ABSTRACT The verification of Information Technology (IT) controls is a core responsibility of IT auditors. This case places the student in the role of an IT auditor assigned to test the operating effectiveness of a specific IT general control: user access management. In addition to learning about IT controls, the case introduces several Excel functions such as VLOOKUP, MATCH, INDEX, and various text functions. The student documents the results of the IT controls tests by completing a testing matrix and writing a memo. General controls, user access management, and Excel applications are all topics taught in Accounting Information Systems (AIS) and Audit courses. As such, instructors can use this case at the undergraduate or graduate level in an IT Audit, Accounting Information Systems, or Audit class.

Information technology (IT) has become increasingly important to accounting professionals. Education in relevant IT-related topics, however, appears to have lagged workplace demands. Most undergraduate accounting programs require an Accounting Information Systems (AIS) course to fulfill the major program requirements. Because this course is often the only one to address AIS topics, students may tend to view IT as being less important to their career paths. Such attitudes may reduce the quality of course outcomes. A survey of 103 undergraduate AIS students was conducted to assess attitudes along two dimensions: knowledge and skills and interest and enjoyment. Results showed that, for a number of factors, interest and enjoyment was positively associated with knowledge and skills. The level of the two dimensions, however, varied, and students displayed greater interest in traditional accounting than in technology-related courses. Most importantly, attitude towards IT affected success.

The study aimed to measure the relationship between the investment decision-making in the industrial companies listed in the Saudi Stock Market with the (IVs) characteristics of the accounting information systems (appropriateness and reliability, comparability and understanding), and renovation and maintenance of the hardware and software. The problem in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is that the government depends on oil revenues more than on attracting investments, therefore, the importance of this study is constituted by the provision of critical recommendations to policy makers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in order to overcome this issue and improve the investments. In order to achieve the objectives of this study, questionnaires were administered to 194 people representing the study population; a multiple regression (standard regression) was also used to test the study hypotheses. In general, all variables were positively significantly related with the investment decision-making.The findings of this study also showed that the independent variables explained more than 65% of the variance in investment decision-making. The Saudi government and policy makers should issue new regulations to increase the interest in accounting information systems in order to attract the investment. In relation to the practical and theoretical contribution, this study used new variables in the new model, such as renovation and maintenance of the hardware and software. Furthermore, practical contribution will help policy makers and the Saudi government to advance in this area and implement new policies for investors in order to protect the economy and the society stability due to the war in Yemen and Syria.

Kata kunci: Teknologi Maklumat, sistem maklumat, sistem perakaunan pengurusan, sistem maklumat perakaunan, industri kecil dan sederhana This paper reports the results of a study which offers an explanation for the relationship between Information Technology (IT) sophistication and performance of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), by incorporating into the model of the capability of management accounting systems to generate management accounting information (MAS capacity). To assess the relationship, data were collected from 310 (25% response rate) SMEs by way of questionnaire surveys. The results indicate that IT sophistication is a determinant of MAS capacity, which, in turn, is a determinant of firm performance. In other words, MAS capacity plays a mediating role in the relationship between IT sophistication and firm performance. An interpretation of the results is that those firms that employed sophisticated IT can generate sufficient management accounting information and thereby improve performance.
