Despite the alleged importance of work breaks, little is known about antecedents and consequences of social media break activities besides non-social media break activities. Since individuals use social media to contact friends and families, find information, and be entertained, this study theorized that engaging in social media break activities while at work can help employees to experience psychological detachment and relaxation during work hours. The purpose of this study was to explore this growingly popular topic of social media use at work by focusing on job demands that may explain why employees perceive social media are vital for them at work. Further, this study seeks to understand when and how employees use social media at work to experience recovery, which, in turn, increases their job satisfaction and life satisfaction. Questionnaires were collected from current hospitality non-managerial and managerial employees in the United States. Structural equation modeling was employed to analyze data. Results of the study confirm that at-work break activities including social and non-social media break activities can be a channel for employees to experience recovery and deal with job demands. Moreover, the results suggest that when employees reported their perceptions of recovery experiences, positive perceptions had a positive impact on job satisfaction and life satisfaction. The findings also indicate that employees who are happy at work have a high life satisfaction. The results fill an empirical gap in the theoretical literature on at-work break activities and recovery. This study offers further insight and empirical evidence about the positive outcomes of both social and non-social media break activities to researchers, practitioners, and human resource professionals.

Previous sport management research has demonstrated the positive relationship between political skill and personal career outcomes, but research addressing the question of how leader social effectiveness (i.e. political skill) influences the commitment and satisfaction of subordinates is lacking. This study sought to determine if leader (athletic director) political skill influences subordinate (head coach) evaluations of leader effectiveness, in turn influencing subordinate job satisfaction and commitment. Surveys were completed by interscholastic athletic directors ( n = 250) and representative subsets of head coaches ( n = 806) in the United States. Structural equation modeling was used to analyze the data. Political skill was shown to have a positive impact on evaluations of leader effectiveness. Leader effectiveness also acts as a mediator between political skill and employee job satisfaction and affective organizational commitment. Thus, political skill appears to be an important contributor to subordinate perceptions of leadership effectiveness, job satisfaction, and organizational commitment.

Green human capital (GHC) is regarded as one of the primary attributes individuals need to develop in the era of environmental degradation. Many existing studies indicate that it is probably an important indicator of employees’ satisfaction in the workplace. Thus, based on trait theory and ability–motivation–opportunity theory, the current study examines the antecedents and outcomes of GHC among 630 employees from the manufacturing and service companies in Guangdong Province. The research employs Big Five personality and green training as the predictors of GHC, and job satisfaction as the outcome variable. Partial least squares structural equation modeling is used to analyze the data. The findings show that, in Big Five personality domains, only agreeableness and openness have a positive as well as significant impact on the individuals’ GHC, and that green training also has a positive influence on the GHC. GHC has a positive impact on the employees’ job satisfaction. The research findings and managerial implications are then discussed in detail.

PurposeToday’s educational complexities require principals to adopt a more systemic perspective toward school management. Although research has emphasized the benefits associated with the holistic perspective of systems thinking, research in the educational field has been limited. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the mediating role of principals’ systems thinking (PST) in the relationships between instructional leadership (IL) and subject coordinators’ organizational commitment and job satisfaction.Design/methodology/approachData were collected by surveying a sample of 226 subject coordinators from different elementary schools randomly chosen in Israel. Subject coordinators completed questionnaires on their PST competencies, their principals’ IL, job satisfaction and organizational commitment. Structural equation modeling was used to test the research hypotheses.FindingsThe results confirmed the main hypotheses: PST did facilitate subject coordinators’ organizational commitment and job satisfaction. Findings also showed that PST mediated the relationship between IL and subject coordinators’ organizational commitment and job satisfaction.Originality/valueBy integrating research from both educational and non-educational literature, this study contributes to deepen our understanding regarding the antecedents and consequences of the PST as perceived by their subject coordinators, providing a broader leadership framework on their functions in today’s complex school systems.

Social media (SM) tools have an immense potential in e-marketing and online shopping. However, there is a lack of researches on the use of social media platform as effective marketing tools. This study has aimed to investigate the revolution of social media in Saudi Arabia through understanding the impact of two popular SM platforms (Instagram and Snapchat) on the purchasing decision of Saudi customers through advertisements and blogger recommendations. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to develop a model, which was tested using Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The results indicated a positive impact of social media platforms on the purchasing decision of young female users. Moreover, the effectiveness of these platforms in generating electronic-word of mouth (eWOM) among consumers was highlighted. However, further research is needed to promote marketeers and consumers' awareness in the digital marketplace.

Male and female consumers differ in terms of decision-making. This is also true for inexperienced and experienced consumers. Although the extant research delineates studies that have centered on the interrelationships between perceived ease of use (PEU), perceived enjoyment (PE), perceived usefulness (PU), attitude toward using social media (ATUSM), and users’ behavioral intentions, there is still a dearth of empirical research about gender and prior experience as the two potential moderators. With this recognition, our study examines gender and prior experience as moderators of the effects of PEU, PE, and PU on ATUSM. Our study also investigates ATUSM as a full mediator of the impacts of PEU, PE, and PU on users’ intentions to attend festivals (IAF). Data came from the students of the Korean Government Scholarship Program. The results from structural equation modeling reveal that the positive influence of PE on ATUSM is stronger among female users. As expected, the positive impact of PU on ATUSM is stronger for male users. As hypothesized, prior experience strengthens the positive effects of PE and PU on ATUSM. The results further reveal that ATUSM fully mediates the effects of PE and PU on IAF. Based on the aforesaid findings, theoretical implications are discussed and managerial implications to enhance business sustainability are offered.

Social media users in Indonesia are growing rapidly since its emergence. In 2019, one of the largest social media platforms, Facebook has 3 billion users worldwide as well as 130 million users from Indonesia. Moreover, other social media such as Instagram also experienced significant growth with most of its users being teenagers. Massive use of social media is caused by more than 100 million active users using gadgets or smartphones to open apps such as social media. Widespread use of social media and gadgets not only has a positive impact but also negative impacts such as mental and behavioral disorders if the user is already addicted. Therefore, the need to know the factors that influence social media addiction and gadgets in Indonesia is necessary to prevent the occurrence of social media and gadget addiction. In this paper, the influence factors of social media addiction and gadgets in Indonesia are examined using several techniques such as data science, partial least square, and structural equation modeling. Research result: Time, Productivity and Relationships are factors that influence social media addiction and gadgets, whereas Mind is not a factor that affects social media addiction and gadgets.

With regard to the increasing use of social media channels in public administrations, this study investigates antecedents and consequences of public administration’s social media website attractiveness, focusing on the local government level. We derive a model based on the Uses and Gratifications Theory and apply a structural equation modeling approach by testing our model based on a survey data of 164 citizens in Germany using social media websites in the context of public administration. As a result, we find that Social Motivation, User-Generated Content and Public Administrator-Generated Content have a significant positive influence on Attractiveness. Moreover, Attractiveness positively affects both Intention to Use and Word-of-Mouth (WoM) Intention. Points for practitioners The attractiveness of public institutions’ social media websites such as Facebook depends on three factors: (1) users wish to get connected to other users and (2) the appeal of its content generated by the public institution as well as (3) by other users. Empirical data suggest that the increase in attractiveness of respective social media pages will make users use the social site more often and will also make users recommend the page to others. Against this background, social media page managers of public administration websites will focus on providing an open platform for citizens to exchange information and provide appealing and citizen-oriented content.

Background: Individual perception of memory performance (i.e., subjective memory) is assessed using a variety of approaches. This article focuses on 2 such approaches: (1) self-comparison assessments that attempt to capture changes in memory ability over a period of time and (2) age-anchored comparisons that assess how an individual perceives their memory in relation to others their age. These different types of assessment may relate to psychological well-being differently due to the underlying mechanisms of assessment. Objective: The purpose of these analyses is to examine 2 measures of subjective memory (i.e., a self-comparison measure and an age-anchored comparison measure) as predictors of psychological well-being among adults in mid- and late life. Methods: Participants (n = 3,434) in the Midlife in the United States Study completed measures of subjective memory, depressive affect, and life satisfaction. Structural equation modeling was used to examine whether the self-comparison and age-anchored comparison measures had differential predictive utility regarding psychological well-being. Results: Higher age-anchored comparison ratings were related to higher life satisfaction scores. There was a significant interaction between the 2 items such that individuals with lower ratings on both subjective memory measures had the poorest outcomes. Additionally, age-anchored comparisons interacted with age: older adults had the poorest outcomes when they reported poorer age-anchored comparisons. Conclusion: These findings highlight the importance of precise measurement in the consideration of subjective memory. How an individual was asked to rate his or her perception of memory influenced the relationships between subjective memory and psychological well-being. This study contributes valuable insight into the importance of the assessment models of subjective memory.

This study aimed to analyze the factors that influence employee talent management and their impact on job satisfaction, job performance, and commitment sustainability. The study was conducted on workers in five companies located in Karawang Regency (pallet plastics, automotive, and hospitality industries) and Bogor (garment industry) located in the province of West Java, and South Tangerang (heavy tractor industry). This sample of respondents will answer the questionnaire in the questionnaire.) in Banten province. Data collection was conducted through questionnaire sharing with a sample of 250 employees, as well as interviews and focus group discussions (FGD) with a number of stakeholders. Questionnaires before being applied in field studies were examined using Pearson and Cronbach Alpha approaches in order to identify the level of validity and reliability. The analysis of the research was conducted using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) approach with the help of the Lisrel 8.70 program. The results show that organizational culture factors, transformational leadership, and job sharing have a positive impact on employee talent management, and talent management itself has an impact on job satisfaction, job performance, and commitment sustainability. As institutions operate in a competitive market, there are always unexpected changes and difficulties that complicate academic and administrative positions and achieve key organizational goals and objectives. This paper aimed to assess the link of sustainable talent management practices on employee job satisfaction in the higher education sector located in North Lebanon and to reinforce this relationship by taking into account the mediating effect of the organizational culture. A structured questionnaire has been distributed to study a research sample of 200 randomly selected workers from ten public and private Lebanese institutions. Structural equation modeling was used to assess the presented hypotheses. The findings indicated a strong and significant positive relationship between the sustainable talent management practices and employee’s job satisfaction, whereas organizational culture had a mediation effect on the relationships between independent variables, with a statistically significant positive impact, and a statistically significant negative indirect effect relationship between knowledge sharing and employee’s job satisfaction. The study engages a fit model to clarify the relationship between sustainable talent management practices and employee’s job satisfaction. Hence, the study encourages organizations to take advantage of sustainable talent management practices within their institutions to further develop their competitive achievement along with the satisfaction of their employees.
