The intention of this study is to find out the effect of virtual teaching on attitudes of second language acquisition during Covid-19 condition.  Most school quickly closed to protect the students and teachers from the virus.  The study findings indicate that Virtual Teaching (VT) marked a positive change in the attitudes of the students.  This study was performed both qualitatively and quantitatively.  In order to find out the effect of virtual teaching on second language acquisition attitudes, a questionnaire was distributed.  It was conducted at the Senior High School level.  The questionnaire was distributed among 77 third year students of random Senior High School with a google form sent through WhatsApp due to the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic.  It was designed on five linear scales.

Many people think learning a language is easy because they assume we are using the language every day. Learning a language is not just being able to communicate with the language, but also knowing and understanding the meaning contained in the word or phrase that is pronounced. In study languages, especially English, most of the students experience difficulty in speaking or talking. Difficulty talk is usually caused by the difficulty to express ideas orally, limited vocabulary, limited knowledge of grammar so it is difficult to talk with the correct rules, limited ability to properly pronounce vocabulary (pronunciation), so it is difficult to pronounce a word with true, the lack of courage to speak out because of fear of being wrong. To facilitate the ability to speak(speaking), there is some pretty effective way to try, among them: expand the vocabulary, read aloud, get to know simple English, read English, conversation English, listening to English songs, watching English movies,love the subjects English. In this paper also discussed methods teaching role-play and media pictorial story to improve the ability of English-speaking students.

This research aims to find out whether texts in the English National Examination at Junior High School. Conform with students' readability level or not. This research is research that uses quantitative methods. It aims to investigate the readability of the texts used in the English national examination texts for junior high school students. Subjects are 8 texts used in the English national examination texts. The instrument used to collect data is the Flesch Reading Ease readability formula. The results of the study it was found that the reading text on the National Examination test was not suitable for junior high school students. Based on the readability formula for the eight reading texts, there are 4 texts in the very easy category, in the easy category there is 1 text, in the quite difficult category there is 1 and there are only 2 reading texts that are suitable for students who are included in the standard category and are fairly easy. For those interested in studying readability, besides Flesch reading ease formula. The writer hopes this research can give more information for further research. The author expected to pay attention to producing better texts which suitable with the level of the students’ readability as the good text can help students to get a high score.

This Study aims to determine the Actions of Racial Discrimination committed by White People against Black people in The Help. This research used qualitative method, in terms of using words or text. In conducting this research, the data are collected from primary and secondary sources. The primary source or the main source is the novel entitled The Help, written by Kathryn Stockett. The second sources are some related books and articles from the internet, that are supporting this research. In analyzing the data, the researcher used Mimetic Approach by Abrams. The result of this study is presented descriptively. As the results of this research, the researcher found that there are many actions of Racial Discrimination reflected in The Help. It can be seen in some several sections. First, there is a Discriminatory Law namely Jim Crow Law of the Southern United State. Second, the Discriminatory Stereotypes that the White People created about the Black People such as, Blacks are dirty, Black People are thieves, Black People as diseases, and Black People are dumb. And the last is the Discrimination in Public Services, that can be found in residential area, library, education, health service, voting, and public transportation.

ABSTRAK   This research aims at: (1) Identifying and classifying types of taboo words in Kombi District, Minahasa Regency. (2) Knowing the function of people using taboo words in Kombi District, Minahasa Regency. This research uses qualitative research. The subjects in this study were 15 adults aged at least 20-60 years in Kombi District, especially in the villages where the research was conducted, namely in Lalumpe, Ranowangko, Rerer, Makalisung, and Kalawiran villages. And the main instrument in this research is the researcher himself, using the Technique of Observation, Interview, Documentation, and Questionnaire. Data were analyzed using sociolinguistics analysis. Research result: (1) Types of taboo words in Kombi District, Minahasa Regency have 30 types of taboo words that are still remembered and used by several people in villages in Kombi District. (2) The functions of taboo words in Kombi District, Minahasa Regency include an expression of annoyance, as an emotional outlet, and also as an expression of greeting to friends or relatives who are already familiar (for some people).

This study aimed to reveal affixes' form and meaning in Tombulu language tenses, especially on past, present, and future tenses. Descriptive qualitative method used with applying Arikunto's procedure of collecting data which were interview and documentation. While, in analyzing data used Miles & Huberman which consisted of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. This study showed that there were different functions of Affixes in the tenses of Tombulu language and English. The simple past tense was Infix -im- and -in-, which were placed after vocal or consonant phonemes. Simple present tense with Prefix mah- which was located to the beginning of the word. Simple future tense with Infix -um-, which was placed after vocal or consonant phonemes.

The purpose of this study aimed to reveal the symbolism of Imperialism in Orwell’s shooting an elephant. The research is categorized as qualitative research since the data were in the form of words and the data was collected from the primary source that is the novel itself, and the secondary sources were from the books, references, and other sources such as the internet that could support this research. The result of this research is revealing the symbols or signs that which is an act of imperialism that happened in Burma through of some important things about imperialism itself such as; The conquest of Burma and British power, The economic exploitation, and The Spread of religion or ideology.

Studies described that satisfaction and self-efficacy were mentioned as the utmost influencers in students’ academic performance.  By saying that, the study was carried out to expose the level of satisfaction with offline class and English self-efficacy of the students, and to find out is there any correlation between those two-mentioned variables.  Through random sample sampling technique, 32 senior high schools students located in local area, Bitung city, were gathered as a sample for this study.  Two questionnaire were adapted, first from Asakereh & Dehghannezhad (2015) a questionnaire for satisfaction scale, and second from Sağlam & Arslan (2018) a questionnaire for English self-efficacy.  The outcomes revealed that students’ level of satisfaction with offline class and English self-efficacy was at average level.  Moreover, a significant negative correlation was revealed between students’ satisfaction with offline class and English self-efficacy.  Finally, the study ends with recommendation also suggestion which required to be considered.

This study focuses on students’ interest in English, and how it influences students’ achievement. The aim of this study is to figure out whether there is a correlation between students’ interest and their academic achievement in learning English. The number of the sample in this research are 87 students at the second grade of SMA Negeri 1 Tomohon. This study used quantitative research design which is non-experimental research. The data collected with questionnaire to obtain the information about students’ interest and students’ achievement in learning English. The questionnaire consists of 31 items divided into positive and negative statements. The items were tested with SPPS to determent the validity and the reliability of each items. The data was analysed by using the formula of Pearson Product Moment Correlation. It was found that the correlation score was 0.424. The significance value was 0.217 showed in the r table. The score of correlation 0.424 was higher than the significance value 0.217, means that the alternative hypothesis was accepted. Based on the result, it can be concluded that there was a positive correlation between students’ interest and their academic achievement in learning English. The researcher suggests that the case interest is very important particularly in affecting students’ achievement, therefore it must be improved.

This study aims to determine whether the E-learning method can be effective in optimizing students' reading comprehension of descriptive text with WhatsApp Application. This research was conducted in class X MIA 1 SMA Negeri 1 Buko in the academic year of 2020/2021. This study used one group-pretest-postest design of research with the data analysis were the frequency distribution of scores, mean and standard deviation. The questions from the pretest and posttest used the type of multiple choice questions with questions about the descriptive text. From this result, it was found that the mean of posttest Y = 7.8 with standard deviation Sy = 0.79 was higher than mean score at pretest X = 5.33 with standard deviation Sx = 0.89. It means that students' reading comprehension in descriptive text was higher after treatment at posttest than pretest. So the researcher concluded that the application of the E-learning method through WhatsApp application was effective in optimizing students' reading comprehension of descriptive text.
