Abstract. Relevance. Currently, agroholdings actively use advertising to increase the recognition of agro-products, since advertising effectively affects the target segment, gives consumers new knowledge and opportunities to choose alternative products, which in turn increases satisfaction from purchase. Purpose. The article presents the main provisions of the development of measures aimed at improving the advertising activities of agricultural holdings (using the example of grain specialization). Methods. Among the common promotion methods, the authors distinguish the following: printing materials, online advertising, service, gift certificates, promotions, outdoor advertising. The current system of intra-company advertising was diagnosed and recommendations were made to improve the organization and planning of grain specialization advertising: the development of social networks, creative outdoor advertising. The main research methods are horizontal and vertical analysis, comparison and grouping methods. The proposed recommendations are supported by calculations, the forecast values of indicators and their relationship with the sale of agricultural products are indicated. Scientific novelty. In the analysis of intra-company advertising, it was established that a decrease in the use of advertising funds leads to the fact that the invested funds in advertising do not bring the expected results and show a decrease in the effectiveness of advertising. To solve the problem, the author developed a system of events: the creation of a creative advertising campaign in a magazine, creative outdoor advertising. Results. With increased investment in advertising, the return on investment ratio increases at a much faster pace, which indicates the advantage of online advertising and an increase in the number of visitors and buyers, an increase in profitability by more than 15 percent, and an increase in the level of attention of buyers to advertising will increase to 61 percent by 2022.

Sugar is one of the most important elements in human nutrition. The Common Market Organisation for sugar has been a subject of considerable debate since its establishment in 1968. The European agricultural market has been criticized for its heavy regulations and subsidization. The sugar market is one of the most regulated ones; however, this will change radically in 2017 when the current system of production quotas will end. The current EU sugar market changed is structure during the last several decades. The significant number of companies left the market and EU internal sugar market became more concentrated. The aim of this paper is presentation characteristics of sugar market with respect to the supposed market failure – reduction in competition. The analysis also identifies the main drivers and determinants of the EU especially quota sugar market. In relation to paper’s aim the following results are important. The present conditions of the European sugar market have led to market failure when nearly 75 % (10 million tonnes) of the quota is controlled by five multinational companies only. These multinational alliances (especially German and French one) are also taking control over the production capacities of their subsidiaries. In most countries, this causes serious problems as the given quota is controlled by one or two producers only. This is a significant indicator of market imperfection. The quota system cannot overcome the problem of production quotas on the one hand and the demand on the other; furthermore, it also leads to economic inefficiency. The current EU sugar market is under the control of only Sudzucker, Nordzucker, Pfeifer and Langen, Tereos and ABF.

The April 2017 National Science Foundation-funded Breaking the Boundaries in STEM Education conference brought together Southern California science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) faculty to explore equity, problem-solving, and computing in an interdisciplinary manner. Two main research questions guided the overall scope of the conference: (1) What are the common threads across disciplines to approach the teaching and learning of skills that are relevant in STEM? (2) What are the challenges and barriers that need to be overcome in order to foster collaboration across disciplines to impact the teaching and learning of skills relevant in STEM? We describe the background of the conference and provide an overview of the questions addressed.

One of the first of the specialized agencies of the United Nations to become active, the Food and Agriculture Organization has elicited interest beyond the specialized field of agricultural economists. Attempting as it does to solve one of the very basic problems of the world, that of an adequate food supply, the organization represents a significant and hopeful international attempt to create a world in which there may actually exist “freedom from want.” The objectives of FAO, as formally expressed in the preamble to the constitution, read as follows:“The nations accepting this constitution being determined to promote the common welfare by furthering separate and collective action on their part for the purpose of raising levels of nutrition and standards of living of the people under their jurisdiction, securing improvements in the efficiency of the production of all food and agricultural products, bettering the conditions of rural populations, and thus contributing toward an expanding world economy, hereby establish the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.”

Lithuania, as a small country, cannot afford creating new knowledge in all the fields of science. It is reasonable to firstly focus on those fields in which Lithuania already has scientific and industrial potential and that clearly declare the biggest demand for innovations as well as capability to invest into innovations. Research institutions here usually focus on fundamental research but both the revenues and the human resources of research institutions are rather poor. Dispersion of the Lithuanian potential of science and studies and the absence of critical mass represent the main reasons why R&D lacks effectiveness. The paper presents the main research fields and high-tech research institutions in Lithuania.

Introduction: a legal interpretation activity is an independent type of legal activity. Despite this, its system today is rather poorly studied, which leads to the contradictions in the formation of interpretative practice. One of the elements of the system of legal interpretation activity is interpretative norms, which in legal science have not been distinguished as an independent legal category and have not been comprehensively studied. Purpose: to establish the truth in the issue of distinguishing interpretative norms as an independent legal category. Methods: the methodological framework for the study is a set of methods of scientific knowledge, including consistency, analysis, comparative legal, formal legal. Results: the author’s position grounded in the work is based on the study of the term “interpretative norms”, as well as their comparative analysis with the norms of law to identify the common and individual features. Conclusions: as a result of the conducted research, it is established that interpretative norms should be considered in the legal science as an independent legal category. This is confirmed by the possibility of distinguishing one’s own concept, as well as the presence of an individual legal nature. The current system of Russian law is an interdependent tandem of legal norms and interpretative norms, which interact with each other, allowing the most optimal way to achieve the goals of the legal regulation.

Abstract In this paper, the borderlands, in the context of the psychological perception of frontiers, were presented. The common relationships between different nationalities living in border twin towns was a principal point of analysis. During the investigation two main research questions were asked: Is a frontier a barrier or a bridge in the common relationships between nationalities living on both sides of the borderline? and Does the trans-border casual social integration stimulate openness to neighbours? The study was conducted in two double towns: la Jonquera (Els límits) - Le Perthus at the Spanish-French border and Słubice - Frankfurt-am-Oder at the Polish-German border. The data were gathered from surveys by questioning locals and visitors during street polling. The design of the questionnaire included three main groups of questions relating to: 1) the perception of the borderline and the role of the border twin towns, 2) the attitude towards neighbours and identification with the borderlands, and 3) the future of the borderline in the context of the twin towns existence and cross-border linkages. The results showed that the historical circumstances and cultural background play a crucial role in the current bilateral interrelations between nations sharing the common space of the twin towns. These two aspects of the borderland have an influence on the psychological perception of the border that creates mental boundaries in local societies. However, as the results proved, the necessity of living together pushed locals to be more open-minded, which as a consequence supported the establishment of social bonds.
