The research attempts to investigate the result of students’ writing ability through the use of Mind Mapping Technique. It also describes the implementation of mind mapping technique in teaching writing, describes the students’ response and describes the students’ improvement. The subjects were The First Graders of STIKES Muhammadiyah Kendal in the Academic Year of 2018/2019. The type of this research is a classroom action research. In this research there are two cycles, and every cycle consisted of three meetings, and the end of each meeting the researcher conducts the post test to measure the improvement of the students’ writing ability. The data are collected by using observation lists, interview, field notes, documentation, and writing test. In analyzing data the researcher describes the mean of the students based on their score to know the students’ improvement in every cycle. There are two techniques to analyze the data. They are qualitative and quantitative method. To enhance the trustworthiness of the data and to reduce the subjectivity in analyzing the data, the researcher uses triangulation method. The result of this research is mind mapping is an appropriate technique to be used in improving the students’ writing ability.

The purpose of this research was to see the effects of Mind Mapping Technique toward students’ writing ability especially in writing descriptive text.  The results of Post-test experiment and control class were used to confirm the hypothesis. The population of this research was all of the students at X grade of  Senior High School 3 Padang Panjang, consisting of 96 students who spread in 3 classes. Two classes were taken as sample by using cluster random sampling.  Writing test was used to collect the data. The treatments were done in six meetings. The data of this research were analyzed by using Statistical Product and Service Solution (SPSS) Program. The result showed that the mean score of students’ post-test at experimental class was (65.94) higher than those of control class (58.16). The  calculation of the test showed that t-calculate was (8.27) higher than t-table (1.67) at the significant level of .05 meaning that students who were taught through Mind Mapping technique produced better writing skills in descriptive text.  It can be concluded that teaching writing by using mind mapping technique gave significant difference on students’ writing ability at X grade of Senior High School 3 Padang Panjang. Therefore it is recommended that English teachers should use this technique to improve students’ writing ability.

  This study aimed to investigate the effect of anonymous peer assessment on students’ writing ability. Quantitative approach was used in this study. Post-test only control group design was the design used in this experimental study. The post-test only control group design was designed to discover the purpose of this study which was to investigate the significant effect on writing ability between students who obtain feedback from anonymous peer assessment and students who obtain feedback from conventional assessment. The study was conducted at SMK PGRI 1 Singaraja. The eleventh grade students in Academic Year 2017/2018 were chosen as the population. The samples were 44 students from XI AP and XI UPW. The instruments used in this study were lesson plan, anonymous peer checklist, writing scoring rubric, and writing test. Writing scoring rubric and writing test were used to obtain the data through post-test while lesson plan and anonymous peer assessment were used during the treatment. The data then was analyzed by using SPSS 16. The results of the analysis show that (1) the mean score of the experimental group was 77.55 while the mean score of the control group was 68.77. (2) The t-observe was 3.892 and it exceeded the t-critical value which was 2.018. Therefore, based on the aforementioned results, it can be concluded that there was a significant difference on writing ability between the eleventh grade students who obtained feedback from anonymous peer assessment and those who obtained feedback from conventional assessment at SMK PGRI 1 Singaraja in academic year 2017/2018.

The objective of this study is to find the use of mind mapping on improving students’ writing ability, especially for biographical recount text at the tenthgrade students of SMAN 7 Kota Tangerang in the academic year of 2018/2019.The sample of this study were 35 students. This study used quantitative method with pre – experimental design by using one group pre –test and post – test. The result of the research shows that there is a significant difference in student’s writing ability between tenth grade students of SMAN 7 Kota Tangerang before and after taught using the mind mapping technique. It can be seen in the result of the study, the average pre – test score of experiment class students is 68.26 and the average post – test score of experiment class students is 85.40. It means that there is a significant difference in students’ writing ability between tenth grade students of SMAN 7 Kota Tangerang before and after taught using the mind mapping technique. The research hypothesis is proven that using mind mapping technique in teaching writing especially in recount text makes the students’ writing score higher.

This research is applied to tenth graders of SMKN 1 Pungging to investigate the influence of teaching writing descriptive text ability using mind mapping technique with think pair share strategy. This population of this research is the tent graders that consist of 620 students which is taken 64 students as the sample. There are two classes; they are X TKJ 1 which is applied by teaching writing descriptive text using mapping technique with think pair share strategy and X TKJ 2 which is taught writing descriptive text by conventional technique. However, both of the groups were taught the same materials based on the curriculum. This study used pretest-posttest non-equivalent control group design for experimental and control groups. The pre test and post test were administered not only to the experimental group but also the control group. The pre test is as starting point to verify the condition of both groups. Finally,  at the end of the treatment, the experimental group and the control group received a post test; the result of the post test was to define the significance difference between the experimental group and the control group. The result is there is significance difference between the classes which is taught writing descriptive text using mind mapping technique with think pair share strategy and which is taught writing descriptive by the conventional technique. The result calculated by SPSS 20.0; it is a computer program statistical calculation and the result is further discussed in Hypothesis Testing. It is approved that the mean of post-test of experimental group is increased from 58.28 to 80.16. It can be noticed that the mean of the post-test of experimental is 21.72 higher than the mean of post-test of control group.

<p>This research entitled: “The Effectiveness of Using Photograph in Teaching Writing” is intended to find out whether there is significantly different in writing ability between the experimental group and the control group.</p><p>This research employed experimental design. The participants of the study were the tenth-grade students at SMAN 1 Karau Kuala in the academic year 2013/2014. Two classes were used in this research. There were X-C as the Experimental group and X-D as the control group. The research instrument used was a writing test in the form of essay test. The data in this research were mainly gathered through the use of pre-test and post-test. The data were analyzed by measuring t-test and SPSS program to calculate the t-value from the score. The finding of the research shows that there is a significant difference between teaching writing by using photograph and teaching writing without using photograph. After the treatments, the mean is 75.43 the standard deviation is 9.370 the df is 44, and the significance is 0.00. If the significance is smaller than 0.05, it means there is a significant difference between teaching writing by using photograph and teaching writing without using photograph. </p>

The objective of this research is to know whether the students’ ability in writing descriptive text using mind mapping in Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Banggai can improve or not and to know how mind mapping improve the students’ ability of writing. This research was quasi experimental research by using non-equivalent design. The population of this research were all of the tenth grade students’ in Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Banggai. The sample were X science 1 and X science 2 and consist of 35 and 34 students. The instrument of this research was written test. The kinds of test were pre-test and post-test. The mean of pre-test score in experimental class is 41 and the mean of post-test in experimental class is 83. The mean of pre-test score in controlled class is 37.35 and the mean of post-test in controlled class is 47.65. From the calculation of tcounted was higher than ttable, the result of tcounted is 18.80 meanwhile ttable in the degree of significance 0.05 is 1.66792. If the tcounted> ttable, it means that Ha is accepted. It shows that the comparison of tcounted and ttable is 18.80 > 1.66792. In the other words the alternative hypothesis is proven. It assumed that mind mapping technique can improve the students’ ability of writing descriptive text.Keywords: Writing Ability; Descriptive Text; Mind Mapping.

Writing is the most important human invention which provides a relatively permanent record of information, opinions, benefits, feelings, arguments, explanations, and theories. Many students are still confused how to write a text because they do not know the rules and they can not express their ideas into written form. One of the techniques to improve students’ writing skill is Dictogloss Technique. The method that is used in this research is Classroom Action Research (CAR). The subject of this research are 35 students of class VIII-4 of SMP Negeri 31 Medan in the academic year of 2018/2019. Tests, observation sheets, field notes, and questionnaire were used as the instruments for collecting the data. The result of this study showed increasing score of students’ writing descriptive text. The result of the test showed that the students’ mean score in pre-test is 60 with 0% students got score 75, in formative test the mean score is 76.71 with 60% students got score 75 and in post-test the mean score is 80.85 with 94% students got score 75. It showed that the percentage improvement of the students’ mean score from pre-test to post-test was 94%. The response of students after being taught by using Dictogloss Technique are good. The students enjoyed the process of teaching and learning. It is suggested that teachers use Dictogloss Technique in teaching writing skill to improve students’ skill in writing descriptive text.

The aims of this study are:1) To find out the students’ ability in writing recount text who were taught using scrapbook. 2) to find out the students’ ability in writing recount text who were taught without using scrapbook. 3) to know whether there is any significant difference of the students’ ability who were taught using Scrapbook and the students who were taught without using Scrapbook. This study used true experimental design and its kind is pre-test post-test control and experimental group design. The population in this research is the eighth grade students of SMP N 2 Gubug in the 2015/2016 academic year. The writer took 2 classes, each class consist of 21 students, VIII A as Control class and VIII B as Experimental class. Pre-test and post-test were used as instruments. There were some categories in assessing writing, those are: content, organization, vocabulary, syntax and mechanic. Based on the research findings, the writer concluded that the mean of students’ score in writing recount text taught without using Scrapbook is 65,6 and it was categorized as “adequate” in achievement level. So it was concluded that writing ability of the students who were taught without Scrapbook is fair. The mean of students’ score in writing recount text taught using Scrapbook is 74,57 and it was categorized as “good” in achievement level. So it was concluded that the use of Scrapbook can improve the students’ ability in writing recount text. There was significant improvement of students’ ability in writing recount text after being taught by using Scrapbook. It can be known from ttest result is 3,58 and ttable for df 40 and significance 5% is 2,021. From data above, because t-test is higher than t-table, so the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected, and Ha was accepted. So there is significant difference between the students’ ability in writing recount text taught using scrapbook and those were taught without using Scrapbook. Based on the result above, it can be concluded that the use of Scrapbook is effective in improving students’ ability in writing recount text. Students felt happy and enthusiast in learning recount text. Scrapbook helped the students to learn the material easily. Scrapbook can be one of visual media that is interesting especially for teaching writing recount text.

The purpose of the study was to find out whether using mind mapping technique can       increase students’ vocabulary or not. It was conducted at SMP N 2 Bitung. The subject in this study was Class VII-4, academic year 2017/2018, which consisted of 35 students. This research was a pre-experimental design with one group pre-test and post-test. The data were analyzed statistically by comparing the mean score of the tests. The findings showed that the students' score in posttest were higher than the pre-test. The mean score of post-test (T2) was 82, and the mean score of the pre-test (T1) was 49. This indicated that the use of mind mapping technique increased students’ vocabulary.
