning English in tertiary education worldwide. It is seen as an important resource for instruction in foreign language teaching. There is a wide use of its ability to create online environments in which students can take the benefits from them. The Department of Foreign Languages (DFL) ​​of Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport (UT-HCMC) recognizes the importance and the effectiveness of online English learning in the information technology era. Just a networked computer or smart phone, a headset and a course account, students can learn English anytime, anywhere. Online English learning can match different learning styles and use different activities. Currently, the Department is using the Social Learning software of Knowledge Transmission Publisher, with the simple content, high cost and the relatively low level compared to the required learning outcomes stipulated by Vietnam Ministry of Education and Training (MOET). The DFL wishes to build our own online English program to overcome the above disadvantages. Thus, this research paper explores teachers’ and students’ viewpoints on the present online program which has been used for the UT-HCMC students for the past 5 years- The Online Connected Program (OCP). The analysis of the responses to the questionnaires for teachers and students provides us with their perspectives as well as the difficulties they face when using OCP. The teachers’ and students’ suggestions are also collected. The findings obtained from this study will be used as the basis for designing a self-study online curriculum in the near future as a supplementary teaching adapted for both UT-HCMC students’ needs and UT-HCMC teachers’ expectations. The researchers present some conclusions supported by quotations from the previous papers in an attempt to draw the research theory and practice.

The Nihongo Partner Program or “Japanese Language Partner” is a program that sends native speakers to support the teaching and learning of Japanese overseas. The program is fully sponsored by The Japan Foundation. The aim of this program is to create an environment that motivates the students to learn Japanese. This study is based on a survey of the Nihongo Partner Program conducted on students and language lecturers at UiTM, Shah Alam. This study aims to investigate if there is a necessity for native speakers to be involved in the teaching and learning of Japanese among foreign language learners. Analysis of the results showed that both students and lecturers are in dire need of the Nihongo Partner Program to navigate the learning of the Japanese language through a variety of language learning activities. The involvement of native speaker increases students’ confidence and motivation to converse in Japanese. The program also provides opportunities for students to increase their Japanese language proficiency and lexical density. In addition, with the opportunity to interact with the native speakers, students and lecturers will have a better understanding of Japanese culture as they are able to observe and ask the native speakers. Involvement of native speakers is essential in teaching and learning of Japanese in UiTM.
