Primary school is a very strategic place for the prevention of dental and oral diseases. Delivering counseling material in learning oral health requires media. One of the media in dental and oral health education is through counseling using audio media. This audio media contains messages about dental health that are played at school every morning and can be exposed and heard every day so elementary school children can behave well in dental health. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of audio media outreach programs to the knowledge and level of dental and mouth hygiene of students at State Primary School 26 Kalimas Tengah, Kubu Raya Regency in 2019. This study was a quasi-experimental study with a Pre-Post observation research design. The samples of this study were 68 people which were class III, IV and V. The results showed the average rank of knowledge index before counseling with audio media was 8.928 and p was 0.020 (p<0.05) with index of dental and oral hygiene level was 0,00 and p of 0,000 (p<0.05). Meanwhile, after counseling with audio media was 9,500 and p of 0.020 (p<0.05) with a level of dental and oral hygiene of 35.00 and p of 0,000 (p<0,05). The conclusion of this study is counseling with audio media is more effective in increasing knowledge which can improve oral and dental hygiene

Mental disorders are an important problem in every national health care service. The importance of psychotic disorders is not only their frequency but also their long-term character, recurrence, association with other diseases, costs and consequences for the family and society. Psychotic disorders (schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorders and depression) and their treatment may result in serious oral diseases. These disorders and medications used to treat them may lead to a series of oral complications and side effects, predominantly high prevalence of carious and extracted teeth, periodontal disease, inadequate oral hygiene, xerostomia, burning mouth syndrome, bad breath and gustatory sense dysfunction. Psychotic disorders affect oral and dental health in two ways. Behavioural changes affect the oral hygiene maintenance and lead to bad habits and attitudes towards oral health. Antipsychotic therapy has adverse effects on oral health. Literature data suggest that oral health in patients with psychotic disorders is poor and highlight the need to develop specific preventive programmes, which would be aimed at improving behaviour of this population at risk in the oral health care system.

Objective. This paper aims to assess the effectiveness of reinforcement of oral health education message through short messaging service (SMS) in mobile phones.Material and Methods. 400 subjects from two colleges (200 from each college) belonging to 18–20 years age group possessing mobile phones were randomly selected and baseline examination of oral hygiene and gingival status was carried out using Oral Hygiene Index (OHI) and Gingival Index (GI). Oral health education was provided to all the subjects. Oral health education message was reinforced through short messaging service (SMS) in mobile phones for the subjects belonging to the intervention group. There was no such reinforcement for the control group. Follow-up examinations were done at the end of 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 6th month. After the 3rd month, subjects of the intervention group did not receive oral health education message through short messaging service (SMS) and were followed up after next three months. Compiled data was analyzed using SPSS version 16 statistical software.Result. Mean OHI and GI scores in intervention group were significantly (p<0.01) less than those of control group after the 2nd, 3rd, and 6th month.Conclusion. Reinforcement of oral health education message through short messaging service (SMS) is effective media to improve oral health.

BACKGROUND New technologies create possible new ways of action, interaction, and learning which is extremely relevant in the field of oral health education. There is a lack of protocol in using an immersive interactive ludic-educational interface to motivate oral hygiene practice in children by means of augmented reality. OBJECTIVE This study aims to present a protocol on the development of a serious game to motivate oral hygiene practice in children. METHODS A serious game will be designed by augmented reality techniques to improve toothbrushing effectiveness of children aged 6 to 10 years. The functional structure of this interface is activated by means of movements recognized by Kinect (Microsoft Corp). The toothbrushing technique will be available in the game, enabling the children to execute the movement in the virtual environment. By identifying errors, this game will be tailored to improve the oral health of children by correcting the technique and teaching the user the adequate toothbrushing method. A template analysis will be performed to identify barriers and facilitators in each scenario. RESULTS After the implementation of the virtual interactive and immersive panels, enrollment will begin and evaluations will be made by means of questionnaires distributed to participants who interact with the game. Thus, an analysis of the product efficacy will be conducted. The expected outcome will be to obtain a digital instrument to motivate oral hygiene practice and enhance health awareness in children. Background and purpose: Dental caries is a problem that often arises in children. One contributing factor is the child's behavior. Behavior began to form of knowledge, and knowledge to stimulate a change in attitude and action. The knowledge of elementary school children about dental health at the level of bad and less. Children have characteristics consistent with the cognitive development, is one of the aspects to be considered in determining the appropriate target education and the education methods will be used. The purpose of this education is to see the difference in the effectiveness of storytelling method and role play method as an method of dental and oral health education on a 3rd grade elementary school. Material and Methods: The research method was quasi experimental with pretest and posttest design. Samples were taken by using purposive sampling technique with a sample of 54 students in grades 3 SDN 22 Andalas Padang. The samples were divided into 2 groups with different treatment, 27 students with storytelling method and 27 students with role play method. The level of knowledge was measured through filled questionnaires before and after education. Analysis of the data used is paired T test and independent T test (p <0.05). Results and conclusions: results analysis of test showed a significant increase in knowledge (p <0.05) after being given an education on each method with a significance value of 0.000. The average change knowledge in the storytelling method was 14.26 ± 4.09 while the role play method was 17.96 ± 3.99. There are differences in effectiveness between the two methods of education to increase knowledge with a significance value of 0.001 (p <0.05). The conclusion of this study is role play as a method of dental and oral health education is an effective method to increasing knowledge. Objective: The aim of this study is to assess the impact of the health awareness campaigns and an intervention on overall oral hygiene of students. Materials and methods: A cohort study (prospective) has been conducted over a period of 1 year from September 2018- September 2019, a total of 340 students age between 6 to 12 years participated in the study. A self-administrated Questionnaire regarding oral hygiene habits and practices was designed and filled by the students. Same questionnaire was filled from the same students again after one year and the impact of oral health education was accessed. Results: Following the intervention, significant differences were found in the dental health. Time taken for brushing was improved. Majority of the participants who changed their toothbrush after more than a year, now changed their toothbrushes after every 6 months. Frequency of visiting the dentist for routine checkups also increased. Conclusion: Short term oral health education program and health awareness campaigns have potential merits in bettering the oral hygiene conditions and promoting health among the children. Coordinating efforts should be enhanced between school personnel, parents and health professionals to ensure long term benefits

Abstract Background: The objective of this study is to evaluate the effects of school based oral health interventions programs on students’ oral hygiene, in developing countries through systematic review and meta-analysis. Methods: Our investigation was conducted in electronic databases including MEDLINE Ovid), Embase Ovid, Scopus), Web of Science from 2000 to march 2018.The data were extracted based on a standard data collection form specific to observational studies, and entered into RevMan 2014. Inclusion criteria included individually randomized controlled trials (RCTs) or cluster-RCTs including quasi- experimental studies that were related to oral health interventions. Software RevMan 2014was used for meta-analysis. A meta-analysis was carried out using random-effects models. Results: Twelve studies of students in this review finally entered the study including five individual RCTs, four cluster-RCTs, and three quasi-experimental studies. The intervention study period ranged from 1 month to 9 month. Interventions described in the studies briefly included oral health education with activities such as lectures, albums, slides, pamphlets, posters, and role playing. Meta-analyses showed a significant difference in knowledge (SMD 3.31, 95% CI 2.52 to 4.11; I 2 = 98; P < 0.001), attitude (SMD 1.99, 95% CI 0. 43 to 3.54; I 2 = 99; P < 0.001), behavior (SMD 4.74, 95% CI 3.70 to 5.77; I 2 = 99; P < 0.001), plaque index (SMD -1.01, 95% CI -1.50 to -0. 51; I 2 = 97; P < 0.001) and Gingival index (SMD 0. 33, 95% CI -0. 36 to 1. 02; I 2 = 98; P = 0.34) for students receiving educational interventions compared to those receiving usual care . Discussion: The systematic review concludes that educational interventions are effective for improving oral health knowledge, attitudes, behaviors, etc., which could potentially lead to improved oral health, reduced oral diseases, and reduced costs from treating oral diseases.

Dental and oral health education of children through games among kindergarten teachersPurposeThis study aims to determine the differences of knowledge about the dental and oral health of children before and after instruction with the game method called “Rangking I” among kindergarten teachers. MethodsThis research was a quasi experimental study with quantitative data analysis using a one group experimental design. A total of 29 kindergarten teachers were educated by the game method called “Rangking 1”. Changes in knowledge before and after education were measured using a pre-test and post-test. ResultsThe Wilcoxon test showed that education with the “Rangking 1” game method and lectures can be effective in improving the knowledge of kindergarten teachers related to oral and dental health. ConclusionThe game method “Rangking 1” can increase the knowledge of dental and mouth health in kindergarten teachers significantly. Schools need to consider implementing learning methods through games for kindergarten children.

Introduction. Health education plays a crucial oral in maintaining good oral health of human population and, primarily, in reducing the incidence of caries as one of the most frequent oral diseases. This implies the need for a change in the behavior of individuals, groups or the society as a whole, in terms of the following: establishing a proper nutrition regime, establishing the habit of maintaining oral hygiene and the use of fluorides. The goal of the paper is to determine the quantity of information which parents and their seven year old children have on the effects of nutrition, oral hygiene and fluoride prophylaxis on dental health in rural and urban environment. Material and methods. The survey included 450 seven-year-old children and their parents in urban and rural environments. The quantity of information about proper nutrition, oral hygiene and fluoride prophylaxis was determined based on specific questionnaires for children and their parents. Results. The quantity of information about the effects of proper nutrition, oral hygiene and fluoride prophylaxis on dental health of seven year old children is significantly larger in urban, as compared to the rural environment. The quantity of information of parents about the effects of proper nutrition, oral hygiene and fluoride prophylaxis on dental health is larger in urban, as compared to the rural environment. Conclusion. This research suggests a need to intensify health education activities, especially in the rural environment.
