ABSTRACT DAMASCENOLIDETM [1, 4-(4-methylpent-3-en-1-yl)furan-2(5H)-one], which is isolated from damask rose, is a useful aroma compound with a citrus-like odor. We have previously reported on the synthesis and odor properties of 34 analogs of 1 as part of our new aroma compound development project. In order to develop better aroma compounds and to gather more information on structure-odor relationships, six novel sulfur-containing analogs of 1 were synthesized. Odor evaluation revealed that their odors differed significantly from those of the corresponding sulfur-free compounds. The introduction of a sulfur atom does not necessarily result in a sulfur-like odor. In particular, the 2(5H)-thiophenone analogs gave waxy, oily and lactone-like odors that are uncharacteristic of sulfur-containing compounds. In many synthesized analogs, the introduction of a sulfur atom led to an increase in odor intensity, as expected.

Pyrolysis of waste plastics is one of the routes used for waste minimization, which has been gaining interest in recent years as a feedstock method. In this work, the two universal problems: plastics waste and fuel shortage have been addressed simultaneously. The process of converting PP and PE plastics waste in Libya into fuel and chemicals was overviewed. Data concerning Plastic Industry in Libya was collected to which some projection of the future production rate and waste rate has been estimated. Keywords: Plastic waste; recycling of polymers; waste management.

Plastic is a synthetic polymer that is widely used in almost every field of life. The massive use of this synthetic polymer has led to the accumulation of this polymer in the environment thus polluting the environment. The general techniques in preventing plastic waste as landfill, incineration, recycling are considered less effective as they release some hazardous materials to the environment. Thus, the appropriate technique is needed to overcome this problem. Biodegradation is an enzymatic degradation involving some microorganisms including bacteria. This technique can be used to prevent the plastic waste problem. Plastic waste biodegradation occurred through several steps, including biodeterioration, depolymerization, and assimilation. Within this process, bacteria will secrete many enzymes that will degrade and convert plastic polymers into microbial biomass and gases. Thus, this process has fewer even no side effect.

The poor degradability of plastics has led to huge plastics deposit in a landfill of which pyrolysis technology has been proposed to solve plastics waste problem. This paper reports the study on characteristics of two kinds of plastic wastes: selected packaging plastics and PVC. Characterizations have been performed for investigating water content, ash content, and decomposition temperature. The results revealed that the water content of packaging plastic waste was 0.69 ± 0.11%, while PVC was 1.22 ± 0.24%. The ash contents are 2.36 ± 1.03 % and 27.24±1.73 % for packaging plastics waste and PVC waste respectively. Plastic waste from packaging application and PVC waste decomposed at a temperature of 300-500°C and 200-800°C respectively. Decomposition of PVC waste took place in three stages: 200-370°C, 370-525°C and 600-800°C. It is recommended that the pyrolysis process should be conducted in the range of 300-500°C for packaging plastic waste and 200-800°C for PVC waste.

The Creativity is very needed to manage plastic waste become something new and can be re-used, because in Wonokromo district at Tulungagung was still many plastics waste that wasted and just fired, finally can be caused air-polution. The purpose of this research to know there is any creativity from students to manage plastic waste to be creative product that have a new value. Creative product that resulted from students at class 3 at SDN 1 Wonokromo valued with three criterias, it is: newness, fission, and detailed. Data collection methods that used is observation, interview, and documentation. The instrument that used is observation with ratting scale in create a data, and also use data of interview and documentation to support a data that a result of researcher. From this analysis data that result show that there is any creativity of students in class 3 at SDN 1 Wonokromo is very good because from fourteen students only one student that have a good criteria. The higher presentation is 94% and the lower is 68%.Keywords: creativity, creative products, plastic waste

After death the fraction of living matter which is not biodegraded (shells, bones, corals, carbonaceous deposits) becomes environmentally sustainable. This is not the case for plastics so that these wastes should be either recycled or made environmentally inert and stored in secure repositories as a resource for future generations. Chemistry has offered different solutions to this problem, and each brings about advantages and disadvantages when compared to other options. One further possible route could consist in the enrichment of the plastics waste in carbon content (“carbonization”), in analogy with the production of charcoal from wood, but we hope to stimulate a debate about all the other possible routes among scientists and engineers in the involved fields.

In order to conduct the integrated management in the whole process of plastics waste management, plastics waste generation should firstly be studied, especially the generation of each kind. The results of factors acting during the generation process should also be studied. Using Beijng as an example city, this paper established a predicting model for the generation and proportion of each shape and component of plastics waste, and analyzed the generation characteristics and trend of plastics waste in Beijing according to the predicting results. In terms of shape, the plastic film has the largest proportion. While in terms of component, PP and PE have the largest proportion among all the components.

ABSTRACT Objective: Checking for the existence of assessment instruments for odor in neoplastic wounds. Method: Integrative review performed in the databases Lilacs, SCiELO, Ibecs and MedLine, including national and international publications. Results: 15 articles were analyzed, in its majority performed by nurses and being of the revision type. Nine scales were found, of which the majority assesses only the odor intensity. The scale most used to evaluate products and/or bandage covers for neoplastic injuries was the Odor Evaluation Guideline, of qualitative-quantitative nature, that establishes the symptom within four levels; only one of which being validated (Teler scale). Conclusion: The results of this study showed that, currently, there is only one scale that is validated for assessing odor in neoplastic wounds, pointing towards the need to develop new instruments that incorporate validated and reliable instruments in clinical practice.
