Violation of the conditions of animals keeping and the lack of proper level of veterinary and sanitary culture on farms does not allow to achieve a balance between the organism of the cattle and the environment of its stay. The uneven distribution of body weight on the surface of the sole caused by keeping animals on a rough floor promotes the emergence of producing corns, stretching of the tendons and ligaments, slippery flooring leads to the fall of animals and the occurrence of various injuries, in particular, fractures of the limbs, tensile bond, capsule of the joint, excessively hard floor – to excessive erosion of the horn of the sole, etc. In such herds it is difficult to maintain animal health at the proper level and prevent the occurrence of, in particular, aseptic pododermatitis. The article deals with  the results on the dissemination of aseptic pododermatitis in cows for the presence of animals on wooden and reinforced concrete slit floors during the winter and standstill period of containment. It has been established that aseptic pododermatitis in cows on reinforced concrete slit floor is registered in 71.6% of cases, while on wooden – only 28.4%. In the hoof horn of the thoracic and pelvic extremities of the cows, with aseptic pododermatitis, the amount of moisture decreased by 8.2 and 9.3% respectively, the concentration of SH-groups increases by 10.6 and 15.8%, with a possible decrease in the content of calcium, sulfur, cuprum and zinc; decreases the hoof horn density and resistance to abrasion of the epithelium of the hooves of the pelvic limbs by 1.6 and 18.0%, as well as the intensity of the abrasion sole hooves of the thoracic and pelvic limbs is increased by 7.5 and 20.0%, which helps to reduce the growth of the epidermis of the sole. Consequently, changes in certain biochemical and biophysical indices of hoof horns of cows suffering from aseptic pododermatitis, which were held on the reinforced concrete slit, indicate a deterioration in the quality of the epidermal hooves and excessive erosion of the sole, which is one of the causes of the occurrence and development of aseptic pododermatitis in cows.

The objective of the present study was to assess the degree of exposure of laying hens to mycotoxins through naturally contaminated feed and the hygienic quality of feeds. For this purpose, the natural mycoflora and the occurrence of aflatoxins and fumonisins were evaluated in 95 feed samples intended for laying hens collected from January to December 2010 at the Experimental Farm of the State University of Londrina, Northern Paraná State, Brazil. Fusarium was the prevalent genus (99%), followed by Aspergillus (89%). Fusarium spp. were detected at a low contamination level (<103 to <104 colony forming units (cfu)/g) in 54% of the samples. Aspergillus spp. were detected in 73% of the samples at the same contamination range. The total mould and yeast count ranged from 5.0×102 to 8.7×105 cfu/g; in 60% of the samples the values exceeded 1.0×104 cfu/g, the maximum limit established to ensure good hygienic quality of the product. Aflatoxins and fumonisins were detected in 69.7 and 89.5% of the samples, with mean values of 9.61 ng/g and 1.28 µg/g, respectively. The estimated daily intake of fumonisin B1 for laying hens (0.038 mg/kg body weight/day) was below the lowest observed adverse effect level (2 mg/kg body weight/ day). Regarding aflatoxins, most of the positive samples (85.1%) showed aflatoxin levels below the maximum level laid down by the European Commission. Nevertheless, continuous monitoring of mycotoxin levels in laying hen feed is essential to minimize threats to human and animal health. To our knowledge, this is the first report on the degree of exposure of laying hens to mycotoxins through naturally contaminated feed in Brazil.

The paper is devoted to determination of influence of vibration influence parameters at compaction of hard concrete mixtures designed for making reinforced-concrete sleepers. At poor quality compaction of a concrete mixture there is an uneven distribution of physical and mechanical indicators by length and width of products that negatively affects their future operation. The paper presents studies on determination of vibration influence parameters at compaction of concrete mixtures and provides recommendations on improvement of operation of existing technological lines.


This article presents the results of studying the impact of housing and feeding conditions on broiler chickens of Hubbard RedBro cross, as well as the quality of products obtained when using floor and cage content, in a farm. It established that when receiving a mixed feed of own production using feed raw materials grown on a farm without the use of pesticides, a statistically significant decrease in potentially dangerous substances for animal health is recorded. Compared with factory feed, it has reduced the content of pesticides by 14 times, and mercury and arsenic by 24 times, cadmium by five times, and lead by ten times. The results of the study of economic indicators of growing Hubbard RedBro cross broiler chickens, as well as the chemical composition and quality of carcasses, indicated that there was no significant difference between the floor and cell conditions of keeping. Still, the use of a diet based on eco-feeds contributed to a statistically significant decrease in the concentration of toxic metals in the muscles of the poultry of the experimental groups. As a result, it found that the use of the studied compound feed in the diets of broiler chickens increased the indicators of Biosafety and ensured the production of environmentally safe ("organic") poultry meat products.

Abstract: The research aims to compare some qualitative characteristics of purebred Tsigaia lambs and Tsigaia crossed with Blanc du Massif Central lambs. The criteria assessed were: chemical composition of purebred and Tsigaia crossed meat, the live body weight, the slaughtering performance, the weight of different carcass cut. For almost all criteria chosen the crossed individuals registered better results.

We aimed to examine systematically the available evidence on risk factors of low back pain (LBP) in athletes. We performed search without language restriction in PubMed, Ovid, Google Scholar, Scopus, and CINAHL. Longitudinal studies that examined possible risk factors of LBP in athletes were included in this systematic review. Based on methodological quality of studies, a best-evidence synthesis was conducted. Seven longitudinal studies were included, four of which had high methodological quality. Results showed that previous LBP, decreased lumbar flexion, and decreased lumbar extension are positively associated with LBP. There was moderate evidence for hip flexor tightness and high body weight as a risk factor. We found insufficient evidence for association between forward bending, previous injury, and amount of training per week, active years, age, and sex with LBP. In conclusion this study would provide a list of risk factors for LBP in athletes, though it showed a strong evidence for only a few including decrease lumbar flexion or extension, previous LBP, and high body weight. This review indicated a high heterogeneity of study characteristics including assessed risk factors and statistical techniques might limit the quality of evidence.

Abstract The study was conducted to assess the effect of black pepper (BP) supplementation on the growth performance, nutrient digestibility, fecal microbial, fecal gas emission, and meat quality of finishing pigs. A total of 180 crossbred [(Landrace × Yorkshire) × Duroc] finishing pigs with average initial body weight (BW) of 53.72 ± 1.42 kg were used in 10-week trial and allotted to 6 dietary treatments (6 replications pens/treatment with 5 pigs per pen). The dietary treatments were: CON (basal diet), TRT1- CON + 0.025% BP, TRT2- CON + 0.05% BP, TRT3- CON + 0.1% BP, TRT4- CON + 0.2% BP, TRT5- CON + 0.4% BP. A linear increase (P = 0.0380, 0.0061) in body weight gain (BWG) and average daily gain (ADG) were observed respectively, during the overall trial in pigs fed BP supplemented diet compared to control. The dietary supplementation of BP showed a linear increase (P=0.0065) in gain and feed ratio (G: F) at week 10. However, there were no significant results observed on average daily feed intake (ADFI) during the overall experiment. The total tract digestibility of dry matter (DM) was linearly improved (P=0.0531) in BP treatment groups compared to control. In addition, BP diet supplementation had linearly increased fecal Lactobacillus counts (P=0.0482) and decreased E. coli counts (P=0.0306) in pigs at week 10. Furthermore, NH3, methyl mercaptans, and acetic acid was linearly decreased (P=0.0227, 0.0555,0.0541) in pigs fed BP supplementation compare to control. The inclusion of BP supplementation in pigs diet had linearly increased (P=0.0146) the backfat thickness at week 10. Thus, we concluded that BP supplementation had positively enhanced the growth performance, nutrient digestibility, fecal microbial, fecal gas emission, and meat quality of finishing pigs.

Abstract This paper deals with the evaluation of seismic risk for commercial buildings in Memphis, Tennessee. The seismicity of the area is summarized, and commercial buildings are divided into categories with regard to parameters such as number of stories, year of construction, assessed value, total floor area, and structural type. The distributions of these parameters are presented in the figures. During the study, over 15 buildings were examined on site by a team of experts to evaluate their seismic resistances. The quality of the design, materials, and construction was found to be surprisingly good, particularly in those structures built since 1900. Seismic resistance is analytically evaluated for five buildings: a four-story reinforced concrete frame; a four-story steel structure with vertical trusses; a 13-story stell frame; and two multi-story reinforced concrete frames. The loadings from four sources are considered: EI Centro and Taft earthquakes in California (1940 and 1952, respectively) and the forces specified in the 1979 UBC and 1981 BOCA codes. Ratios of load to capacity are calculated. For each building considered, the expected percentage of damage is evaluated for the two earthquakes. The damage prediction is extended to all commercial buildings in Memphis.
