This essay reveals some yet unexplored pages in the history of Russian-Slovenian relations. Based on materials in the Russian and Slovenian archives, the main features of the trips of Russian peasants, who were trainees of the Russian grain company, to practice in Slovenian lands are reconstructed. These visits were carried out with the aim of studying progressive methods of agriculture, which they would then be able to effectively apply at home. The organizer from the Slovenian side was the liberal politician and long-term župan (lord mayor) of Ljubljana, Ivan Hribar. Parties of Russian interns were sent to Slovenian lands in 1909 and 1912 and many of the trainees stayed abroad for one or two years. The main focus of this study is the analysis of the feedback of Russian peasants about their work and study in a foreign country and their impressions of the Slovenes. Reviews by the Russian peasants who were dispatched in 1909 were more favourable than those sent on the 1912 trip, which was for various reasons less successful. In general, the trainees who remained in the Slovenian lands for a long time acquired a lot of new knowledge and skills, which could then be successfully applied in Russia. Slovenes as a people, their culture, and their economic organization made a good impression on the Russian peasants. In addition, it was the peasants' first encounter with another world, and being close to the Slovenian people in language, culture, and traditions contributed to the expansion of their common horizons.

Career planning is something that concerns the future in the long term. It must be planned in advance; to plan where someone wants to go and what he wants to achieve. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of symbolic modeling techniques in the development of student career planning; to choose further studies that suit their interests and talents. The type of the research is qualitative research with observation, interview, and documentation methods. The research subjects were 5 students. This research was carried out based on the phenomenon at SMP Negeri 6 Palangka Raya, where there were students who were still confused about choosing further studies according to their interests and talents. The results showed that after being given symbolic modeling with  videos, students experienced changes such as: (1) Students were able to understand their strengths and weaknesses in certain fields; (2) Students begin to be able to plan careers after graduating from school; (3) Students were able to prepare options for the next level of study. From these data the researchers concluded that symbolic modeling was effective in helping students at SMP Negeri 6 Palangka Raya in planning their careers.

The theoretical foundations of business career planning for manager are discussed in this paper. Emphasis is placed on the development of competitiveness and career growth in the labor market under current conditions, provoked by pandemic. The existing types of career growth are described and the main literature covering the issues of planning and development of individual career growth and the concept of «career» are analyzed. The author’s interpretation of the concept of career is proposed. It is established that for rapid adaptation to the changing conditions of the competitive environment, the state of intellectual capital of any organization, the carrier of which is its staff, are of great importance. It is determined that the so-called high-potential employees are the first among the all promising for long-term prospects. The main tasks of the company management concerning the development of such employees, in order to obtain the greatest return from them in the future are listed in this paper. The described proposals can be used in practice of any company aiming to occupy rightful place in modern economy. It is noted that not only the professional qualification level of manager, his ability to use existing knowledge in practice, but also his ability to learn, to generate new progressive ideas increasingly affect not only the manager career but also the company competitiveness the as a whole. In the course of scientific research it was established that the personality development is influenced by four factors – heredity, environment, upbringing and activity. Certainly, heredity affects human development, but each individual complements the inherent qualities of nature, while realizing its potential through self-development and self-improvement. According to the interpretations of philosophical dictionaries, development is irreversible, natural, purposeful, qualitative change of material and ideal objects. Based on the in-depth analysis of scientific literature, we concluded that manager’s career is manager’s desire to develop, learn and be ready to solve the most important problems, to advance in professional activities to obtain higher position.

AbstractAlthough the average tenure of CIOs has increased over the last years, the majority of CIOs have been in their positions for only three years or less. Nevertheless, some CIOs have been successful in their position for a long time. In this study, we use tenure as a proxy for success as a CIO. The goal of this paper is to examine factors that are critical to the success of long-term CIOs. For this purpose, we created and analyzed resumes of 384 CIOs. Out of these 384, we conducted 19 interviews with CIOs from top-tier companies and collected and analyzed both qualitative and quantitative data. In the process, we were able to identify nine factors that are critical for the success (CSF) of CIOs. These factors fall into three categories. Category “Personality” includes “Accepting and embracing change” (CSF #1), “Being perseverant to pursue long-term goals” (CSF #2), “Anticipating the future through visionary thinking” (CSF #3), and “Being empathetic to deal with uncertainty felt by co-workers” (CSF #4). The “Role Fulfilment” category includes “Cross-functional involvement and integration of the IT organization” (CSF #5), “Positioning and restructuring of the IT organization” (CSF #6), and “Well-connected and communicative leadership” (CSF #7). The “Organizational Environment” category consists of “Availability of skilled workforce” (CSF #8) and “Reporting line to the CEO” (CSF #9). CSFs 1, 2, and 3 were perceived as most important by the participating CIOs. The results may be of particular interest both to aspiring CIOs and equally their employing organizations, as they reflect what long-term CIOs value during their time in office.

Short-term climatic events produce some of the most dramatic ecosystem responses. Sometimes the responses may last for a long time into the future. Three themes will be emphasized in this synthesis. The first is that shortterm climatic events have both short- and long-term responses in the ecosystem. Second, the timing of short-term events is important in partially determining the kind and degree of ecosystem response that might occur. A third theme is the importance of putting short-term variability into a long-term context. The chapters about hurricanes and droughts in this section demonstrate that shortterm climatic events may have short- and long-term responses in the ecosystem. Both the short- and long-term responses are important. The short-term responses have noteworthy economic influences in the agricultural ecosystem. One could argue that the ecosystems containing species with short life spans such as grasslands are able to respond and recover from a short-term climatic disturbance more quickly than those ecosystems with longer lived species such as trees. Corn responds quickly to variability in precipitation during important parts of the growing season. Gage believes the long-term effects of a short-term drought on annual rotational agronomic systems are generally minimal. Other LTER studies have documented strong relationships between annual precipitation and grassland aboveground net primary productivity (Knapp et al. 1998). Conversely, the Coweeta study brings to our attention the insidious, long-term effects of drought that quietly kills trees and leaves their dead necromass on the landscape for decades into the future. However, each ecosystem is responding at its own characteristic timescale. Boose notes that the mixed hardwood forests of central New England and the Tabonuco forests of Puerto Rico both exhibit remarkable resiliency to wind damage. In both cases, despite major structural reorganization after a hurricane, there was rapid regeneration of canopy cover through releafing, sprouting, or recruitment, which helped to reduce impacts on soil moisture, temperature, and nutrient cycling processes. Nevertheless, some signs of the hurricane impact are present for decades, although less so in Puerto Rico where decomposition and regeneration rates are much faster than in New England.

Abstract In the case of economic and social wealth, it is strategically essential to provide reliable energy sources which are available in long-term. Setting an energy network which suits the sustainable criteria might take a long time. Therefore, it is important to make decisions on the energy sector in advance. The Hungarian National Energy strategy elaborated on certain scenarios towards 2030, which describe the possible electricity generation opportunities up to 2020 and 2030. For 2020, there is already an accurate recommendation, but in case of the 2030 targets, there are several ways for innovation. Out of all, the realization of the “Nuclear-Carbon-Green” scenario seems most likely to be implemented. It implies the obvious involvement of nuclear energy potential development in the future strategies. Considering this trend, the present study divides the mentioned strategy into “Nuclear-Carbon” and “Nuclear-Green” scenarios to compare their long-term efficiency by economic means.

Abstract A historically responsible agent is willing to be somehow in practical solidarity with all other actors with whom action is shared over time. The responsible idea of a most-inclusive history encompasses future occurrence together with all that has happened already. Despite our lack of control over future developments, we assess possible future ages as bright (if action opportunities are generally greater) or dark (if lesser) and position ourselves as contributors to multigenerational endeavors (such as Burke’s “all science” and “all art”) that we hope will be long-term successes in themselves and part of a larger historical optimality. Informed by the evolutionary sciences, a plausible modern envisioning of the future must include evolutionary innovations and surprises on a very long time scale. The historically responsible agent will therefore take seriously efforts like Olaf Stapledon’s Last and First Men to imagine the new powers and goals of our distantly posthuman future sharers in history.
