This study explores to what extent principals perceive instructional program coherence (IPC) and vertical collaboration occur in high schools and their mid-level feeder schools. It also measures IPC and its five components' association with different measures of student achievement. The study took place in the state of Missouri, and 312 principals of high schools with separate feeder middle schools were invited to participate. Electronic and paper surveys as well as public data were collected and analyzed using descriptive statistics, bivariate correlations, and linear regression. The findings show that principals perceive their school's IPC to be fairly strong, but their vertical collaboration needs improvement. The findings also indicate that only particular IPC components such as curriculum, instruction positively influenced graduation rates, academic climate positively influenced the EOC Algebra 1 scores, and vertical collaboration positively associated with higher average freshman GPA's. A major limitation to this study was the low response rate.

Abstract Objectives Evaluating Jordanian pharmacists’ roles in psychiatry from psychiatrists perspective. Methods An electronic survey was sent to 100 psychiatrists registered in the Jordanian Psychiatrists Association. Statistical analysis included descriptive statistics and multivariate logistic regression. Key findings A total of 80 psychiatrists completed the survey (response rate 80%). Most psychiatrists thought that pharmacists are unable to give individuals with mental illness enough time to discuss their medications (62/80, 77.6%) and to monitor psychotropic medications (PM) efficacy (50/80, 62.6%). Around half of respondents thought that, in the future, pharmacists would not be able to suggest PM for patients (42/80, 52.6%), nor changes in PM dosages (37/80, 46.3%). Most psychiatrists emphasized the importance of psychiatric courses to improve pharmacists’ role. Conclusion Although psychiatrists were generally not satisfied with the current role of pharmacists, they had positive expectations about pharmacists’ competency to do certain activities and to assist them in designing drug therapy plans.

We conducted a self-administered questionnaire to investigate ice-cream headache in school adolescents aged 13-15 in Taiwan. The target population was 8789 students in 6 public junior high schools. A total of 8359 students completed the questionnaire (response rate 95.1%). The prevalence of ice-cream headache was 40.6%. It was significantly higher in boys than in girls, and increased with grade. Students with migraine had a higher frequency of ice-cream headache compared with the students without migraine (55.2% vs. 39.6%, P < 0.0001). The prevalence of ice-cream headache increased among students with more migrainous features. Approximately one third of students decreased their intake of ice cream, or abstained completely, especially the younger students. Our study suggests icecream headache is very common in Taiwanese adolescents, and it is more common in students who experienced migraine.

Using both quantitative and qualitative data collected in a migrant-sending county from 2012 to 2013, this article examines the mechanisms through which parental migration could shape adolescents’ transition to high school in rural China. Though parental migration improves children’s educational outcomes via social remittance of education value, it also leads to a decline in children’s educational achievements by increasing the odds of parental divorce. The likelihood of divorce rises with the migration of mother or both parents, and this significantly increases the risks of discontinuing schooling and transitioning to vocational high schools, relative to attending academic high schools. In contrast to the conventional explanations of economic resources and psychological health, this article emphasizes the significant role of marital instability in the link between parental migration and children’s educational outcomes.

This article explores the purpose for which GAS, as a data analytics tool, is utilised by internal audit functions in Australia. A quantitative research method was applied, and the data was analysed using descriptive statistics. The total number of online questionnaires returned was 50 (i.e., a response rate of 15.53%) from the total research population of 322 chief audit executives of internal audit functions of organisations that are registered members with the IIA-Australia. The purpose of descriptive statistics is to describe what the data looks like and to compare variables numerically; therefore, no inferences or extrapolation of the data results were made. The results of the study can be used as a benchmark that may enable CAEs to identify whether they are staying abreast of current best practice in the area of technology-based tools and techniques for tests of controls.

Background Over the past several decades, a significant number of states have either adopted or increased high school exit examination requirements. Although these policies are intended to generate improvement in schools, little is known about how high schools are responding to exit testing pressures. Purpose This study examined how five low-performing high-poverty high schools responded to the pressures of Texas’ exit testing policy. The goal of this study was to understand how schools responded to the pressures of Texas’ exit testing system (in terms of curriculum, instruction, and supports for low-achieving students) and how educators reconciled those pressures with other accountability pressures that they faced. Research Design This study employed qualitative case study design. Five low-performing high schools were sampled within the state of Texas, each of which served large concentrations of at-risk students. A total of 105 interviews were conducted across the five case study sites over the course of 2 years (2008–2009). Conclusions This study found that the Texas exit testing policy created a misalignment between educator and student-level accountability, which had particularly negative consequences for struggling students. The findings of this study suggest a need for policy makers to reconsider the assumptions on which exit tests are based and to more closely consider the goal of exit testing systems in the context of, and in relation to, the larger systems of accountability in which they are embedded. This paper presents findings from a quantitative, survey research study that investigated the prevalence of mathematics anxiety (MA) in two Grade 7 cohorts and how students’ MA compared by gender. The research sample consisted of 467 Grade 7 students (276 females and 186 males) from two high schools in Jamaica. The data were collected using the Modified Abbreviated Math Anxiety Scale (mAMAS) and analyzed using descriptive statistics and a Mann-Whitney U test. The results showed that students experienced a range of MA (Low, Slight, Moderate, and High). Most students experienced Slight MA and 7.5% of the students reported High MA. Another key finding was that the MA distributions for males and females were not statistically significant. Considering the relatively high percentage of students who reported high MA, additional research involving more schools relating to prevalence of MA is warranted.

This article offers an alternative “Circle of Courage” paradigm of education, derived from Native American culture, for creating inclusive high schools that welcome, value, support, and facilitate the learning of adolescents with differing abilities. From this perspective, we examine (a) ways to reorganize the structure of secondary schools; (b) emerging best practices for improving curriculum, instruction, assessment, and student social life on campus; and (c) a process and set of communication tools to ensure needed supports for individual students. We conclude by discussing the application of the Circle of Courage paradigm of education.

A hotel’s service delivery system is unique because it produces products as well as services. Priorresearch in this area is still scarce especially in the context of the Malaysian service industry. Thispaper investigates the extent of service delivery system practices in Malaysia’s hotels. In doing so, aquestionnaire was sent to all 474 star-rated hotels in Malaysia. A response rate of 19% was received.By using factor analysis and descriptive statistics, the results indicated that the extent of hotel servicedelivery system could be measured by the following seven dimensions – new products/services, customerparticipation, hotel operations layout, push/pull orientation, level of standardisation, use of InformationTechnology (IT), and human resource specialisation. Furthermore, on each dimension, managers ofhotels perceived that their hotels had high introduction of products/services, high customer participationfor service adaptation, mixed operations layout, pull orientation, high standardisation of processes, high use of IT for cost reduction, and low human resource specialisation.
