Background: During the Coronavirus Disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, palliative care units and nursing homes became risky in terms of infection transmission. The measures that are taken in the general population have also been strictly applied for caregivers. However, to achieve success, the personal compliance of the caregivers is as important as setting the rules. Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the demographic characteristics, knowledge levels, and attitudes towards the measures taken for pandemics of the caregivers who were caring for their patients in the palliative care unit. It was also attempted to evaluate the relationship between these parameters and their quality of life (QOL). Methods: The level of knowledge and the level of agreement with the measures with questions prepared by three physicians working in the palliative care unit were assessed in this study. The QOL was also evaluated using the 3-level version of EQ-5D (EQ-5D-3L). Results: Education, employment, smoking, as well as parental and marital status, were found to be related to a high level of knowledge. It has been shown that the level of knowledge is higher in female caregivers and those who were caregiving for less than three years. The caregivers of Alzheimer's disease patients were also revealed to know more about the COVID-19 pandemic. Single, male, employed, smoking, and experienced less than three years caregivers were seemed to have a higher level of agreement with the measures. In addition, it was concluded that the QOL was positively correlated with the level of knowledge and negatively correlated with the compliance of the measures. Conclusion: It is essential to know the characteristics and beliefs of the caregivers in pandemic management in palliative care; accordingly, more studies should be conducted on this issue.

Abstract Family caregivers of older people living with dementia are relatives, friends, or neighbors who provide assistance related to this condition, but who are unpaid for the services they provide. Although caregiving could be personally rewarding, many caregivers report a high level of strain. Compared to caregivers of older adults who do not have dementia, family caregivers of older people living with dementia report lower quality-of-life (QoL). In a published systematic review examining the relationship between family caregiver QoL and the quality of care provided, only one study was found to be somewhat relevant. The study suggested that the primary reason for an absence of research into the link between family caregiver QoL and quality of care was the absence of a questionnaire for measuring quality of care in dementia. Therefore, any attempt to investigate the impact of caregiver QoL on the care provided to older people with dementia must first address the lack of an instrument to measure quality of care. To address this issue, we interviewed approximately 20 family caregivers in order to elicit feedback on measurements and interpretation of the quality of care provided by family caregivers of older people living with dementia. Content analysis of the interview transcripts revealed that the quality of relationships with family, caregiver availability to provide or supervise care, and availability of paid or volunteer help are important for the quality of care provided. These results have important implications, particularly for the development of an instrument to measure quality of care in dementia.

The totalpopulation were 139 students, and the sample were 103 students. The samplingtechnique was simple random sampling.This research method represent analytic research with design research of corelasional toknow relationship between knowledge level about fluid body requirement with patternconsume drinking water of student.The results was the high level of knowledge about the fluid body requirment were 74(72%), moderate level of knowledge about the fluid body requirment were 29 (28%), whilethe behavior of consuming appropiate water were 69 (67%), and the behavior ofconsuming inappropiate water were 34 (33%) with a p-value 0.003 <0.05 significant 95%.There was a significant relationship between the knowledge level about fluid bodyrequirement with pattern consume drinking water at student in Academy of Nursing PantiKosala Surakarta.Keywords: knowlegde level, fluid body requirement, pattern consume drinking water.

ABSTRACTObjective:A high incidence of burnout has been reported in health professionals working in palliative care units. Our present study aims to determine whether there are differences in the secretion of salivary cortisol between palliative care unit health professionals with and without burnout, and to elucidate whether there is a relationship between burnout syndrome and perceived stress and psychopathological status in this population.Method:A total of 69 health professionals who met the inclusion criteria participated in our study, including physicians, nurses, and nursing assistants. Some 58 were women (M = 29.65 years, SD = 8.64) and 11 men (M = 35.67 years, SD = 11.90). The level of daily cortisol was registered in six measurements taken over the course of a workday. Burnout syndrome was evaluated with the Maslach Burnout Inventory–Human Services Survey (MBI–HSS), the level of perceived stress was measured using the Perceived Stress Scale, and psychopathological status was gauged using the SCL–90–R Symptoms Inventory.Results:There were statistically significant differences in secretion of cortisol in professionals with high scores on a single subscale of the MBI–HSS [F(3.5) = 2.48, p < 0.03]. This effect was observed 15–30 minutes after waking up (p < 0.01) and at bedtime (p < 0.06). Moreover, the professionals with burnout showed higher scores on the psychopathology and stress subscales than professionals without it.Significance of results:A higher score in any dimension of the burnout syndrome in palliative care unit health professionals seems to be related to several physiological and psychological parameters. These findings may be relevant for further development of our understanding of the relationship between levels of burnout and cortisol secretion in the health workers in these units.


This chapter discusses skin disorders. Skin disorders affect patients with early and advanced malignant and non-malignant disease. In addition to distressing physical symptoms, the appearance of pressure sores, malignant wounds, and lymphoedema impact on patients’ social functioning, mood, and quality of life. Meticulous and prompt management of symptoms can make a huge difference. There is a growing body of research into drug treatments for pruritus in palliative care, and interventions for managing lymphoedema and wounds more effectively. Key principles in the management of wound care, lymphoedema, and pruritus are examined. Skin wounds are common in advanced malignancy. Pressure ulcers are most frequently seen, affecting an estimated one-third or more of patients in palliative care units. Malignant/fungating wounds occur in approximately 5–10% patients with metastatic cancer and are associated with significant physical and psychological distress. Loco-regional skin involvement (e.g. breast fungation) should be distinguished from generalized skin metastases which imply advanced disease.

Abstract Introduction Recognizing that AT service characteristics, including knowledge and reasoning of providers, play a potential role in the appropriated selection and training, with impact on the psychosocial domains of QoL. In Portugal, AT services are detected to be ineffective concerning evaluation, recommendation, advocacy, training and outcome measuring, what could be a reason for these findings. Objectives To investigate the relationship between AT services characteristics and psychosocial impact of the wheelchairs on users QoL to get insights to new approach models in physiotherapy. Methodology Procedures included answering to self-administered questionnaires at their own. The dependent variable was the psychosocial impact of assistive devices (PIADS) and the independent variables were satisfaction with AT (QUEST) and AT service characteristics. Results Participants were 184 wheelchair users for more than one year with diverse diagnosis; age M = 37.3 years, recruited at physiotherapy/rehabilitation settings in Portugal. Wheelchair users are more satisfied with devices than with AT services. Correlations between psychosocial impact of wheelchair are moderate regarding the satisfaction of device dimension, measured by QUEST. No corrections were found to satisfaction with service dimension Manual wheelchair users scored lower psychosocial impact than motorized wheelchair users and that difference was statistically significant. Conclusion PT should be aware of the newest high technology devices introduced on the market, payment sources and state AT programs as well as destigmatize dependence associated to AT. We got significant insights to AT field and to the development of PT curriculum; PT students need more than the basic level of knowledge and training they achieved at school to feel prepared to provide AT services. After graduation, PTs need continuing education on AT. Strategies are discussed on this report.

Abstract Stabilizing certified nursing assistant (CNA) employment is necessary for maintaining care networks and providing high quality of care for nursing home (NH) residents. This study’s objective was to examine the relationship of high wages and empowerment practices on CNA retention. We used the 2015 Ohio Biennial Survey to construct a facility-level dataset of 547 NHs and estimated multivariable linear regressions. NHs that provided both high wages and high empowerment were associated with a 12.95 percentage-point improvement in the CNA retention rate (SE = 4.53, t-value = 2.86, p = 0.0045). High wages and a high empowerment score did not have significant effects individually (p &gt; .05). Retention rates were similar between NHs that lacked high wages and scored low on the empowerment scale, and NHs that provided one at a high level but not the other. Implications for better retaining CNAs require multiple empowerment practices combined with high hourly wages.

Harmonization of the relationship between society, economy, and nature requires both the development of more environmentally friendly technologies or restrictions on its exploitation, as well as a change in the way of life and work. This is particularly about improving the quality of work to reduce energy consumption and/or pollution. In this context, the issue of the organizational climate that determines job satisfaction and increasing cooperation towards sustainable development is of particular importance. The article presents the results of research on the organizational climate carried out on a selected group of students employed in textile industry enterprises. The analysis of the results allows us to state the high assessment of the climate at work in its individual spheres and a high level of trust in the management of the organization.
