The paper deals with the justification of the need to use an asynchronous traction electric drive on the metro rolling stock. The advantages of using an asynchronous traction electric drive in comparison with a DC commutator motor drive are formulated. The characteristics of modern innovative metro rolling stock with asynchronous traction electric drive of domestic and foreign production are analyzed. Aspects of the choice of a variable frequency asynchronous traction electric drive for innovative rolling stock are formulated and the existing typical algorithm of such choice is given. The main reasons for the irrational choice of traction asynchronous electric drive for the metro rolling stock are considered and the consequences of such a choice are analyzed. It is proposed to improve the methodology for selecting a variable frequency traction asynchronous electric drive for the metro rolling stock in terms of such an important operational factor as the specific cost of electrical energy for traction. The rational parameters of the variable frequency asynchronous traction electric drive according to the proposed procedure for the specified characteristics of the metro rolling stock are specified. The reserves of energy savings for the given conditions due to the introduction of an asynchronous traction electric drive with rational parameters on the innovative rolling stock are determined. It is established that the efficiency factor of the asynchronous traction motor significantly affects the specific electric energy consumption for the metro rolling stock traction and operating costs.

Didik Ariwibowo, in this paper explain that energy audit activities conducted through several phases, namely: the initial audit, detailed audit, analysis of energy savings opportunities, and the proposed energy savings. Total energy consumed consists of electrical energy, fuel, and materials in this case is water. Electrical energy consumption data obtained from payment of electricity accounts for a year while consumption of fuel and water obtained from the payment of material procurement. From the calculation data, IKE hotels accounted for 420.867 kWh/m2.tahun, while the IKE standards for the hotel is 300 kWh/m2.tahun. Thus, IKE hotel included categorized wasteful in energy usage. The largest energy consumption on electric energy consumption. Largest electric energy consumption is on the air conditioning (AC-air conditioning) that is equal to 71.3%, and lighting and electrical equipment at 27.28%, and hot water supply system by 4.44%. Electrical energy consumption in AC looks very big. Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of the statutes, the profile of energy use by air conditioning at the hotel by 48.5%. With these considerations in the AC target for audit detail as the next phase of activity. The results of a detailed audit analysis to find an air conditioning system energy savings opportunities in pumping systems. Recommendations on these savings is the integration of automation on the pumping system and fan coil units (FCU). The principle of energy conservation in the pumping system is by installing variable speed drives (VSD) pump drive motor to adjust speed according to load on the FCU. Load variations FCU provide input on the VSD pumps to match. Adaptation is predicted pump can save electricity consumption up to 65.7%. Keywords: energy audit, IKE, AC

The issue of determining the traction and energy characteristics of electric rolling stock with asynchronous traction drive is considered. It is noted that such rolling stock can work at any point of the traction area, resulting in the need to determine the characteristics of the rolling stock for the entire traction area. The calculation of the characteristics of the traction induction motor, which are the basis for determining the traction and energy characteristics of the electric rolling stock, is considered in detail. A procedure based on the calculation of the replacement circuit of an induction motor is proposed. The calculation of power losses due to higher harmonic voltages and currents is considered. An example of calculation of traction and energy characteristics of an DC electric shunting locomotive with a traction asynchronous electric drive is given.

The aim of this study was to examine the electric energy consumption of milking process on dairy farms and to evaluate the methods to improve the energy efficiency. The electricity consumption of the milking process was measured on three dairy farms in Southern Finland, and it varied between 37–62 Wh kg-1 milk.  The largest energy saving potential was identified in milk cooling and the heating of cleaning water. Even simple methods, such as placing the condenser of the refrigeration system outside, may reduce the energy consumption of milk cooling by 30%. Efficient milk pre-cooling can reduce the energy consumption of the whole milking process by more than 25%. Even larger energy savings are possible with a sophisticated milk cooling – water heating systems. It was concluded that there is a significant potential to reduce the energy consumption and energy costs of the milking process, and thus to improve the profitability and sustainability of the sector at the same time.

One of the assumptions made during the modernization process of diesel shunting locomotives is the replacement of a diesel traction motor with a DC generator with an electric asynchronous traction motor. The article aimed to develop a method of selecting energy-efficient parameters of an asynchronous electric traction motor for diesel shunting locomotives, which will ensure that its operating energy efficiency will be as high as possible. The method was verified on the example of a locomotive series ChME3 (ЧMЭ3, ČME3, ČKD S200). It has been found that using a traction asynchronous electric drive on a ChME3 locomotive, its efficiency increases in comparison with DC electric motors by 3–5% under the long-term operation modes and by 7–10% during locomotive operation with traction at the adhesion limit. Using a new traction gearbox with a higher gear ratio expands the speed range in which the asynchronous traction drive operates with a high-efficiency factor. It is effective to use a traction asynchronous electric drive to modernize ChME3 diesel locomotives in case of their use under the modes requiring the implementation of maximum traction forces at low speeds. A further increase in the efficiency of the traction asynchronous electric drive is possible based on the optimal design of the wheel-motor unit and the asynchronous traction electric drive.

The growing global demand for energy and the costly taxes on electric energy demonstrate the importance of seeking new techniques to improve energy efficiency in industrial facilities. Refrigeration units demand a large amount of electricity due to the high power needs of the components of the system. One strategy to reduce the electric energy consumption in these facilities is pressure condensation control. The objective here was to develop a logical control model where the physical quantities in the thermodynamic process can be monitored and used to determine the optimum point of the condensation pressure and the mass flow rate of the air in the evaporative condenser. The algorithm developed was validated through experiments and was posteriorly implemented in an ammonia industrial system of refrigeration over a period of sixteen months (480 days). The results showed that the operation of the evaporative condenser with a controlled air mass flow rate by logical modeling achieved a reduction of 7.5% in the consumption of electric energy, leading to a significant reduction in the operational cost of the refrigeration plant.

Increased energy consumption can lead to depletion of fossil energy reserves that can pose a threat to energy supply in Indonesia. One way to increase the intensity of energy savings is to make changes in consumer behavior. The development of gender roles, abilities, and attention led most researchers to argue that women are more consistent in attention to environmental change than men. Women are more concerned with environmental quality and participate in environmental activities. Thus, this research tries to determine the influence of psychological factors on the behavior of household electrical energy consumption in term of gender differences. This study used questionnaires distributed using Google Docs to household electrical respondents several in Indonesia. Referring to ABC (Antecedents-Behaviour-Consequences) model of consumer behavior, the total of 808, questionnaires from 526 male respondents and 282 female respondents were successfully collected. The data were processed by the Partial Least Square Equation Modeling Model (SEM-PLS) using Smart-PLS software. The study concluded that,if given the consequences, women have higher influence to the behavior of electrical energy consumption than men. Overall psychological factors have a positive and significant influence on the behavior of electric energy consumption in Indonesia.

In air-conditioning, strategy of decoupling cooling and ventilation tasks has stimulated considerable interest in radiant cooling systems with dedicated outdoor air system (DOAS). In view of this, current paper presents a simulation study to describe energy saving potential of a solar, biogas, and electric heater powered hybrid vapor absorption chiller (VAC) based radiant cooling system with desiccant-coupled DOAS. A medium office building under warm and humid climatic condition is considered. To investigate the system under different operational strategies, energyplus simulations are done. In this study, a novel design involving solar collectors and biogas fired boiler is proposed for VAC and desiccant regeneration. Three systems are compared in terms of total electric energy consumption: conventional vapor compression chiller (VCC) based radiant cooling system with conventional VCC-DOAS, hybrid VAC-based radiant cooling system with conventional VCC-DOAS, and hybrid VAC-based radiant cooling system with desiccant-assisted VCC-DOAS. The hybrid VAC radiant cooling system and desiccant-assisted VCC-DOAS yields in 9.1% lesser energy consumption than that of the VAC radiant cooling system with conventional VCC-DOAS. Results also show that up to 13.2% energy savings can be ensured through triple-hybrid VAC radiant cooling system and desiccant-assisted VCC-DOAS as compared to that of the conventional VCC-based radiant system. The return on investment is observed to be 14.59 yr for the proposed system.

The volume of energy consumption, including electricity, in our country is constantly increasing. In this regard, it becomes necessary to reduce the cost of electrical energy as much as possible. The article discusses the possibility of reducing electrical energy in supply ventilation systems through the use of fans. We present the results of the aerodynamic calculation of two variants of the supply ventilation system of an industrial building. The first option is the traditional scheme with one common central fan. The second option is a scheme using fan coil units on separate branches of the system. As a result of the calculations, it is shown that the installation of fan coil units will significantly reduce the load on the central fan drive.

The objective of this study was analyzing two pressure systems relative to energy consumption. One of the systems operates at a fixed speed and the other with variable speed by using a frequency inverter. It was selected two product models based on the water demand, which was calculated with the average flow rate spent per each type of sanitary appliance. Thus, it was possible to estimate the power consumed in each hour and then, calculate the electric energy consumption. The cost of energy per hour was also found, considering the current energy tariff. The results showed an economical use of the inverter compares to non-use. The average potential energy savings was 44.7%, and it was found R$ 369.11 of reduction in the monthly energy cost. Therefore, it is concluded the use frequency inverter is economically viable in relation to energy consumption and reduce the costs of electric energy.
