The rapidly developing urbanization since the last decade of the 20th century leads to the strong groundwater extraction, resulting in the subsidence phenomena in the Hanoi, Vietnam. Recent advances in the multi-temporal spaceborne SAR interferometry, especially with Persistent Scatters Interferometry (PSI) approach, is the robust remote sensing technique for measuring ground subsidence in large scale with millimetric accuracy. This work has presented an advanced PSI analysis, to provide unprecedented spatial extent and continuous temporal coverage of the subsidence in Hanoi City. The correlation between the reference leveling velocity and the estimated PSI result is R2 = 0.86, and the root mean square error is 4.0 (mm/year), confirming their good agreement. The study shows that subsidence is most severe in the Haihung silt loam areas in the south of the city. The groundwater extraction resulting from urbanization and urban growth is mainly responsible for the subsidence.

Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC), the most populous city and the economic center of Viet Nam, has faced ground subsidence in recent decades. This work aims at providing an unprecedented spatial extent coverage of the subsidence in HCMC in both horizontal and vertical components using Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) time series. For this purpose, an advanced InSAR technique PSDS (Permanent Scatterers and Distributed Scatterers) was applied to two big European Space Agency (ESA) Sentinel-1 datasets composed of 96 ascending and 202 descending images, acquired from 2014 to 2020 over HCMC area. A time series of 33 Cosmos SkyMED images was also used for comparison purpose. The combination of ascending and descending satellite passes allows the decomposition of the light of sight velocities into horizontal East-west and vertical components. By taking into account the presence of the horizontal East-west movement, our finding indicates that the precision of the decomposed vertical velocity can be improved up to 3 mm/year for Sentinel-1 data. The obtained results revealed that subsidence is most severe in areas along the Sai Gon river in the northwest-southeast axis and the southwest of the city with the maximum value up to 80 mm/year, consistent with findings in the literature. The magnitude of horizontal East-West velocities is relatively small and a large-scale westward motion can be observed in the northwest of the city at a rate of 2-5 mm/year. Together, these results reinforced the remarkable suitability of ESA's Sentinel-1 SAR for subsidence applications even for non-Europe countries such as Vietnam and Southeast Asia.

Abstract. Ground subsidence has become a serious problem along with the rapid urban expansions. Compared with traditional point-based ground survey techniques (GPS, levelling measurement and in-situ sensors), SAR Interferometry are quite appreciated for large-scale subsidence monitoring with long term and high accuracy. In this study, we focused on large-scale subsidence geohazard monitoring of central Lishui (China) and extracted subsidence velocity map of Liandu District. 57 Sentinle-1 SAR images from April 2019 to September 2020 are analysed with SBAS-InSAR technique. The overall subsidence of Liandu is significantly correlated with the distributions of construction engineering sites with displacement velocity of approximately 30–60 mm/yr. Various types of urban ground subsidence could be identified, including the overall settlement of large construction site, the slope deformation of construction excavation, significant settlement of refuse landfill and mountain crossing tunnel, and small deformation of highvoltage towers in mountainous areas. Our results indicated that the rapid urban developments are the dominant impact factors of subsidence in Lishui, China.

As an important exporter of coal resources in China, Yulin has made great contribution to the repaid development of the national economy. But, the geological disaster item caused by large-scale exploitation of coal resources is becoming more and more serious. On the basis of county geological disaster investigation data in Yulin, the research analyzes and summarizes the type, scope, damage degree of the geological disaster in the whole city, especially coal area qualitatively and quantitatively. The article makes clear the spatial distribution of geological disasters in Yulin and it hope that the work can provide scientific guidance to geological disaster prevention in the future. By the research, we get several results as follow: first, There are 905 geological disasters points in Yulin and the mainly the types of all are Collapse, Landslide, Debris Flow, Unstable Slopes, and Ground Subsidence; Second, Collapse and Landslide are the major geological disasters type, and Ground Subsidence is the most serious hazard type in Yulin although its number is small. Third, according to the result above, the city has been divided into different geological disaster-prone areas with MAPGIS, and there are 11 high geological disaster-prone areas, 12 middle, 8 low and 3 undeveloped areas.

Постановка задачи. В настоящее время формирование современной комфортной городской среды приобретает особое социально-экономическое значение и выдвигается в число приоритетных государственных масштабных программ. В связи с этим необходимо разработать концепцию благоустройства ключевого общественного пространства, а именно: определить основные и сопутствующие функции данной территории, создать эскизное предложение проекта благоустройства с учетом всех необходимых норм и стандартов, внедрить современные технологии. Результаты. Выполнен эскизный дизайн-проект «Аллеи архитекторов» по ул. Орджоникидзе г. Воронеж, включающий в себя основные элементы по зонированию территории, проектированию акцентных объектов и внедрению инновационных технологий «умного города», позволяющих повысить уровень комфорта горожан. Выводы. Благоустройство населенных мест приобретает особое значение в условиях дискомфорта среды. С выполнением комплекса мероприятий, направленных на благоустройство, и с внедрением современных технологий значительно улучшается экологическое состояние, внешний облик города. Оздоровление и модернизация среды, которая окружает человека в городе, благотворно влияет на психофизическое состояние, что особенно важно в период интенсивного роста городов. Statement of the problem. Currently the formation of the modern comfortable urban environment is gaining a special social and economic value and moving forward in the priorities of state large-scale programs. The purpose of development of the concept of improvement of public space is definition of the main and accompanying functions of this territory, design of the outline offer of the project of improvement considering all necessary norms and standards and implementation of modern technologies. Results. The conceptual project of “Alley of Architects” includes the basic elements of territory zoning, design of accent objects and implementation of technologies of a “smart-city”. These elements allow one to increase the level of comfort of inhabitants. Conclusions. Improvement of the inhabited places is of particular importance in the conditions of discomfort of the environment. Carrying out a complex of the actions directed to gardening and improvement, introducing modern technologies, the ecological condition, the physical appearance of the city considerably improves. Improvement and modernization of the environment which surrounds the person in the city influences a psychophysical state well that especially important during intensive growth of the cities.

Since the late 20th century major, European cities have exhibited large projects driven by neoliberal urban planning policies whose aim is to enhance their position on the global market. By locating these projects in central city areas, they also heighten and reinforce their privileged situation within the city as a whole, thus contributing to deepening the centre–periphery rift. The starting point for this study is the significance and scope of large projects in metropolitan cities’ urban planning agendas since the final decade of the 20th century. The aim of this article is to demonstrate the correlation between the various opposing conservative and progressive urban policies, and the projects put forward, for the city of Madrid. A study of documentary sources and the strategies deployed by public and private agents are interpreted in the light of a process during which the city has had a succession of alternating governments defending opposing urban development models. This analysis allows us to conclude that the predominant large-scale projects proposed under conservative policies have contributed to deepening the centre–periphery rift appreciated in the city.

Providing citizens with the ability to move around in an accessible way is a requirement for all cities today. However, modeling city infrastructures so that accessible routes can be computed is a challenge because it involves collecting information from multiple, large-scale and heterogeneous data sources. In this paper, we propose and validate the architecture of an information system that creates an accessibility data model for cities by ingesting data from different types of sources and provides an application that can be used by people with different abilities to compute accessible routes. The article describes the processes that allow building a network of pedestrian infrastructures from the OpenStreetMap information (i.e., sidewalks and pedestrian crossings), improving the network with information extracted obtained from mobile-sensed LiDAR data (i.e., ramps, steps, and pedestrian crossings), detecting obstacles using volunteered information collected from the hardware sensors of the mobile devices of the citizens (i.e., ramps and steps), and detecting accessibility problems with software sensors in social networks (i.e., Twitter). The information system is validated through its application in a case study in the city of Vigo (Spain).

In recent years, many cities in the Chinese loess plateau (especially in Shanxi province) have encountered ground subsidence problems due to the construction of underground projects and the exploitation of underground resources. With the completion of the world’s largest geotechnical project, called “mountain excavation and city construction,” in a collapsible loess area, the Yan’an city also appeared to have uneven ground subsidence. To obtain the spatial distribution characteristics and the time-series evolution trend of the subsidence, we selected Yan’an New District (YAND) as the specific study area and presented an improved time-series InSAR (TS-InSAR) method for experimental research. Based on 89 Sentinel-1A images collected between December 2017 to December 2020, we conducted comprehensive research and analysis on the spatial and temporal evolution of surface subsidence in YAND. The monitoring results showed that the YAND is relatively stable in general, with deformation rates mainly in the range of −10 to 10 mm/yr. However, three significant subsidence funnels existed in the fill area, with a maximum subsidence rate of 100 mm/yr. From 2017 to 2020, the subsidence funnels enlarged, and their subsidence rates accelerated. Further analysis proved that the main factors induced the severe ground subsidence in the study area, including the compressibility and collapsibility of loess, rapid urban construction, geological environment change, traffic circulation load, and dynamic change of groundwater. The experimental results indicated that the improved TS-InSAR method is adaptive to monitoring uneven subsidence of deep loess area. Moreover, related data and information would provide reference to the large-scale ground deformation monitoring and in similar loess areas.

<b><i>Introduction:</i></b> The ALBI score is acknowledged as the gold standard for the assessment of liver function in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Unlike the Child-Pugh score, the ALBI score uses only objective parameters, albumin (Alb) and total bilirubin (T.Bil), enabling a better evaluation. However, the complex calculation of the ALBI score limits its applicability. Therefore, we developed a simplified ALBI score, based on data from a large-scale HCC database.We used the data of 5,249 naïve HCC cases registered in eight collaborating hospitals. <b><i>Methods:</i></b> We developed a new score, the EZ (Easy)-ALBI score, based on regression coefficients of Alb and T.Bil for survival risk in a multivariate Cox proportional hazard model. We also developed the EZ-ALBI grade and EZ-ALBI-T grade as alternative options for the ALBI grade and ALBI-T grade and evaluated their stratifying ability. <b><i>Results:</i></b> The equation used to calculate the EZ-ALBI score was simple {[T.Bil (mg/dL)] – [9 × Alb (g/dL)]}; this value highly correlated with the ALBI score (correlation coefficient, 0.981; <i>p</i> &#x3c; 0.0001). The correlation was preserved across different Barcelona clinic liver cancer grade scores (regression coefficient, 0.93–0.98) and across different hospitals (regression coefficient, 0.98–0.99), indicating good generalizability. Although a good agreement was observed between ALBI and EZ-ALBI, discrepancies were observed in patients with poor liver function (T.Bil, ≥3 mg/dL; regression coefficient, 0.877). The stratifying ability of EZ-ALBI grade and EZ-ALBI-T grade were good and their Akaike’s information criterion values (35,897 and 34,812, respectively) were comparable with those of ALBI grade and ALBI-T grade (35,914 and 34,816, respectively). <b><i>Conclusions:</i></b> The EZ-ALBI score, EZ-ALBI grade, and EZ-ALBI-T grade are useful, simple scores, which might replace the conventional ALBI score in the future.

Abstract Synthetic aperture radar- (SAR-)derived ice-motion vectors and SAR interferometry were used to study the sea-ice conditions in the region between the coast and 75° N (~ 560 km) in the East Siberian Sea in the vicinity of the Kolyma River. ERS-1 SAR data were acquired between 24 December 1993 and 30 March 1994 during the 3 day repeat Ice Phase of the satellite. The time series of the ice-motion vector fields revealed rapid (3 day) changes in the direction and displacement of the pack ice. Longer-term (≥ 1 month) trends also emerged which were related to changes in large-scale atmospheric circulation. On the basis of this time series, three sea-ice zones were identified: the near-shore, stationary-ice zone; a transitional-ice zone;and the pack-ice zone. Three 3 day interval and one 9 day interval interferometric sets (amplitude, correlation and phase diagrams) were generated for the end of December, the begining of February and mid-March. They revealed that the stationary-ice zone adjacent to the coast is in constant motion, primarily by lateral displacement, bending, tilting and rotation induced by atmospheric/oceanic forcing. The interferogram patterns change through time as the sea ice becomes thicker and a network of cracks becomes established in the ice cover. It was found that the major features in the interferograms were spatially correlated with sea-ice deformation features (cracks and ridges) and major discontinuities in ice thickness.
